I think it definitely has more dr. I disagree with the comparisons but still early days need to see more footage. Looks good though.

Nikon Z6 features 4K N-LOG, 10bit HDMI output and 120fps 1080p
Yurolov replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
"With the use of an HDMI cable and an Atomos recorder, you can record the worlds first 10-bit footage from a hybrid full frame camera. Pretty exciting!" I think Erik sums it up pretty nicely here. Fact is you will be getting beautiful color in 10 bit with a robust codec. Recording in camera in a mirroless camera doesn't leave enough headroom in terms of bit rate. If you want something cinematic you will be recording externally regardless. But if you want run and gun, the ninja v is quite small, and even without it you get nikon color, good af and a robust internal codec. Seems a winner to me. -
As I said in the previous topic, with a ninja v it is perfectly compact and most people need an external monitor to view in any event under direct sunlight. With the ibis you can still hold the whole setup in your hand with ease. Even if the as7iii has 4k 60p and internal 10 bit, short of it getting the venice color science, with all the positives of the nikon (color, ergos, menus, good af which prioritizes the torso once the head is turned!, less focus breathing on lenses) it will be hard to beat.

Looks pretty impressive lol. Did i read somewhere you can variably adjust iso, focus, and aperture with the lens? Can it autofocus while doing 10 bit hdmi external? -
lol show me another full frame camera capable of 10 bit (external or not) at that price range, plus what I imagine will be good video af.
-
I dont know - look at the side of the camera - is there enough room for a full-sized hdmi? Wasted opportunity for sure.
-
Nikon rumors had it up. It says the box will come with a hdmi cable.
-
Seems curious they are including a hdmi cable with the camera. Intriguing as to what this might mean for output specs for video and video IQ in general. Maybe they will be able to pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat!

New teaser and some more photos of the camera. Looks pretty small in the hand compared to the photos seen with the asian model.

I think he went from gh5 to 6d mark ii because the af on the gh5 sucked. Then he went to the 1dx mark ii which he uses for the majority of the video because the 6d mark ii is clearly a piece of shit (although the 6d mark ii is used here and there cause it is smaller and has the flippy screen, which is handy when you are travelling on a skateboard, and i guess it was used for the intro). But ye, the 1dx is leagues above anything else in that video. Problem is, its like carrying a brick around.

Goes to the broader discussion about what a full frame nikon camera means for the market, and what smaller sensors might need to compete. My thinking was that they might be best served for run and gun scenarios given the ibis and potential for upgraded af. In run and gun circumstances, no one wants to carry around a gimbal if it is not necessary. The implications for documentary work would be immense given the compact and discreet nature of these cameras. Which is why paired with a a decent autofocus system they would be an attractive proposition to many. Even more broadly, maybe some here would like to see what olympus has to offer before they decide to purchase a nikon. Just speculation prior to release.

According to the rumor sites olympus is putting out another high end camera early 2019 with 'advanced video features'. These are two companies that have nothing to protect in terms of high-end video gear so they are of most interest to me. I don't think we will see anything great from canon but I don't see why nikon couldn't go all out in terms of video - unless there are some contractual obligations we aren't aware of. Needless to say, I think m4/3 has a place in the video sphere if they are able to improve their ibis. Olympus has the best, and they are said to have made it even better. For me an ideal situation for a small mirrorless camera, one that is competitive, is one that has ibis good enough to where u can chuck out your gimbal. Couple that with good video af and you have the perfect run and gun combo. I think this is where their market is.
-
For those of you forward thinking enough old lenses which are of good quality but lack IS, whether Nikon or canon, will me a lot more desirable if IBIS comes to their mirrorless options. For instance the ef 400 5.6 suddenly becomes a great modern lens and its price might rebound to reflect that.

I will shortly be attending a screening of 3 faces, a film by iranian auteur jafar panahi. You might have heard of him, perhaps not, but he is the chap that is banned from making movies in his native Iran. He has made movies since his ban, Taxi Tehran, winning the golden bear in berlin. And 3 faces premiered in cannes. I am intrigued by his situation because not unlike most of us he has to make do with what he has - certainly, he has the added benefit of a well-known name and the added benefits that comes with that. However, by reason of circumstance, perhaps more so than budget, he has to make do with the tools he has at his disposal. This meant for Taxi Tehran using the blackmagic pocket cinema camera. Most recently, for 3 faces, he uses the cameras and lenses referred to in the title. I will have the added benefit of seeing what these cameras look like on the big screen which is nice, though on the trailer they don't look too good. However, that is not my point, my post is simply made to inspire anyone out there feeling constrained but what they can or can't afford.

If Canikon knock it out of the park I don't see why anyone would consider m4/3 anymore. The Gh5 and Em1 II are already large cameras and there isn't so much to be gained in terms of size unless you are talking about telephoto lenses. The new nikon mirrorless looks to be diminutive in size so I don't think it will be too much of a consideration for people. I think panisonic and olympus either go full frame or die a slow death. Especially with full frame cameras dropping in price. We are seeing the same problem with the fuji and the xh1, being in practical terms more expensive than the a7iii. The thing with fuji is that their lenses are quite expensive, especially considering they are apsc lenses. For example, their 100-400 is priced equivalently to canon's superior and pro level 100-400. Their range at the long end isn't good either.

Politics is a fools game. It turns people against each other whom otherwise may have been good friends. It reduces people to charactertures. The longer you play the game the more you see it everywhere and the more it affects the way you think. Suddenly, it is in comedy and art and those arenas, once for enjoyment, become hostile and combative. People on here who are here to discuss something they love and are passionate about become enemies. It is sad to see. Blessed are those who are able to ignore it and not let the hate seep into their hearts. I don't follow politics so i don't care what you think. I will not reduce you. I will see you as a person and if we are able to have a conversation about something we love, then perhaps even a friend. Lets try to focus on what we are all here for.

If you dont need 4k, which let's be honest only a small amount of us really do, then it is the best bang for the buck camera out there in terms of the image quality and ergos. The image is better than the gh5s and in the end it will cost you less. I think Dave is right though in terms of size. It's not a camera that can be put on a single-handed gimbal like the gh5s. But with an IS lens you get fantastic handheld footage.

As the OP, I concur. The ship will right itself once new information comes to hand, at which time the discussion will return once more to focus on the camera.

The Kodak kai-02150 was the sensor used for HD video capture. AFAIK it was used in the bolex and ikonoskop cameras. There was a guy called Roald Christesen who even made his own camera with the sensor and like with the panasonic hack I think a laptop was used to capture. The old ccd's were just about the closest thing you could get to film (peaking with the ikonoskop camera).
-
I would have thought that getting 60p out of a full frame sensor takes much, much more processing than on a m4/3 sensor - not to mention the added heat dissipation issues that come along with that which are compounded by the fact that the full frame and m4/3 cameras are pretty much the same size. Look how big the 1dx has to be. Short of a redesign in the body I don't see it happening. Best we can hope for is Venice colors.
-
Not sure it can be done if there are patents and stuff involved. It is a great image I'll give you that. Good find!

Sony FS5 II announced with 4K 120fps RAW recording at NAB 2018

What say you people? Any good? -
Nice footage. Colors are great. Anyone got anymore footage with some c-mount lenses?? Preferably with skin tones.
