  1. Isn't C Mount limited to those small 25mm though? I have an old Sony 12.5 - 75mm 1.8 c-mount and on my GX80 it's full circle of vignette throughout the whole range even at 1.8,. Granted it's a physically long lens, but I don't imagine any other cameras cropping enough to cut out the black circle around the image. These are quick frame grabs at 12.5 (first) and 75 (second):
  2. FYI, There's a bluetooth app to control the camera, but no liveview or focusing options. They are open to people developing their own apps though, so maybe that's something we'll see in the future ( @BTM_Pix ?)
  3. Well, that's already been answered a while ago. it'll be 1.9x crop. I was just pointing out that they've been doing some testing with the non-camera-specific speedboosters, hich is promising... will likely save Metabones from making a new one specially, and current owners having to buy new ones to fit. Win win.
  4. While you guys are arguing over nothing again - BM seem to still have some tests to do. I guess that since the 0.64x Speedbooster works, it's fairly reasonable to assume the 0.71x will as well right? Of course real test would be better, but to me this kind of sounds like if the left shoe fits, the right one will too. Can anyone correct me if I'm wrong? EDIT: A major retailer in Holland just opened up the ability to pay 100% for this camera. To me that says they're pretty confident that they can deliver when expected (sometime in September) - But I'm failing to see the advantage of paying in full now and preordering... maybe it bumps up the queue.
  5. I thought that might be the case, but as the saying goes - if you don't ask, you don't know. Thanks again!
  6. Since we have an insider here, are you able to provide us with some real, new info? Is there a plan for any sample footage to be released soon? Is September still a realistic estimate? Is that global or just a handful of stores to meet the suggested release time? Of course, I (and I assume the rest of us) understand if you're unable to provide any more information. The silence is deafening.
  7. Don't Netflix require Raw for their original shows and movies? Or am I thinking of log?
  8. Sorry for posting the same video again, but..... @John Brawley what are your thoughts on this hypothesis? (using ISOs lower than the native for 'cleaner' images)
  9. Not arguing, just thought it was funny. Not sure if you noticed, but BMD have stated that this camera will come with 1 battery in the box. The above quote kinda sounds like you're saying that it doesn't come with any battery, so wanted to clarify. Sure one won't last too long, but LPE6 batteries are so cheap. If you don't already have any they're like €30 for 2 and a charger. Or like said, you could go the external power route at a later date. My point is, you can use the camera out of the box. I'm fairly confident that even the 95mbps Sandisk cards will be able to handle LT and maybe even 422 at 25/30p. I'd say most of us here have those cards or something similar, so can shoot on the very first day the camera arrives without having to buy anything extra. To me it seems perfect for that, in fact, that's almost exactly what I intend to use this camera for, as well as live music performance - not concerts, but performed specifically for the camera - The only reason it won't be fantastic in a documentary situation is the battery, but as discussed, there's easy ways around that. And IS, but that depends on your style of shooting and style of doc. For me, it won't be a problem.
  10. And lenses And sound And all the other stuff that also applies to every other camera out there. ?
  11. Why not fisheye? The crop will crop out most of the distortion. Sure it will look a little different to a linear wide angle, but not too much. Edit: This is a from a clip I shot with a JVC LS300 testing the 120fps mode. I'm not sure of the crop factor in that setting, but the lens is a EF mount Samyang 8mm fisheye with a dumb adaptor (not speedbooster) As you can see, there's no distortion at all. ------ @IronFilm The windowed HD on the P4K is only in the 120fps mode.
  12. That's great, thanks! One thing I would note though, about that Tascam recorder is that there's no Phantom power, which can be limiting, depending on what kind of mics you're wanting to use. A great alternative is the Saramonic VRM1. It's perfect for those short films with no crew, as since most shotguns need power (although some do have their own batteries) you can stick an NTG on it, power the mic through the recorder and bam, essentially you have wireless boom. https://www.saramonicusa.com/products/sr-vrm1
  13. @IronFilm 'can't shave, too busy livin' ? Also, Disney seem to be doing a clear out. I wonder if this is also due to people being too sensitive? https://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Travel/walt-disney-company-eliminate-plastic-straws-2019/story?id=56812530
  14. Modern pop music. There's still plenty of people experimenting. And even then, there are those like Childish Gambino or St. Vincent, who're pretty wild, while still attracting the popular audiences. My work is mostly around the music industry and there are a lot of interesting types coming up, but they'll never be as big as Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus etc... ABBA have a new song coming though. But yes, in general I agree. In fact I'm watching Live at Pompeii right now. I was also going to say that, but it's turned out to be the right decision with more people speaking up about him. On the flip side though, they do have a lot of those mid-budget films popping up. In fact, I remember something about 'Annihilation' not getting a studio release because it was too weird or something. Netflix jumped in to distribute it, and it's well within the top 10 best movies on the service - if not, dare I say, of the year as a whole. Off topicish EDIT: Another reason most modern music sucks is because the music industry is making the distribution formats worse, and targeting the wrong groups. mp3s and streaming is the norm now, and that quality simply can't compete with Vinyl or CD quality. Movies have gone from VHS to Bluray and beyond. There's no question watching a movie at home is getting better, while listening to music is getting worse (unless you pay more or seek out older, outdated formats). Similarly, services like Netflix, HBO and even Marvel with their new R-rated movies and Disney with their darker live action reimagining target adults who have disposable income, and make the content for them. Music studios target young teens, who don't have so much money, and buy one song at a time on iTunes or pay a cheap monthly subscription, which leaves little to pay the artists who make the music in the first place.
