Not idea - there are so much samples and reviews - just my own modest experience-test about actual light transmission. At the moment I have Voigts and analogue set of Zeiss Contax - Voigt 17.5 0.95 has full stop (or little bit more) advantage over Distagon 35mm f1.4 at max aperture.... but, probably more interesting I had Panaleica 42.5mm f1.2, but Voigt have little less than 2 stop advantage over it at max aperture! (I. e. Nocticron has T value around T1.8-9, Voigt T1.1)... So, if Oly 17mm f1.2 (or 42mm) has the same light transmission as Panaleica 42.5 because of extremely complex construction filled with corrective glasses - maybe it is wise to question and test again statement about lowlight performance. For my eyes and taste regarding video usage - f0.95 is not just completely usable, but very often (actually, tonight I had a session in the cellar :) and so-call "life saver". Of course, that's just me.

If you think so... Btw ... must to admit that I miss a little new casting adventures with Huang... I don't know why, her and your efforts looks to me so lovable and always bring me a smile... breeze of unexpected encounter and unpretentious creative convergency.. as an writer, I greatly appreciate such spontaneous moments in our life...

Thanks - yes, I always use ND filter for the bright outdoor scenery, keeping aperture value around f2 or less. As it is known, Voigts can focus at near proper macro distance, so shallow depth is easy to achieve for some effects... Actually, I find that voigts are pretty small - but that, of course, depends of the other camera/lens combination we are used to work with (I kept comparative Contax Zeiss lenses for the case of potential usage of other, S35 or FF camera). Unfortunately, although I had all m43 AF lenses except new Olympus pro primes - I was not satisfied with their image - for my eyes they all look near the same with difference only in max aperture value, to much software corrected... Voigts, contrary - which I have everyday opportunity to compare with Zeisses and Leica Rs, looks to me even better than this classic favs... @Emanuel Thanks, it was fast little work but filled with emotions... Yes, modern cameras, especially these with greater dynamic latitude are extremely capable - if they go in pair with appropriate lenses... As always, mention of Upstream color, GH2 and Voigts is the must... Thanks for comments, although you admit that you didn't see it Actually, quoted open shot is pretty large continuous lateral and focus motion and I had to repeat it several time with handheld limits - it started with infinity, than move to the close focus of cemetery monument, than closer to ash pot, than to the (for me) interesting piece of paper on which one child wrote message to its late grandfather, than knife etc... And thanks for addition!

Because you are very capable master, I'd say anything clever (my point is, actually, appeal to your so masterful knowledge): simply add GH5s to your arsenal and save money... maybe for some new excellent lenses, say, Fujinon zooms, some anamorphic solution or so. Why to foolish ourselves too much: all quoted cameras are extremely close in final result, especially for purpose... so, I vote to stay mobile and quick, and rig further as you like it regarding purpose and client.... Jump over one generation of actual market offer... Besides, it looks to me cool to be seen as skilled gunman with pair of two gh5(s) Colts 45.

And this has not to be believed - it is simply so and truth... But it is challenge to participate in thread that permanently bring/threat you with fear that, in final, it would be seen as "hate" or "crying" or uncompetent or ungrateful to one DP - that still has no anything new to say about topic after hundred of often personal posts (!) - any single attempt to react against endless uncritical ode to camera that is several months already in the showcase and preorder, without any single provided shot. And after all these simple crying and hating facts - still again is born argument that such behavior is yet desired because BM gives so much for the money....There's no problem for me with BM to sell (not to give) anything comparative with chosen strategy... but with atmosphere in which any Consumer's voice of pure contra-reminding about failed or significantly prolonged promises has to be welcomed with a wave of intolerance, complicate advocating, quasiprofessional turnings of the topic or quasibalancing political correctness. Actually, I think that I much tighter and mutually happier cooperate with BM in this case - at the moment it turns out that I'm exclusively user of m43 standard... the same one that for many participators in this thread is at other places not-enough-professional and against-rule-of-physics to compete with FF or S35 cameras... So BM mission with new Pocket is for me even broader... lets imagine why not to further rehousing it in truly smaller m43 camcorder body with integrated all necessary connections... or even (someone else with combining know/how) with IBIS as advantage of (till the yesterday) "small" unprofessional sensor.

Yes, some people here and some people there, something is fine, something is silly.

