  1. Yes, the GH5 does do 10 bit 4K internally. I noticed you 'conveniently' left out 4K slo mo, IBIS and improved color science in your response. Instead you just focused on improved AF. The improved AF does work better than it did in the GH4 and that was the basis for my comparison. Some are also saying it's quite close to the A6300/A6500. I understand you're going out of your way to convince us (or yourself) why the GH5 just isn't that great. You're apparently not the target audience. Finally, yes, I can see a significant difference between the output of the GH4 & GH5. Apparently you can't, and that's fine. Can you see much of a difference between HD & 4K?
  2. But you do realize that both Samsung cameras have not been in production for some time and they've exited the market entirely, right? Not too many people are rushing out for an orphaned camera. BTW, I too had an NX1 and besides its quirkiness (poor AF, spontaneous shutdowns etc.), I loved it.
  3. Color is admittedly a subjective area, but I just don't like Sony's color relative to...just about anybody. With Panasonic's improved color first seen in the G85/GX85, to my eyes it's clearly better than any Sony I've used. Overheating is something, like you, I never experienced. I have gotten overheating warnings, but I never got a shutdown. Others have. So it is an issue and 4K60p would certainly exacerbate the issue. So Sony has its work cut out for it. Yes, I did mean the LCD, and again, it's subject. I much prefer a swing out LCD. As for IBIS, it's far better in the Panasonic than either my A6300 or A7RII. A number of people who have used the GH5 say it's actually quite close in efficacy to the Olympus. We shall see, but I'd be surprised if Sony does all these things with the next A7****. I hope I'm wrong.
  4. For many that have moved away from Sony, they'd need to improve the following: * Figure out the overheating issue * Improve their color science * Move to an IBIS that really works and is demonstrably superior to just an OIS lens alone * Implement 4K60p...again, without overheating * A flip out VF would be nice, thank you. I'd be surprised to see if they really come up with something competitive to the GH5, but I'd certainly like to see that happen. It just seems to me that Sony is so set in their ways, they rarely deviate from the path. I've used Sony cameras for years, so I'd like to see them give Panasonic a run for their money. The more competition the better.
  5. Sure, if you're not excited about: *4K60p *4K slo mo *IBIS *Improved color science *Obviously improved AF *Internal 10bit 4:2:2 *Improved low light that some say are in the range of an A6300 *Higher rez sensor for better stills Then yeah, not much to get excited about. (I'm sure I've left off some other things)
  6. Pity, I'm just not as astute as you, even though I do like pizza, The Godfather and The Beatles. 3 out of 4 ain't bad.
  7. Just imagine the A7*** series or A6300/A6500 cameras that begin dimming as soon as you press record! I agree part of it may be a concern for OLED burn-in, but I also wonder if part of it isn't due to a concern over overheating.
  8. No, that is not what I said. I said 'if this were being used to demonstrate the AF of the camera....". Obviously it was not shot with AF or it would be deemed the worst AF ever seen in a camera. What's amusing to me is that some people complain about AF misses when a camera is used in that mode, but yet when it's done deliberately, it's just super. Further, if I wasn't clear in what I was saying, it's quite different saying you don't like the 'technique' used (which is what I was saying) as opposed to not liking the quality of the clips that comprise the video. Often we can see beyond 'technique' if it's not to our taste, when assessing the quality of the camera. Finally, to infer from my post, "they know something we don't know therefore they're smarter and better than you." is so far beyond a stretch, it almost leaves me breathless. How is this not subjective? You think it's the nicest looking GH5 footage, and of course you're entitled to that opinion, but does that mean everyone in the world must think that too? I just don't get some of the comments here. It's kind of like 'my way or the highway'.
  9. OK, so page 148 of the manual certainly seems to imply that you can get a 40% extension (1.4 crop) in 4K, with no loss in quality.
  10. Imackreath, it's hard to tell from that clip since it's only in 720p, but have you seen this on a 4K monitor or UHD TV? Does the extender actually retain 4K resolution? IOW, because it's creating a 4K file doesn't necessarily mean it's doing so in 4K resolution.
  11. I guess it's just me that's not a fan of this in & out focus technique, sudden jerky movements that seem to be senseless and a grading that just doesn't seem right. In fact, if this were being used to demonstrate the AF of the camera, most people would say, "when is the GH6 coming out?". It just shows you how much subjectivity there is in these videos.
