I know that lovely model girl wouldn't agree with me about intention of conclusion - but, for example, Sony's sample doesn't at all discern wrinkles at her forehead in the interior-restoran footage, contrary to Panasonic. Is it possible that 12-60 is so much better lens than Sony's test-counterpar? Or effect of NR is so strong in case of Sony even at lower iso values?
-
Difference for me is unexpectedly significant image quality wise - GH5s is imo so obviously richer in color nuances and more detailed. But, strangely (?) GH5s samples are totally plagued with noise in lowlight test practically at any iso value. Maybe because of specific usage of vlog? I know about high native iso value for vlog, but dark sky looks horrible at any value in comparison with Sony.

For me this one looks significantly above other: capturing light reflections is brilliant, color distribution is smoother with better range, also distinction of face details looks to me more 3Dish prominent. Thanks for very usable post, sort of real life comparison.

GH5s under the see.

Oh no, you surely will not be banned being one of the, or actually the most polite/sober member here and I'm sure you know that. It just seems to me that, from the one point of discussion, you unwillingly made matters just more complicate - but, of course, I likely may be wrong. After all, it seems logical to me that any serious hacker simply needs competent community as some members here - as much as community needs capable hackers. If it is so - it seems to me that there's no place for possibility that both sides will not sooner or later exchange their needs without any help. But, of course, any truly great drama begin with triumph of subjective moments and their following conflicts
-
I think that part of the dramatic problem of this more and more becoming excellent scenario is - here we have some really and extremely competent people (even with proven contribution to NX1 long life) - Lucca Buttera or Andrew Read above all - that didn't like at all idea that they have to be tempered by any mediator. So, I doubt that tempering argument like "Look at the Sistine Chapel" could be received with applause... but contribution to growing NX1-rawhack drama to the one with universal proportion is, I think, unquestionable I suspect that contre-réaction in the form of dramatic peripetia will have some of the angriness against institution of chosen apostle... (My try of tempering is - we all are in the game, let's than play with playful smiles and - why not - exchanging the roles, including the flexibility of main hero.)

So, that would be a script with DNA of Killing of a sacred deer!

... and feeling forever ashamed and guilty that in his first trying to make objective script didn't mention main point (No. 8) of confronted opinion - that Arikhan marked (significantly strange) day for full disclosure of hack - day that most of sceptical-oriented persons didn't like or impatiently couldn't bear to wait!
-
@MountneerMan Yes! This one is first version of potential blueprint script. Seriously, I'd be so glad to hear some more - it's so funny and inspiring! Please some other from different perspective.

I'd say equally: you shouldn't at all, but also - never too late for welcoming to club of Jonathan Swift or, say, Alexey German Sr. Some threads here are evolving as wonderful disclosure of diversity of human characters. I'm serious - this and some other threads should be considered as very useful movie-making wise. I mean, as potential of very interesting scenario: zoom in here found reasons and hints for antagonisms or alliances, for selfover- and other-under- estimations, for personal affirmations and psychological compensations, for secret passions, hostility and eruptions of competence, for antipathy and sympathy... and one could get relevant introduction to human history and present. That's so much better than boring site whose sterile aim is to oficialy teach someone how to write an script. So I'm voting not to close such threads so full of actual life and inspiring plays of real personalities. (Sympathy mentioning: @Matthew Hartman I hope your problems with job and kidney very soon will be a past.)

Nice DIY thinking - and nice test of little setup.

