  1. There is absolutely no issue with doing pans with the GH5's IBIS and there is no jerk as I saw in the early G85 pre-firmware update. Man, how one guy, who doesn't bother to learn his camera, can start this stuff, amazing. Now the GH5's IBIS, that everyone prior had loved, is crap. He's a funny guy, but trust me, that doesn't mean he knows what he's talking about. Yikes! Here's a very quick video I slapped together the other day at the new Nassau Colliseum. This is all hand-held and the first video clip shows a pan. There was no jerk at the beginning of the clip, but it was extremely windy. Normally I'd just edit over with music, but this wasn't to be a masterpiece or a saved work by any measure. The point was to see how the GH5 did in a real world, low light situation. ISOs went up to about 1600 or a bit more in spots within the arena and where the face painting was being done. And just as a point of confession (Jon, are you listening?;)), I did add a bit of sharpening in post for the one shot you see here. I thought it was a bit soft, since the 14-140 was at max aperture in low light (another no no, going full zoom in low light). In looking at this on my OLED, I added too much sharpening and probably didn't have to add any at all.
  2. When he started to knock the IBIS, I tuned out. Who knows what his settings were when he was walking at the beginning. I guess he never heard of AF lock. Wow, talk about hyperbole. But hey, he's funny.
  3. I would have helped her, but I would have taken a 4K60p video first.
  4. Yeah, 1 area, but I was trying to differentiate from the 'spot' focus.
  5. Why would this be better than the simple AF lock button on the camera that works regardless of lenses?
  6. Granted I'm only watching this on an IPhone at the moment, but the colors on the Panasonic were, IMO, so much better. It's one of the reasons I moved away from Sony.
  7. I'm still finding central area focusing works the best. That central area can also be moved anywhere you like. I found it impossible to watch that 45 minute video from Peter. This info could have been distilled down to 5-10 minutes. I also don't understand why he thinks 225 points 'has the most power' as he said in a previous video. What good is the 225 points when the camera decides where it wants to focus in that mode? He means well, he's harmless, but dang, he sure likes to hear himself talk.
  8. Absolutely true. I've watched this on my 5K iMac, 65" UHD OLED and 75" UHD LCD, and there is not a trace of moire. Further, I can't recall anyone ever complaining about moire with the GH5. As you've correctly said, sometimes the computer and/or monitor that's being used can easily cause these artifacts. That roof is squeaky clean. How about a nice UV filter smeared with Vaseline. That should give it that nice cinematic look that some are after.
  9. Jon, I just thought he was referring to the small size of the A6500. It is a small camera. It never struck me that he was saying that in a demeaning manner.
  10. Emanuel, at least for his indoor tests he did acknowledge the background in his office can be very challenging and confusing for some cameras. So it might have been nice for him to change his location, within his office, to see if a different result was obtained. I really wish he had seen and commented on my clips.
  11. Emanuel, not sure I understand.
  12. Well they mentioned my videos @25:13. Joe bookmarked them and ask Max how would he explain my results being so different from his. Max said he hasn't seen them. I've provided the links to them on his 3 Panasonic AF videos. Oh well.
  13. I re-read your post and I apologize, you are correct. Part of this was the frustration I was feeling in that it was only Max's tests that people were paying attention to and judging the camera on. It wasn't just the ignoring of my videos showing things to the contrary, but all the other GH5 videos that also showed the AF not to be nearly as bad as it appeared in Max's tests.
  14. I think the point is that most of wouldn't use CAF with any of these cameras. If I was shooting these things 'for real', I'd use AF lock or MF. That would totally eliminate the hunting. I've had total misses and hunting with my A6300 too, nothing new using CAF. My point in these videos was to simply show how much better, even the CAF can be, in a GH5 than what Max showed. I think you'll agree mine were considerably better in that mine was able to achieve the focus his simply didn't...a blurry mess. Of course any cellphone video camera, with their huge DOF, won't show hunting. That's not a tribute to their CAF, it's simply what happens when you have an almost infinite DOF. I've moved on from Sonys because I just don't like their color, missing features and none are offering 4K60p. Unless Sony solves the overheating with 4K30p, they won't (or shouldn't ) move to 4K60p.
