And to help create space and hide a cut under some B-roll. In an interview setting, cutting out the taletn's 'Umms' and 'ahhs' is quite important, but you still have to have a small gap otherwise the cut can sound unnatural. Room tone is like audio cutaways in that sense.

It's fairly easy to sync up to mouth movements. The hardest part is getting the audio in roughly the right place. that said, you can just find the very first word the talent spoke. You'll have that as visual and as audio. If you get that word or sentance close, just nudge the audio by 1 frame left or right until it matches. It's about 5 or 10 minutes work, depending on when you started the audio rolling. In all honesty, you could have got it synced perfectly in the same amount of time it took to make the post and wait for a reply. ?

The main problem I find with this camera is the workflow. Resolve doesn't recognise the files if you shoot in 422 and Premiere does this funky thing where it only plays the top corner of the frame when I try to play the timeline. When I pause I can see the whole frame again. Image on the left is the same frame (give or take) as the frame on the right. Left is paused, right is playing. I seem to remember both BMD and Adobe saying they have no plans to support JVC's codec because so few people require it.

It also depends what your shooting. For example, I've heard theories that for slow motion you want absolutely no motion blur, so shoot with a faster shutter angle than 180. Since slow-mo makes things look more 'magical' you can heighten the feeling by ensuring everything is sharp in the movement. I'd shoot slow motion at 90 degrees - But i don't do it often, so could be getting mixed up.

That's what I thought. But the last I read that was before the new date was changed to the 5th Oct, so perhaps more info was available. IBC starts in like 2 weeks. I imagine it'll be released around then - or at the very least, there will be an official update.

@John Brawley - Love the clip, nice one. Having used it youself now, how do you feel it will match up to the bigger cameras you use in your work. You've said you use the original pocket often, and other people have said this is missing that kind of mojo. In the real world, does that make matching it to it's bigger brothers any different? Will you be ditching the OG pocket for this on your shoots? EDIT: Also @CaptainHook, do you know is there any validity in B&H's new release date? (Oct 5th)

Do you know of any plans to release some untouched original files before the camera is released? I think even that would be hugely appreciated, perhaps more so than the forest video.
-
Also, what would recording to an Atomos provide that you can't do in camera with BMD? (aside from ProRes RAW for the time being) I suppose you could record at a lower resolution for distribution, while keeping the 4K originals for archive...

They're definitely doing it on purpose to hold our interest. How many people are not buying those Nikons just because this is so close now?

Since they're in Aus, they could actually do 1st Oct and (most of) their customers would still get it in Sept haha!

Well, officially, they never said anything would be released on the 3rd. B&H said that, and removed it when people noticed. That said, I believe BM would know by now whether they're still releasing in September or not.

I disagree, the flat look works with the story and enhances the mood. Nice one! Will you post the full movie, or are you submitting it somewhere?

Well, the distortion and vignetting is on the edge of the frame, but if you cropping the edge of the frame out anyway, and using only the middle of the sense, it doesn't matter if you have vignetting. the 8mm fisheye was made for APS-C cameras, so there won't be any vignetting on an MFT camera anyway I would test when the camera arrives, but I sold the lens a while ago.
-
I've not shot much slow motion, but when I have the cameras have cropped in on the sensor to achieve 120fps. When I did it, I had a speed booster with Canon's 10-18mm, so that did the job. I've also used the Samyang 8mm fisheye with a dumb adaptor. As you can see in the image below, the crop bypasses most if not all the distortion.
-
Yes, but that answer, to me, implies that HD has a 2x crop of the MFT sensor, and 4x crop compared to a full frame sensor.
-
I really hope the answer refers to shooting 120fps. I was under the impression normal 1080p (up to 60p) was no sensor crop, so 1.9x 'relative to Full Frame 35mm'
-
Surely 1.2x crop then?

With September just two weeks away, I would have thought they'd know by now if they need to delay. We're still waiting on footage, but I think keeping the exact date a mystery ensures people will continue to look and search, maintaining the interested and excitement the camera has built up since April. I'm feeling pretty optimistic about receiving this camera within the next 6 weeks.

I would 100% go with a better codec. For the most part, as long as you're in focus, everything else can be fixed in post with the proper codecs. Aside from that, seeing a hunting AF in a video drives me crazy, and is big enough reason for me to never even turn AF on. If you slip out of focus manually, it can look stylish and add to the image. If AF goes out, it looks terrible. If you're making a short film, AF is even less important as I assume the actors will have fixed paths while they're moving, so you can practice pulling focus.

But - The Samsung T5 is a lot cheaper than that and has the memory built in... Unless you're looking for a way to avoid using the USB port I guess... That said a could 128gb CFast cards are around the same price as that option. Or better yet 1 256gb card is actually cheaper than going down the route of Cfast - SSD. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Delkin-Cinema-CFast-Memory-Card/dp/B01H5C79AE/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1534396663&sr=1-1&keywords=cfast+256gb Also, what if the camera needs the card door to be closed? It's a possibility.
