The thread is not about the XT2. The preliminary (?) specs of the x-h1 say clearly 15min of 4K, 30 min with the battery grip. Meaning, if you need 1h battery time, you will fail with just 4 batteries.

How are you going to charge 6 batteries, while using another 6 for the next 1h of continuous shoot ? Are they boing to be full when that hour has passed ? You will need 18 of them, instead of 3-4 for the Panasonic. Of course, if that is not your scenario, no problem. How this is a straw man's argument leaves me at a complete loss of words. I was making a point: if you need battery life, life will get expensive and complicat at the same time. Useless to some. Cleaner at high ISO, I don't know, some article about the sensor tech would indicate there is a problem ?

So you need the battery grip and 5 extra batteries to match the GH5 4K recording time with the one standard battery ? That is a price premium of around 600 euro ...

Do those sync jobs really sync properly ? To within half a frame ? Even when you have pieces with the form ABACACADA ? The music can be scary identical ... I have had mixed succes with the Premiere Pro function, it is hit&miss, most of the time much quicker by hand. My recorder is a compact home-built Win7-Win10 PC, with a SSL Soundscape Mixpander MX (dual MADI) DSP card, either to the Soundscape soft or Pyramix V9. For cheaper live gigs I use the Zoom F8. Mics are mainly Sennheiser MKH30-40-800twins and Royer SF1/12 ribbon mics. And then some highend mic preamps/AD converters (24ch)

That same card is 99 euro here in Belgium (from 129 last week) but is way too slow for 4K prores. You still need a 128GB 300MB/s card (279 euro !) for that, giving only 41 minutes of prores LT (29 min Prores 422). How much is that for a 2h classical concert ? I understand why prices of the video assist 4K go down all the time... It would be an interesting option to break the 30min GX80 limit, but I would need to record in prores proxy !

The old 4/3 panaleicalenses or on the compatibility list of the new camera’s, so I guess they managed to get them to work somehow. Focus takes about 3 seconds with the 14-50, but is precise. With the (newer) 14-150, focus is rather quick, half a second at the most. Or it misses at the tele end, the focussing is near infinity

Since my 14-50 is a Panaleica, I guess I’ll go for the Leica. I’m flooded with an extra job this week, so money is no issue The Lumix has a full stop less light than my 14-50, I have the 4/3 panaleica 14-150 for that ! I have the Lumix L1, and found the 14-150 secondhand a few years ago...

Yes of course. My old 14-50 does not do tap to focus while recording. The new ones all do. I seem to keep forgetting as I have never used it that way. So, the next question: which one does it better, the panaleica or the cheaper pana ? Currently it is only a 200 euro price difference.

Ok, thanks for the feedback. I am using this mainly for concert or classical music recording (live or entire 5-20 min takes). I do not want to stop recording to refocus, as that results in too many clips to resync with my audio recording (which is what I do professionally, the audio part). That is the biggest problem with my old 14-50 in fly-by-wire MF. After a zoom I need time to refocus (too much time). It does not function in C-AF on m43, only single AF ! I am looking for a lens with slightly more reach (14mm is just not wide enough, often enough), as good light and optical performance (the 14-50mm still can be bought new for 1400...) and that will not loose focus while zooming. If I cannot use the zoom part of the clip, so be it, but after a zoom it would be nice to have critical focus within 1s. I could also buy a Black Magic 4K video assist, and keep using the 14-50m. I just thought the BM 4K seems like a dead path (SD cards remaining quite expensive, and the thing eats them), while the 12-60 seems like a lens I will use the next 5 years. Also do not forget the deal I can have on it for the moment. @Webrunner: I know there is "parfocal" and real parfocal, but I neither want a 10000 dollar lens, nor a bazooka :-) Maybe I should just buy the disposable flame thrower that has just been released.

You guys can sure avoid a good question. I am sure some of you own or used the PL 12-60, so you could just anser. my 14-50 Panaleica lens is 2.8-3.5, hence the awful mistake. So you are insinuating the standard 12-60 zoom lens is as good WHILE zooming ? On manual focus ? Does anyone here have actual experience with this ?

The f3.5 is not parfocal, and it offers no real improvement over my 12-35mm pancake. Also, the price difference is quite small for the moment. The 3.5 is only 100 euro in a kit, so why pay 500 for it ? i can get the 2.8 for less than in a kit offer.

Hi all, I know this has been discussed to death, but I can buy this thing new for 700 euro (577 excl VAT, I have a VAT nr). I currently only have gx80, plan to get a GH5(s) later on. I need a more or less parfocal zoom lens for classical concert work. I have a couple of other good lenses for static shots. The 12-60 has the following advantages for me: - lens OIS (if I ever would buy GH5s this would be an advantage) - focus stays more or less perfect during zooming - slightly more reach than the old 4/3 14-50 panaleica I am using Is there an alternative I do not know of ? The price seems tempting ... AF is not absolutely necessary, but my old 4/3 zoom goes off focus badly, and C-AF does not work at all, only single AF, so during zooming the shot is useless garbage.

OK, 11.3 % seems right, I was blatantly mistaken when I took the vertical as a constant... So, that is 1.9 mm wider. This should indeed have consequences for IBIS. -

Image sensor size17.3 x 13.0 mm (in 4:3 aspect ratio) Both for GH5 and GH5s. But it is my understanding the GH5 uses the full (width) sensor readout for 4K. This would mean it also uses the full width for C4K. The GH5 sensor is 5184x3888, which is exactly 4:3, meaning the effective width for 4K is 17.3mm. https://www.panasonic.com/be/nl/consumer/cameras-camcorders/lumix-g-dslm/dc-gh5s.specs.html If the GH5s truly has a multi-aspect sensor, it could be 1.42 times wider than the GH5 sensor. (17:9 versus 12:9). We will only know when someone gets one side-by-side with a GH5 and takes a picture ? Following the official specs of both the GH5 and GH5s, sensor widht for GH5s is 17.3 mm for 4:3, hence 24.5 mm for C4K ! IBIS would knock it through the casing if that is the case... -

I only just now realized I have been using my GX80 with the old PanaLeica 4/3 14-50mm lens with OIS, and that this is actually how the stabilised footage would look on the new GH5s. Since the GX80 does not use its ibis with the non-dual IOS lenses ? So, if you intend to use the GH5s only with OIS pana lenses, there should be no "problem" ? I am seriously looking into the GH5s for concert shooting (tripod, and the occasional handheld shot). -
The orignal Lumix L1 kit lens, which I bought in 2008: Leica D Vario-Elmarit 14–50mm f/2.8–3.5 (I got the L1 + lens for 750 euro instead of the "new" price of 2000 euro a year before. The L1 was outdated when it came out. Which is strange, because I still take still pictures with it ! Less now since I have the GX80) with the Panasonic 43 to m43 adapter. Works great on manual focus, AF takes about 1 second ... The above shot is probably on 50mm f3.5, sharpness -5, NR -5.

CA is only an issue with non-panasonic bodies. It is 100% corrected in-camera.

Hi, I just registered to this site. I have a GX80 since this summer, and did a few shoots with it. Battery life was around 35 minutes (4K, Ibis on, manual focus). According to the manual, actual shooting time is 40min in 4K. The G85 manual states the actual shooting time as 45 min, so you should at the very least also get 35 real minutes out of it. I got 2 spare (non-Panasonic) batteries. It is important to get them charged right before the video shoot, they will lose capacity when just sitting there for a week.