Just thoughts from me... but I could be recognized for call because I provided somewhere earlier in forum my own test about similar achievable results between GH5s internal vs using Resolve's or Neat Video external NR intervention above iso 3200. But everything above iso 3200 means, imo, anyways stepping into realm of subjectivity and matter of task: how much of losing image details - leaving aside how good or bad is camera's resistance against color shifting - somebody consider tolerable. My conclusion is: GH5s has truly one stop higher margin of fully safe (details and color wise) lowlight capability for any professionally usage than GH5 - and that's impressive and really great, or, more precisely, that's a dream come true for all long time m43 users. Also, if someone is constantly in circumstances of shooting in dark conditions - GH5s also greatly save you time because of respectable but pretty aggressive internal NR. Advance in color science, although obviously exists OOC is, as I see, quite incremental or marginal, and its visibility greatly depends of usage mastering and lenses - even mr Altiser in his lovely enthusiastic youtube presentation admit that he is little bit "picky" regarding color progress compare to GH5... I'd say that any sort of ode to somehow revolutionary GH5s color magic is little bit exaggerating and owe to hype for new nice instrument - I'm personally more fascinate with results providing by such connoisseurs аs @Sage or Juan Melara showing how close in results could be GH5x or other top-prosumers cameras to these of highend professional instruments. Does all of that make enough reasons to prefer GH5s instead GH5 if you have to choose just one of them? For my needs - unfortunately not (although at the very moment I have great opportunity to exchange GH5 to GH5s + roughly 350e)... but, of course, for someone's else needs conclusion easy and fully justified could be contrary. ... I'm just regretting not to have opportunity to test GH5s with Atomos recorders - bypassing internal NR algorithm.

I'd say - cine version. Manual focusing is all about rejoice with root in natural feeling - and using smooth aperture ring better corresponds with that base feeling (of effortless, self-oblivion flow with time and nature

@mercer @Lux Shots It was just an addition to mercer's nice comment about DR capability of modern cameras... otherwise I wouldn't post it here. Concrete answers: 1) I have no Vlog in GH5 - more precisely, for me it is proven that its DR range is achievable by reproducing reverse software manipulation (i.e. that's the same as work of Balazer and others) - just one reason for me to paid extra cost is because of brilliant monitoring solution with Atomos recorders; 2) Vlog has its specific color reproduction, but it is also just arbitrary matter of taste, in fact there's no unanimous opinions about it as the most preferable solution 3) In posted example I liked to achieve some W. Andersson look - trying not just to retrieve color data, but also to test pushing them further in grading... So there's not at all any conclusion - maybe just that, at least with GH5, level of DR-wise grade-ability and color tweaking possibilities is pretty high (enough for serious usage) and funny once when proper base-log values are achieved by any methodology... (Hat down for results of @Sage)
-
@mercer Oh no, I'm not worried at all... actually, I know that this has identical DR as Vlog, so, judging from posted examples, it had to be 12 stops. As I wrote, I'm testing capability of other picture profiles with reversing them in log state with accurate reverse log curve. I posted it just for the sake of the last DR question in topic. Actually, I've found that DR of Vlog curve is achievable with any other - I tried constructing and applying procedure first with Natural.... Looking at posted examples and comparing/judging from real circumstances - result is excellent.
-
@mercer Nice. Just for the game... today at the morning I played with testing some reverse-log curve (in developing process) in my country house - how much of DR I can achieve. First one is original GH5/Natural profile shot, second one using this reverselog curve and graded... How many stops of DR it is? I don't know, but it doesn't look bad to me... these are stills grabed from clip in Resolve. (Of course, outdoor is snowish pure white f4, ISO200, 180 degree + ND filter, Voigtlander 42.5mm

Implementation of Fusion tab into Resolve for back and forth composing without rendering... and finally leave Flame family behind (and Adobe also)
-
GH5 + Takumars
-
Also, I've made an compound lut which constists of HLG-to-Vlog + my own developed version of GHalexa for better rollofs + (sometimes) one of the Huan Melara's (although not original from himself) film print luts as (at least I've found so) best grading start point. And baked it in Atomos during recording.

How about this? I have no Inferno to try.
-
Maybe somebody else also find as usefull as myself - I mostly replicated this one solution with Ninja Flame.... Also, I think that there's last update in Ninja Inferno and above recorders that support HLG from GH5.