  15. First most movies, TV shows and music videos don't use AF, they use MF. So what else would you expect. Beyond that, the background was not so distracting and most certainly did not 'fade in and fade out' (a bit of hyperbole there) that most viewers would ever notice it. You also keep ignoring the intent of my videos, to show how much better other GH5s are than what Max showed in his. And your comment that most people have moved on from image quality is truly amazing. Moved on? Really? Okeedokey. Get the Sony, it seems to be where you're headed. Enjoy it, it's a great camera.
  16. All were done in 60p, but much of what Max did was also done in 60p when he still incurred failures. I've concentrated on 60p because I intend to shoot in 60p more often. Not sure if you're referring to my videos, but if so, sure, why would we look at the subject. When I shoot a video I'm just praying people will ignore the subject and focus on the background. Do you even notice how much better the AF is in my video than the total defocused mess in Max's video? Do you not even see this? Good grief. The GH5 AF is fine, thank you, but it's obviously not for you. And again, I shot in that very same mall with the esteemed A6300 and it often wouldn't even focus on the subject and instead, focus totally on the background. I never had that once with the GH5. I'll take a bit of hunting over a total ignoring of the subject. I don't believe there was any improvement in the A6500 in terms of AF.
  17. And so I feel compelled to show the shots I've taken with my GH5, 2 or 3 of which tried to mirror Max's shots. The first video duplicates Max's video performing the same 'lens in front of the lens' clip. His failed each time. The 2nd mirrors his outdoors shots that also failed. The indoor video, again using CAF, was taken in quite dark conditions as we were having heavy rain and I left all the lights off. The 4th video, candid mall shots, was done just because my A6300 failed at times in the same mall and the same area. I wanted to see a) could the GH5 focus on the subject and not the background and b) could it retain focus and not drift to the background as my A6300 has. I'm showing this only because a) some may not have seen these shots and b) it's the right place for it to show that a GH5 can focus correctly in AVC mode. All I did was use the central area focusing with no changes to speed or responsiveness. It would appear this worked far better than anything Max used. I really don't know what else to say or do to show folks that Max's test may not be indicative of the GH5's AF performance. It's simply one data point. There are many many GH5 videos out there that show none of the issues Max was having.
  18. I'd have given you a 'like', but the site is telling me I'm all out of likes for the day. That's kind of like "Air Supplys", I'm all out of love. I think the point is that the settings are there, but you can choose not to use them...and you'll still get excellent results. I'm more than mildly amused by all the futzing with +5, -5, speed, sensitivity etc. I set the damn thing to central area focusing, leave every other AF setting at default, and my results seem to be 100X better than Max's. Did I say I want to hit my head against the wall.
  19. I'm assuming all the networks are televising it?
  20. Agreed, but let's face it, it took him a while. He got many posts suggesting his might be defective. With that said, It will be interesting to see what happens with his new unit. If he gets the same results, I'm gonna hit my head against the wall.
  21. I just can't understand why some can't accept that some owners are getting far different results than Max. I've personally demonstrated this no less than 4 times. There are many other videos on the net that illustrate this. Many. This has nothing whatever to do with 'defending' a purchase. However I think many in the anti-GH5 crowd are defending their current equipment.
  22. Yet he claims he's still likely to buy 3. I actually thought he said he uses MF more often in his work.
  23. Jon, I largely agree, but in the face of so many posted videos flying in the face of his results, I'm shocked that he continues to downplay the odds of him having a bad unit. On another note, it's stunning the number of child-like Sony trolling fanboys on his site. I find myself being attacked simply because I provided video evidence that not all GH5s are the same. Aint the internet great?
  24. Fritz, superb idea!!! This is done on other forums to keep the trolls out. I like it! Orangenz, it's amazing isn't? I watch these guys adjusting speed to +5 and responsiveness to -5 and then 20 settings in-between to achieve the 'perfect balance', and all I did was use central area focusing at the default settings. Done. I think some guys are making this more complicated than it needs to be in many instances. Sure, it might not be perfect for every situation, but hell, I've used it in a variety of environments and it's worked every time.
  25. Really, then what is this at 18:00? THAT is what I duplicated. Notice his failure? Notice my success in the same type of video? I give up. Why not watch the video that others are talking about. You are so far behind what's been discussed. I've reached the point where I don't give a damn about Max's tests since they are NOT representative of what many owners are experiencing. Good grief, if there were 10,000 GH5 videos with perfect focus, you'd hang your hat on this one. You don't like the GH5, don't buy it! Done.