  12. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Here's another showing generally solid AF and some skin tones. Looks very nice to me.
  13. The lens is clearly not at infinity as you can see throughout the video. Focal point changes from near to far later in the video. At any rate my point in posting this video was not to show any artistic merits on the part of the shooter, but to show the improved AF. I truly don't believe the earlier firmware would have been this consistent.
  14. This may be from a production camera as it seems the AF is much improved over some of the early samples we've seen: Oh I'm not arguing that, just simply pointing out that the value of increased DR in that specific instance may be questionable.
  15. But often, what's going on outside the window when shooting indoors, is just a distraction that diverts attention from the indoor subject.
  16. Jon, I wouldn't be concerned about facial detail on the GH5. I've seen plenty of those posted already. I'm not sure what they did in that video that was posted of the couple, but it's obvious something deliberate was done to smear much of the texture. I think we need to take all the posted videos as an 'average'. Dwelling on any one video is bound to bring us to some erroneous conclusions. BTW, who is that amazingly good looking guy in the top shot above?
  17. Judging not only from other videos we've seen, but also the incorrectly applied preset in this video, I don't think we can use this video in any way to judge skin tones from the GH5.
  18. Jon, where did you see he used a preset? I didn't see that in the video or the description below...unless I missed it.
  19. Enjoyed watching that unboxing Orangenz, certainly not your typical unboxing video!! Here's the latest & greatest 4K60p video from the GH5...not shot by Orangenz.
  20. You are absolutely, totally wrong about this. Steel beams CAN be melted by high temperature fires. Good grief, brush up on science, not witchcraft. I'm done with this thread. It's just more hatred, bias and all the crap I'd like to escape from. Just as an aside, for those that think the U.S. is so hated by others, you might want to consider why terrorist events occur in European nations such as France. I like the camera threads much better and hopefully this entire fiasco of a thread can be deleted. Over & out.
  21. Andrew, some of the 9/11 comments I've read in this thread are a particularly sensitive issue for me. I worked on the 100th floor of Tower 1, North side. My office was about 3-4 floors above ground zero where the first plane went in (despite what some conspiracy freaks think...I get physically ill with their comments). Why am I still here? I got a call at about 3PM, the day before, from a client. The client asked if I could attend a meeting the next morning on Long Island. She was very apologetic at the last minute nature of the request. I told her, 'no problem'. Had it not been for that phone call, I wouldn't be here. By the time I got to the client, the first plane had hit and the 2nd plane shortly thereafter. Once the Pentagon was hit I told the client "I'm outta here". Who knew if we were headed towards a world war? My son got home that day after school and ran hysterically into my arms, knowing how close he had gotten to losing his Dad. That night my HR department called my wife, thinking I was missing & probably dead. It was an incredibly emotional time. For the next month, all I did was attend funerals of my co-workers who weren't so lucky. I can't even begin to tell you all the horror stories I'm aware of. One family was overjoyed because they had a kneecap to bury that was identified via DNA. Other families had nothing to bury, other than memories. So when you talk security, it's a very sensitive issue for me. Anyone thinks that the U.S. goes overboard with security, is, IMO, clueless. Utterly clueless. With that said, I agree with you, I am extremely concerned about the political ramifications of some of these intelligence agencies. I personally would fire Comey. He can't be trusted IMO and his almost schizophrenic behavior is a bit concerning. He can talk about one secret investigation but can't comment about another. Not the first time he's done something like that. There are valid scientific reasons for why WTC7 went down. I'm really sorry this thread was ever started because the ignorance and obvious political biases are depressing. http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/design/a3524/4278874/
  22. Actually this was entirely based on security alerts from intelligence agencies. Believe what you wish, but sometimes going with facts is the best way to avoid biases. Oh good grief. And we never landed on the moon. Anyone have extra strength Tylenol?
  23. Still showing 3/30 on both Amazon & B&H here in the U.S.
  24. And just as he said this, "hate from fanboys against criticism", he proved there are also those that are out to knock the GH5 every step of the way. I see it on multiple forums. So it clearly cuts both ways. There will always be those that will refuse to admit that a newly released camera could possibly be better than their current 'pride & joy'. This 'protective' behavior is not seen just with cameras, but in many other areas of electronics, particularly high end video displays.