Why should I have to bother with it asking such question and losing time - when they alone told me that it is so much worth, that was proud matter of their (be it who wish to be between companies) wizardry difference? ... And again and again, as if it is the must to slipped from the point... Which is not if GS is possible or matter of prepossessed power - but that we were being convinced that it is, to the great degree (deserving important distinctive announce).
-
I wonder why I should wonder about something that is promised and announced and allured me to buy... How would you called it and react to that in personal life? ... Simply, BM is so and so... actually, as I wrote earlier, this is some sort of prolonged puberty behavior that someone may sympathize - but not at all has to. We are customers and potential buyers, and we have all rights to be respected as we respect companies buying their products...
-
Ok, so one more excuse for bombastic announce before they actually mastered it completely

Well mr, quit paying attention to mine (and someone else in this thread) obstruction of any chance to keep your memories alive at any single occasion with and without theme. Jump it and keep conversation of everything you wish inside of extremely free thread. You see: mr JB keep going with his need in this thread common to all of us, you with your - and I'll be with mine. And I'll be happy anytime when I hear/learn anything new about topic of concern. Telling to someone that is crying when commenting/discussing is btw simply part of idea of charm and importance of some sort of men. BM never fixed promised global shutter for BMMCC as a crucial advantage for many preordering users and one of the two of their own crucial marketing point... Magenta issue is fixed when new cameras without it came into the market... And for TG sake... again... we all love and use/used BM camera, but that uncritical ode without permission to ask anything that is not for glory of BM is absurd of too obvious efforts of any sort of engaged persons. Remember, I am my majesty customer and at the end and at the long rate honest and founded questions and critics always do the best for the asked subjects

Wikipedia: The Panasonic Lumix DC-GH5 is a Micro Four Thirds mirrorless interchangeable lens camera body announced by Panasonic on 4 January 2017. Dpreviwed: Apr 11, 2017 https://***URL removed***/products/panasonic/slrs/panasonic_dcgh5 Nothing to mention that preordering was become actual always after first shots are widely available. But I think you know it all very well. Several months after announcing and receiving preorder, and after mr Petty proudly said that as of today he is happy that camera may go on the street shooting out of laboratory, all we have from obviously qualified ambassador in 150 pages massaging long thread is spectacular illumination - "Testing and finding errors doesn’t mean they will get fixed before shipping". Please don't get me wrong - I'm just reacting when it seems to me that is threatened common human sense and expected behavior similar for everybody at one place where I'm participating...

Come on, sorry to say... but this starting to seem ridiculous (at least to me) - so ALL are the same because one user dared to remind that ALL are not quite the same. There is Sony with overheating camera after 15 min, there is BM with stupid sun hole in camera marketed as cinema tool in which image solely is meant to be quality above others. There was magenta cast in Ursa for which repairing users begs more than a half year - again about pure image that it has to shine. BM screwed - not quite without hurt - many users after buying version before last UMP 4.6 without noticing that they started to made internal upgrade while still marketed model that they very fast stoped to provide with update... These are base things and quality - but no, now we have to put in the same basket even Alexa or Red trying to find some marginal and really occasional flaws. No, companies are not ALL the same - and BM in camera market is far away of desired behavior. (I find that even that 7 month long term of announce is something new and incorrect in sense of opening race for more and more earlier promising for everybody else - but that is more my personal dislike.) "Testing and finding errors doesn’t mean they will get fixed before shipping" - it is really some innovative phrase to say, simply, unprofessional... to say it mild.

@nigelbb Thanks... I'm personally little bit tired of endless discussion of the same technical tips - so I thought it would be more interesting to see them in some unpretentious, uncontrolled actions with artistic touch, at least in the season of vacation... Actually, it was interesting weather for me, being able to filming during all day with diffuse light and without ugly harsh shadows - while I was not occupied wiht long swimming ... As I wrote in youtube comment, it was GH5 with Voigts 17.5 and 42.5, maybe just to add that all was in HLG with ISO 400, just in the night shots ISO800... Of course, all handheld, even just at 24p with Atomos recorder (it happened to be that I had no enough space for 60p). Actually, I had also and Contax Zeiss S 60mm with me, but there's no need/time for its usage... besides, that Voigts have plenty enough macro capabilities and power to "see in the dark"... What maybe suprised me the most is - how low is color fringing even at f0.95 (maybe I'm lucky with lens samples). @jonpais Thanks, I appreciate your comment. It is really great and encouraging if night shots look clean even at your big monitor/resolution! And yes - for these shots I played (and will and further on play) with reconstructed @Sage Alexa lut... I didn't bought it, but I inspected his process and results and tried to reconstruct... so, IMO, he really did marvel and I'm ready to take totally serious what he said about how close GH5 with cleverly tweaking channels/colors could be to, say, Alexa! Great time for artistic shooters... @webrunner5 Yes, it would be challenge even for me-fanatic (once upon a time I swam for national swimming team)... but maybe you still have some pirate boat around the corner... or forgotten in the your old full photo storeroom...

