Never say never... BM Resolve is now free. Pocket is 4 years old. If some sort of Pocket II (or Ursa Micro) come out soon as their logical step in (hail to God) independent no-Japanese production line - Panasonic will surely react the first. Imho, road map for shaking news of GH6 is prepared: return of ibis for sure, lowlight is already spot - what rest is the first implementation and (for the first time modest) offering of raw. One is sure: GH5s is just anticipation (for gas addict and impatience ones ) for GH6.
-
Guys, keeping in mind that every company must have to plan two step in advance, it is obvious that Panasonic already have everything prepared for GH6 with IBIS, maybe and inclusion of prores or even raw. GH5s is testing middle point (as previously GX model) and will look as some sort of funny nonsense when GH6 will be announce or come out as killer answer to Sony A7S III. (Edit: and preparing to push price further with GH6)

Panasonic GH-strategy models have no inclination to seriously step into Arri and RED area - these are, as everybody knows, cameras for slow, accurate shooting environment. But to provide comparable indie experience up to the smaller broadcast level - Panasonic rules. And for that field, importance of sensor size between m43/APS-c and even full frame really doesn't more matter. Important is everything that - keeping enough level of image quality - provide indie sort of easiness: mobility, character of spontaneous shooting conditions, experimenting, camera reliability in uncontrolled circumstances etc. Before stubornly repeat sensor mantra for indie works, look once more, for example, to the Digital Bolex. Yes, P. T. Andersson's Master, Tarantino's Hatefull Eight or, say, Inarrity's Revenant could not be shoot in m43 - but these are just especial cases because of aesthetic choice - and it is field surely out of discussion for the most of us. (But, tell O. Welles about shallow depth of field.) For its truly area of interests, Panasonic is, in contrary, standard to be catched by clumsy restricted Sony and Canon offers.

Agree. Panasonic of course could do it, but will not do it - yet. Maybe, probably, GH6 - and it depends, I think, in great degree of reacting shaking power of small indie Spartan Blackmagic crude with brave chief Leonidas Grant Petty...

For the most precious population of serious GH users (documentary and first-time, stepping the game indie art-shooters ), GH5 is in fact first major step above hacked GH2 - because of IBIS and enough advanced color science (very plastic or deeply sculpting color possibilities). Next major step for that population has to be just one: RAWs - i. e. to finally integrate BMPCC (BMCC) and Canon ML into functionally extremely+ competent Panasonic body... Everything between (incremental software games with rollofs, lowlight, slow motions, even impossible inclusion of ND etc.) are postponement (and sucking GAS-money ) intermediate steps. Anybody who once upon a time shoot and fall in love with early BM (or Canon ML) cameras wait for the first brand who will give also functionally completed experience - most probably it will be Panasonic.
-
Agree completely. Just such sort of improvements for me could make formula GH5s > GH5 = 1000e (grey market price) acceptable. Anything else is +/- seductive gimmick and GAS dron attack...
-
Helpfully, there are always such extremely smart and illuminated heads to make balance with pure realism and sophisticate (i.e. 13 stops of dynamic range in the real world) argumentation.
-
Yes - but I'm happy that GH5 is so close to bmppc's very high pure-image standard In fact, as it were proved in many tests, mimic capability of graded GH5 footage besides Blackmagic or even Red cameras is very respectable. (So I'm surprised because of widely unbearable longing for GH5s savior - as if at once GH5 becomes incapable tool.)
-
Very interesting and accurate comparison between graded BMPCC and GH5 clips. Undoubtedly, I think, both gain very filmic presentation and - aside of high pedantic approach - could be easily cut together with proper grading treatment.

Yes, but at stills quality of iPhone is not "just" I'm talking about general direction of something that is seems to me as your intention - consciously оr unconsciously - to communicate from inside of your experience and emotions, even with "just" testing.

