  1. Not gonna lie that tilta desgin looks nice. Now we need a whole bunch of new tests with this thing strapped to the back!
  2. Lmao. Their own rep says they clearly wouldn't ship a camera that overheats in 24p. But canon's info says they did just that. Even their own reps can't believe their incompetence. And this is the guy who had the first hands on with the c300 mkiii in the UK. What a shitshow.
  3. It's a shit review because he gives anecdotal evidence about HIS specific use case (which is vague to begin with), whereas the people watching need the particulars to decide if it will work for their use case. Nothing is made clear like Andrew says. He could have been rolling the camera for 3 hours straight then it overheated. Or maybe 2 hours then it overheated. Some people might find this acceptable. (It is inferred that it is much worse than this). But we will never know cause he doesn't give any particulars or say anything of use lol.
  4. I've seen some in the bargaining stage. "But, but...you can still use it in some 4k modes, right??" I used to own the a6500. That would overheat some but the recovery time for these canons is next level. It's laughable you can't use 4k30p. You should write comedy, Andrew. This article cracked me up.
  5. I like the changing reactions of canon shooters as more and more info comes out about these cameras: 1. denial 2. anger 3. bargaining 4. depression 5. acceptance. Come over to stage 5 guys, it's ok. It is inexcusable to have a camera overheat at 4k30p. Don't care if Sony had it in the past.
  6. To be fair he is using it for extended long-shot interviews. But if it is a sealed system, external temp shouldn't affect it so much - as shown by Northrup vid. Just looks like a big ole fail.
  7. Off topic but I couldn't disagree more. You have to segment your product if it is a luxury product, unless you want it to join the ranks of dross that is being streamed. People like going to the cinemas. It is a communal experience. It won't stop. The real lack of innovation is the fact that they keep pumping comic book movies out.
  8. Canon are done for video at that price. But for some hybrid shooters they still might justify the purchase somehow. Some people don't know enough to be able to differentiate or know the difference between binned and oversampled. Mainly because they don't have a reference. I think we need more testing before we can say for sure. But it looks like junk for now.
  9. It is a disaster of a review. Purely anecdotal evidence with no actual numbers. I think the most we can take out is it can't be used on professional jobs at all in high temperatures (summer in Japan). I am first one to put up my hand and say I thought it was a great camera coming out, but this is unmitigated disaster. Canon are done as far as I am concerned.
  10. Not sure if we are allowed to post this here: But judging by this it is an unmitigated disaster of a camera...although that is not the impression you get from dpreview where there was no overheating at 24p. But summer in japan can get hot. Originally, I thought this would be a good camera, but if it is this bad, then I don't know how you could justify purchasing it.
  11. yeah some dad from china does a better review than any of these so called professional reviewers cause he is focusing on how people are actually going to use the camera. It's a 4k 30p pixel binned camera with 10 bit 4:2:2 internal and with limited function in higher frame rates. Canon should have advertised it that way and imposed hard limits on the 60p and 120p modes. People would have been less hysterical.
  12. smh, why dont people test the binned mode versus the HQ mode. Overheating won't matter if the binned mode is good quality. The only issue will be in 60p and 120p, and I doubt people are shooting 30 minutes of 120p footage, and don't get me started on the degenerates that shoot long-form 60p like toneh. Most of these youtubers are too dumb though. edit: spelling.
  13. I have never been to Berlin but I always read that it was a better place for artists than the continental US or other parts of Europe. But looks like that has changed. For me, the antidote to the modern world is slow cinema, which gives you room to breath and live in the world. But I think we take for granted things that are here and that won't be tomorrow. Everything is changing so fast, so it is important for people like us to document things at least so there is some kind of record. Otherwise it is left to the reprobates.
  14. I think it must have something to do with fame. Youtube promises easy fame with minimal work/talent. For a young kid it is more appealing and easier to be Peter than an obscure filmmaker making films for a select few people. There are so few people who appreciate good art that things will never change.
  15. You need to have talent for that. Some people do it for a job to feed their families and aren't able to create art. I won't criticise someone for working hard and putting food on their table. But not do I expect art from them.
  16. Cause with all due respect it isn't a good idea. He mentions wildlife being a use case but for wildlife it would be so much better just using crisp EF glass than vintage s16 lenses. How long does s16 glass even get? No, I'm sorry; if you have the glass, fine. Otherwise, I don't see why anyone would purchase for this reason. I doubt ONE person will buy s16 glass to use with this camera.
  17. Just get a digital bolex. You don't need this for s16.
  18. I think if the main thing you do is photography and you want some video on the side, or if you want photography and the ability to shoot very high quality short clips, then this is something to consider at least.
  19. To steer us back on course, just on the QC issue. I don't think the QC will be the same for a 1k pocket as it is for a 10k ursa. So any anecdotes about how someone's pocket failed just doesn't mean anything. This ursa body has stayed relatively the same throughout several generations - it would make sense that they have ironed out the kink's in the manufacturing process by now, and what's more, because the body is the same, it means they were able to pass the cost-savings to the end-consumer. If they are aiming for the top of the market, I doubt they would be stupid enough to sell an unreliable product and tarnish their name for good.
  20. It might overheat but the footage and autofocus in this review is exceptional. I am surprised. So much so that most will forgive it the overheating in oversampled mode once clog 3 comes in.
  21. Solid IBIS. No overheating experienced at 4k 24p (shot over an hour). 30 minutes for 4k60p before overheating.
  22. It is a good image. I think you would have to be a bit deluded not to think that. That was never gonna be the problem with this camera. With clog 3 it will punch above its weight-class in terms of image and resolution like the s1h. However, file sizes and codec is an issue for all these japanese cameras once we start getting into better quality codecs and higher frame rates. These companies are just too conservative to give us anything of worth or to innovate like braw. So they'll just give you bumps to the specs year on year, which is the name of the game. In terms of a pure hybrid camera, nothing beats the r5 at the moment, but the question is whether it is worth it price given it is in effect a 4k 30p camera, which can use other modes on a limited basis.
  23. This will make it quite expensive I'm afraid. But if they give the right combination at the right price, it should blow the competition out of the water. I have high hopes and might look to add one to my 6k, which is already camera enough for me! Really, if they just fixed the useability of the 6k for a little more price I think most people would be thrilled, seeing as that camera's image and workflow are soooo good. But at the same time, most people have figured out ways to overcome the 6ks deficiencies and don't need a FF sensor. The DR and low light for the pocket are already good enough.
  24. I doubt Andrew would be so vociferous just based on an assumption, seeing as short films, music videos etc are all done at 24/25p. There must be some more info out there that I haven't seen.