@Tone 1K Yes, although we all love and had BM camera(s) - why it is so dangerous to remind about their obvious technical and marketing hurries and mistakes in past?... at least between these hundred of BM post about difference Hasselblad vs Kinefinity vs Ursa's or about fond personal memories of youth or glory of professional achievements of obvious BM ambassadors with tight connections and modest task... Some 129 post ago I've noted that Grant Petty has, without doubt, even now enough reasons to feel himself as The man with mission to democratize art of movie making - and, consequentialy, that new BMP camera has to be seen in that light: he, before all other, would not risk his reputation with any sort of fiasco. But... also, he looks sometimes to me also as an charmingly young in the soul, full of some stage fright about his ideals and premature creative hurry to announce them to the world... Actually, for me it is quite interesting to think how much BM products are, in a some important way, exact reflection of type/character of main creative mind behind them. (Personally, I'm above all and forever fascinated with that marvel he/his crew did and do with Davinci Resolve... Eventually, Resolve will switch off not just Premiere, but also and Flame, than, as it seems, even Merkalli and Neat Video :)

Maybe it will be nice to share fast unpretentious vacation-shots around the world... At least I'm always glad to see them, so that's mine last one.

ZCam E2 4k footage in the wild, including ungraded and 120fps
anonim replied to Trek of Joy's topic in Cameras
Thanks, this sample is pretty decent, especially considering 120p... These guys behind ZCam seems to me very unpretentious, fool of naive but lovely self-assured enthusiasm... I'm really glad about their effort. -
My problem is that IMO direction of thread more and more looks likes as that mr Brawley - based on his reputation and fear of some members that he could restrict his attention to the forum - started to moderate thread with his private opinions and memories and photos-from-location that are not just slightly or more out of topic, or just in one or two interesting cases - as. for example, revelation about it who was one of the first to embrace HDTV in Australia. So, for me it is contrary to evolving of discussion - my reaction is against evolving of someone's teaching free-meandering monologue that maybe better deserves its own guru-thread for interested crowd. It looks to me as if, for the some bizarre reason, thread about this camera has to be pumping for the suspension, to the level that it IMO looks as tasteless pastiche. We have here also other masters of the movie making, but I never saw that anybody behave with the same manner of usage of so apodictic approach in intonation and never-this-or-that sense in the words.
-
So, after 129 pages long thread we started to be permanently learned about all kind of professional life experiences, thoughts and achievements of respected member @John Browley - about his personal views about art of directing, blocking, etc., about (congruencе and suitability of) cameras and mounts, about TV shows, about his ideas/comments regarding future producing-perspective of different camera makers, little bit about resulted destiny of different kind of directors, as well about some important memories, friendships and personally relevant encounters... It seems that, without doubt, for all Eoshd members it is extremely important to read and learn these precious insights, but - wouldn't be better to open a new thread just about mr Browley's advices, tips, suggestions and opinions, where it would be possible to pose similar questions and follow free branching of topics and comments?

Thanks again, sir... Alas, it looks to me that gorgeous look of you photo from earlier post (you explained it as processed RAW) is completely lost even in straight jpeg, so it seems the same case happens in video usage that interests me exclusively.
-
Thanks... what lens you used for this photo? Or it is really extracted from some clip? If so, it looks to me different than Jon's samples... So, is there difference between how does sony a7iii process still and video image?

Choose the brightest and the most beloved/precious prime lens you have from 21 to 35mm FF equivalent. Why? Because it will be your best and intimate creative friend during the trip... and friend in the most intimate and contemplative hours could be just one... There is some magical-personal feeling to be alone with one prime wandering during day and night, that doesn't provide zoom's working easiness and convenience. You may and will miss some shots, but you'll put more of your soul in them... and that is the most important: not to hunt for shots, but to look for your deepest expression.
-
Comment not about AF which I don't use but about comparison of your two system examples... maybe this one from some reason is not so representative, but for my eyes, sample shots with Veydra and Panasonic are very very noticeable richer/more precise in colors/texture rendition and far better in achieving real-life suggestion and presence... Panasonic/Veydra look almost palpable, this one I find directing little bit to cartoonish (please take this word just as loose impression) side.

Or you have to have strong call-for-add-the-friend support, which luckily we have here in forum: - see subtle shades of colour (which the test confirms) - here is where shines @jonpais's obsession - understand what you are looking at - this goes only with 100+years-of-sober-wisdom/experience, which obviously candidate as ruler No1 @webrunner5 - understand what you want eg, if you like the 'Canon colours' - there's no dilemma, I even can't read/recognize word "Canon" more, because I immediately see @mercer instead - know how to operate your equipment in order to get the look you want - @John Brawley is person to call, especially about very last toys in the market end especially if you are yet undetermined do you really need them (yes you need them because they have glorious IBIS, or because they have not disturbing IBIS but crown of RAW)
-
First I had 10-12, but when I read webruner's score, I tried my best and get 0.