I think that I share the same impression of many eoshd members: without any flattery, some of your last shots, with that beautifully fragile-and-selfaware-looking model-girl, are showing indeed very high-level of aesthetically pleasant composition and atmospheric texture. Some sort of, say, hyperimpresionistic camera painting. Posted this so - judging to figure and face - tender and vulnerable, but at the same time so pride model inside the areas and nature mozenscen setup with character of intrinsic transience, results, at least to my eyes, in the poetic reminiscence of flowerish, or butterlflyish character of lives all of us. ... And yes, it is possible that manipulation with HLG profile bring some more pop impression of central object. But, in this case, I think that more even interflow of her face and body with ambience, gains better symbolic impression as stronger impact and achievement.

I missed that argument... but now I'm convinced Seriously, I've found two emulations of X-t2 very pleasant, but comparing to 10bit HLG form GH5 they are, so to say, "thinner" - at the same way that base GH5 image is thinner than Canon C100 II and ML Raw. About ergonomy, base of only one day of my using Fuji X-t2 - I think that someone have to REALLY love Fuji to appreciate it over, say, GH5: with GH5 all of necessary settings and operation I have in 5 joystick FNs commands - which is at the moment, from my point of view, simply unbeatable. Grip of GH5 leave something to be desired, but X-t2 is, in the comparison, near non-existent.

Good old video sample review from one of the indie genius Seb Farges So I'm holding 17.5mm at the moment infinity to 1m is about 1-1.5cm of focus ring throw, so it's easy to quickly focus within that distance. From 1m and closer, the focus throw becomes progressively loooonger... until you forget that once upon a time you started to rotate it,... giving you the ability to make very fine adjustments down to about 1.5cm from end of lens. Smoothness and dump-quality is second to none in m43 and aps-c world, on pair - or a tine bit stiffer - with (original) leicas, little bit better than zeisses. https://www.thephoblographer.com/2012/06/03/review-voigtlander-17-5mm-f0-95-lens-micro-four-thirds/ https://lepidi-photo.blogspot.rs/2012/07/test-du-voigtlander-nokton-175-mm-f095.html https://lepidi-photo.blogspot.rs/2012/07/test-du-voigtlander-nokton-175-mm-f095_28.html https://lepidi-photo.blogspot.rs/2012/08/test-du-voigtlander-nokton-175-mm-f095.html https://lepidi-photo.blogspot.rs/2012/08/test-du-voigtlander-nokton-175-mm-f095_13.html

Because Panasonic will change/update what is possible to change within its actual circle generation of sensor/processor power/camera design. Better screen in this incarnation (G9 better EVF), better codec usage (it is said that G9 has better and cleaner JPG color) including some sort of prores and cleaner noise reduction resulting in more usable lowlight performance, better autofocus algorithm (it is said that G9 already bettered in that field)... All of this small/big changes/updates TOGETHER sum up to +500$/euros. As always, for some person it'll be important update, for others cosmetic. All three (or 2.5 via paid upgrade) incarnations has to equally-attractive coexist in 2018 portfolio... That is called, in language of EOS legend - making beautiful juice from last drops of GH nectar...

Sorry... but why it has to have an undisputable weight of the rule of the nature?

Why not? Passion moving us, and I'm sure that passion has to be praised for keeping Jon so youngish and sympa to various Vietnamese beauties. At least Jon would be the only one "retired american", not just in Vietnam, with Atlas lens, in the world. Who knows what his story may resulted... some of us could make some spectacular indie movie about Jon's life road - including, of course, himself, or Neumans: GROWING TO THE ATLAS. Besides, what I've learned playing with matters about this topic is - the more you instruments are distinguished and pricey, bigger are chances to resell them if they are really precious for work - although, of course, with some lose.
-
Yes, go for it. Maybe just put on sale some of the rest your lenses. At least here everyone know they are mint!

When people say something not in favor of Sigmas, I gradually tend to become silent and let people to enjoy 2.5 D reality (It is just 0.5 of difference.)
-
No, just your venerable nostrils and earlaps looks strangely close to each other in Sigma's interpretation of visual 2.5 world
-
Ok, be it simple for whom is simple... without that annoying "3D pop" pseudosecret and its silly followers so effect of image depth depends exclusively of focal distance and Sigma's goal of ultrasharpness is not paid by any collateral -effect.
-
@jon It is not so simple... except for those who love simple solution (or explanation