  15. Well, it's a shame, sure. But James Gunn isn't going to stop making movies. Over the last few years, mid budget movies have hit a slump. They're either 100 millions dollar blockbusters or indies. Maybe this, and other examples like it, will be the start of a resurgence in mid range movies. If the best directors in the game can't make the huge summer movies, they'll get funding elsewhere for other projects where they really can be artists, without having to please board members. Every cloud huh?
  16. That's what I thought too, but the guy in the video I posted, shows that if the native is 800, but the camera can go lower (400 or 200) those might give cleaner images at the cost of DR, but 400 is the perfect balance. I guess we'll wait and see. Pretty lush huh? And check these out.
  17. Is this likely to apply to the Pocket 4K? In the video, he says although URSA Mini Pro 4.6k has a native ISO of 800, you'll get a cleaner, more malleable image at 400. With the P4K's dual ISO of 800 and 1600, would it be reasonable at this time to assume that you're better off shooting at 400 and 1200? Does this also apply to the GH5s, since it also has dual ISO? (Disclaimer: I realise any responses are entirely hypothetical)
  18. I wonder how that's going to change once ProRes RAW is more available and has been tested a bit more. From my understanding, the file sizes aren't much different to normal ProRes options, and the workflow should be much easier that working with CinemaDNGs once more editing software is updated to work with it. I guess it'll be like working with "hyper-LOG". ?
  19. Fair enough, I was just going by the product details. Seems strange to under estimate the speed so much haha.
  20. This seems like the best card, speed for money wise. I also like that they print the read and write on the face - makes me trust them somehow. At least a lot more than those who hide their speeds. Reviews are also very good. https://www.mymemory.co.uk/integral-128gb-ultimapro-x2-cfast-2-0-card-550mb-s.html
  21. Don't buy this card. The write speed is only 160mb/s. These are the data rates specified in the Tech Specs for this camera on the BMD website. These are also based in 30fps recordings, so basically double it for 60p. 4096 x 2160 CinemaDNG RAW - 272 MB/s CinemaDNG RAW 3:1 - 129 MB/s CinemaDNG RAW 4:1 - 97 MB/s Apple ProRes 422 HQ - 117.88 MB/s Apple ProRes 422 - 78.63 MB/s Apple ProRes 422 LT - 54.63 MB/s Apple ProRes Proxy - 24.25 MB/s 3840 x 2160 CinemaDNG RAW - 255 MB/s CinemaDNG RAW 3:1 - 122 MB/s CinemaDNG RAW 4:1 - 92 MB/s Apple ProRes 422 HQ - 110 MB/s Apple ProRes 422 - 73.6 MB/s Apple ProRes 422 LT - 51 MB/s Apple ProRes Proxy - 22.4 MB/s
  22. Wow, so much judgement. I have C.Fast 2.0 cards ready to be delivered, but since I already own C.Fast 1.0 cards and a reader, I was wondering how useful these are going to be, or if I should add a new reader to the order. Chill. I do indeed, I have, and regularly still use the Atomos Ninja Star, with 128gb card and a reader. At worst I'll plug the camera into my computer 5 times between ordering and receiving the C.Fast 2.0 reader, should I need one... I can deal with that.
  23. I'm having trouble finding the answer, so hoping someone here can help me. Can a C.Fast 1.0 reader read a C.Fast 2.0 card? Similarly, are we likely to be able to use C.Fast 1.0 cards in this camera? (Of course lowering the recording formats/frame sizes/frame rates etc.) FYI: I did find that the camera's USB Type-C can be used for external drive recording, software updates and media download. So, for those wondering, like myself, readers aren't mandatory to get started.
  24. I don't know much, but the read/write speeds seem to suggest it'll work just fine. SanDisk is 500MB/s write and Samsung is 515MB/s write. I can't imagine the difference being enough to worry about I like the little loop in the corner, make's for a nice place to connect the drive to the camera, minimising risk of losing a connection.
