  1. Interesting! If the video specs are ideal, this may be my first full framer!
  2. It’s so funny that I was literally thinking that same thing! If we just flooded the JVC Facebook page and ask for the updated GYLS300!!! Lol I’m serious.
  3. Yea 150 mb in 4k is also pretty decent. I would say that I filmed most of it with the internal codec and the remainder in Pro Res using the BlackMagic Video Assist 4K.
  4. The JVC GYLS300 in 2019 is still very much relevant! It is so relevant that I’m wrapping up a documentary that is 90 percent filmed with it. Not diminishing the importance of this medium, but this isn’t a “Micro Documentary” that will be released on YouTube. It’ll be a feature length documentary that will have some historical merit within Hip Hop and Pop culture in general!! If it wasn’t for the ease of use and IQ of Gyls300, I truly would have had some difficulty capturing the moments I tried to highlight. I know it’s an older tool, but the technology is still useful and any skilled camera op, would be able to make this camera shine!
  5. Here’s a screen grab from an interview I filmed with the Gyls300 in Delaware.
  6. @kye I agree wholeheartedly! Regarding the Gyls300 VSM, that is one of the more useful features this camera has! I truly hope that JVC brings out a successor to this sleeper hit camera. To me, the color science is superb and that Alta Sens sensor is something special!
  7. Yes I’m super aware that the Gyls300 has broadcast ready codecs, but the distribution network I’m using for the project I’m working on, requires certain requisites. The similarities of these cameras are of course the form factor, built in ND’s, manual buttons for camera settings, ease of use, very usable mic pre’s, image quality, crappy monitor lol and good battery life! The differences are the codecs, lens mounts, VSM only on the Gyls300 and the type of storage for internal 4k DCI. For the Panasonic you need a very fast SD card to gain that option. The MFT offers full coverage of the super 35 sensor and is the perfect mount to attach almost any type of lenses! If need be, you can also easily attach a microscope to it! Then use the VSM feature to adjust the image to prevent vignetting!
  8. Thanks! I really thought I was not going to capture any decent footage. The young man was just too fast. Lol. Considering that I also fly a Panasonic Eva1 and a few other cameras, I just always seem to grab the Gyls300! I enjoy using it because it’s simple to use. Some of the things that make me grab it before the others is the battery life and the codec, which allows me to use humble SD cards. These cards don’t have to be the fastest, yet I’m allowed to shoot DCI 4k! I also enjoy the VSM (variable scan mapping) feature, which essentially turns my primes into zooms, with no loss of quality. One of the features that I never worried about , but is now a de facto necessity for whatever camera I ever consider getting and that is the built in ND filter! For this shoot I opted to film in HD 60p instead of the internal slow mo, to limit the crop and the loss of a stop. As I mentioned earlier I also own various cameras and the only reason I bought the Panasonic Eva1 is because it reminds me of the JVC, but with a more robust codec, which I intend to utilize only because the medium for which I’m releasing the project on requires it. If not for that fact, I would be using the Gyls300 all day! Thanks again!
  9. I was contracted to do a small Look Book for a popular “Influencer” son’s YouTube channel. It was filmed with a JVC-GYLS300 and a 7 Artisans 25mm lens. It was very difficult pulling focus with this rambunctious child moving about lol, but I got some decent shots.
  10. They also released a global shutter version which looks pretty promising!
  11. Most definitely there is an awareness of the countless factors that involve camera choices and its image as I mentioned, but to me the whole idea of why I choose cameras is specifically the sensor used. I like the idea of custom made sensors and each company’s concept of quality. For instance the AltaSens sensor used in the GYLS300 and the image created with it, to me is one of the most beautiful thing. My thoughts are that most modern cameras are like different film stock. I wouldn’t like to use the same “stock”. The reason I purchased the Z-Cams is because it uses the same sensor as the GH4, which sensor produces lovely images and since the E1s were a fraction of the g4 cost, I opted for it.......
  12. I’m very curious about the MAVO LF and I understand there are other aspects to a cinema camera’s “worthiness”, but if it uses the same sensor as the Sony full frame DSLR offerings, I’ll pass. I won’t, but rather get the Sony and kit it out.
  13. I am prepping for a shoot so I can’t respond exactly to how I feel about the recent comments, but I will like to share a clip that was posted recently. It’s a video recorded on the E1 with its new Zlog refinements and graded by one of their company’s “suits”.
  14. It’s funny the amount of contradictory remarks on this forum. I remember reading more than a few times that users are pleased that companies update their older products, even while new products are in the market. Yet it’s laughable by those sharing that same sentiment because of a fix that took a while to complete. I respect companies, big or small, that can provide continuous support for their users. It shows a level of commitment that creates brand loyalty and quality interactions, which brings better products to the market. These E1’s have been the most incredible supplementary cinema cameras in my tool box and I’m stoked that Z-Cam users still get the support for it!
  15. Also the predecessor has a new update!!! Awesome that they are still updating!!
  16. Lol love that!! This article about the PD Movie is an incredible review and find! Thanks a lot! Regarding the information, surprisingly the aspect of drone flying is an aspect I overlooked and with some thought on it, I think I would contract off that side of production for now. Still I very much enjoy the fact of me being able to handle all aspects of a production , so this will be an ongoing consideration. Regarding the device reviewed here this isn’t the exact version, but it’s safe to assume that some of the specs, especially the motor’s torque and the sad auto calibration may be a carryover from the PD version I’m discussing about. The version I’m familiar with the batteries are built inside the motors and the focus grip has a built in iOS device holder with zoom/iris controls on the underside and a standard size focus ring.
  17. Exactly why I’m on the fence because that version has tons of pro features and what makes it more tempting is the iOS connectivity with its ease of use interface for setting points of focus and zoom. There are ways you can even automate these features.
  18. I think the PD you’re talking about is different from the one I’m interested in.
  19. @DBounce @IronFilm this is the PD wireless I’m talking about. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1334504-REG/ikan_pd3_s3_remote_air_pro_wireless.html
  20. @AaronChicago how is the torque and the delay? @DBounceI would go crazy if my lens broke! It’s good to know that yours was safe. The Tilta seems mighty powerful. Did you purchase with theee motors? How is the delay? Is there an app for it as well? I can’t seem to find that information regarding iOS integration. The reason I’ve been thinking about the Ikan is their instructional video they have on it is so concise on its operations and the installation seems very simple. Also the app is really an awesome addition. @IronFilm I truly am on the fence between the two, but I always like newer tech!!!
  21. What do you mean by “torque-ing” in regards to the motors? Are you saying that the motor is too powerful for the lens? Is that just something you’re concerned about or should that be a general issue for other users?
