  1. I do this with all cameras, it makes video so easy! I set it to m-fn, then you can just hit the button once & it switches. Used to keep it on a locked set of settings, but now I have it auto update which seems best
  2. That would make sense, I did read something on very early Toronto, where they used photographs to make political points in the 1800's? Basically, they viewed it strictly as a tool & used it politically more than others. Then it wasnt until the 1970s that it was viewed more as an art form.
  3. I don't think so; he started being really extra irritating and nasty to everyone, Andrew was about to ban him. Andrew asked if we think he should ban him, some of us said no and he started being more rational, then stopped posting. He got called out for some really weird comments about filming underaged girls and wanting to share the footage (in a joking manner?). I gave him the benefit of the doubt, but you never know. None of us probably actually know him, we likely do not know his intents. He created a toxic environment and derailed threads from my perspective, but I bet he has helped some people at some point lol. On 10/17/2018 at 9:53 AM, Andrew Reid said: "So whilst @jonpais is calling EOSHD "fake news" and telling me how to run the site, perhaps he should realise one thing. I am a bit disappointed by his remarks. All the squabbling on the forums over the past few months from him and the Sony fanboyism in every subject, treating some threads like his own private inbox for chats and arguments, all leave a bitter taste for me because he's a long-time member. He seems to have gone from productive posting in the early days of the forum about Panasonic, up through being rewarded by being promoted to a mod, back down to being a non-mod due to bad behaviour, and now he's cruising for a bruising or even a ban. I just find that incredibly self destructive." Andrew is quite articulate, summed it up pretty good.
  4. I noticed the majority of the photo & video creators I watch on social media, (YT/IG) that have large followings with good content are Canadian. Same goes with when I watch indie movies/documentaries and look into the crew. I have nothing against them in any way, I am just curious as to why this seems to be the case. I know there are many beautiful places in Canada that could inspire people to create, but that could be said about lots of areas in the world. Is there any data on this, or social research in general? I will be really jealous if they had videography as a core requirement for their public schooling lol.
  5. There is a huge difference between the canon 1080p & even their own 4k. The canon 1080p looks so mushy, especially when shooting foliage (outdoors). Things that are closer up, like people, it's not as noticable. Click on the photos and you can see how gross it is lol. A canon rep did a video showcasing that the S35 mode on the eos r, is supersampled and it looks extremely good. Try that mode out, you will be surprised at the quality. The normal canon 1080p is just upressed 720p lol. Eos R 4k only IPB Eos R 1080
  6. I thought it was andrew complaining about that. I saw a few reviews when I was looking into the Z cameras and that's what I found while researching. Could make sense though if they were pixel binning, they would have to try to bring up the detail again.
  7. It does it with pixel binning or line skipping I heard. Also extreme internal over sharpening, even when set to the lowest (can't say for sure, dont have the camera)
  8. I see him everywhere instigating & acting like he didnt do anything. Here you can see him telling someone to go do drugs & liquor. That person called for people to calm down & stop attacking everything (sony fan boys on z7 vid). Btw: You can read his recommendations on torture porn at his website... https://jonpais.wordpress.com/2012/02/17/torture-porn-for-the-discerning-moviegoer/
  9. I think you misunderstood the sentiment. I am saying it's sad that 3 years later, Andrews points on sony & canon are the same. They havent fixed our complaints. Yes, the 1dx ii still has the same good image, but it's annoying they havent put it in smaller form factor with clog. It is also surprising that sonys color still looks like what he pointed out. Everyone laughs at canon right now, but people are comparing new sensors being released by sony, canon hasnt released a new one in 3 years. The 1dx ii was much better than the competition at the time (slight crop, no pixel binning, 4:2:2, low rolling shutter, 4k 60, amazing AF). It still is better for a final image imo. I think people will be very surprised when canon releases their new sensors & pro bodies, it will be expensive, but I wouldnt be surprised to see them be the first to do something like 4k 120p. Last thought: Even the newest sony cameras still overheat recording 4k, canon has said it can do fullframe 4k and ibis, but they aren't going to do it until there aren't overheating possibilities.
  10. Only had this 2nd xt3 for a day & have to RMA it. Hot pixel that is very noticeable even scaled way down (editing in premiere). Tried remapping many times & it's still there. Then I also have a very strong, weird smell coming from the camera when recording. It only takes a few seconds for it to stink, my $250 memory card smells away from the camera. Tried 2 different cards & both have the strong smell. I think something is frying itself lol. My first copy didn't have these issues; I dont know if I'll get another one. I like FF pictures & swap frequently, but this camera is still very good imo. It does show a little noise in flog (640 base iso), but it kind of looks like light film grain, same as my 1dx ii, easy to remove if wanted. Compared to the sony 4k or eos r 4k, this has very low rolling shutter like my 1d, so you can shoot with an unstabilized lens & just use warp stabilizer. Especially in 4k 60, you cant tell warp was used in most cases. Tried stabilizing some 4k eos r footage that I shot with the 24-105 IS & I cant use 80% of that footage because the RS.
  11. So, I honestly cannot figure out how to save all my video settings to different custom modes, like you can on most cameras. It only lets you designate the custom modes while doing still photos.. I have my 1d setup to change between 3 modes by hitting fn btn. It will cycle through 1080p 120p with proper shutter speed, same with 4k 24p/60p. I can quickly switch, if I can't accomplish the same thing on the fuji, it could take forever to setup everything swapping between different situations. Can't set flog to a button either, so I could check WB faster since it doesn't show anything but awb with natural view on (harder to accurately see with flat log alone).
  12. Not Jon, although... he took his rage to youtube comments ?
  13. Makes sense, thanks! I wish there was a way to slow down the AWB speed/sensitivity, it seems to jump all over most of the time. I have just been setting it manually or locking it when it looks good. Cheap & expensive canons seem to have a better algo for it, never had an issue there. That would be cool if fuji did an update to keep the 709 preview on while you record. Not surprising, but I found the AF to hunt more while shooting 4k 60p in h.265, did pretty good in 24p. I swear when I had the cam before, I could have focus peaking colors on during AFC? Maybe I am just thinking of a different camera
  14. I noticed on this second copy of the xt3, that I cannot get it to give me a preview of the WB adjustments until I take a photo or start a video? Makes it impossible to adjust wb accurately. Like I mentioned before, its AWB is unreliable and changes frequently.
  15. That photo had tons of light on the Sony, you can even see lots of detail in the trees (shadows) before raising exposure, compared to the original example I gave. But I know you were hung up on the iso 2500 thing, here is a 1DX ii shot at ISO 5,000 with almost NO light, shot at night. Like I mentioned, I don't push shadows past +2 stops 99% of the time, but I said that I saw colors in the shadows at 1-1.5 stops on That sony img. I see it at less with the eos r (dumpster fire). BTW, I said Chroma Noise, do you know what that is? ? Pushed to 4.5 stops like I did on the sony, don't see any chroma noise or banding and I have never seen posterization or artifacts in any of my 1D pictures. Don't know why people think sony is infallible?
  16. I can shoot at 2500 iso or higher on the 1DX & don't see that? I don't always have time to setup a tripod if its slightly too dark, I might be snowmobiling or something for hours and won't carry one every time. Downloaded tons of raws over the last day and imported in sporadic batches, not saving to a specific folder so I didn't really keep track of everything in lightroom. I did see chroma noise at base iso as well, I will go try to find them again sometime, deleted most after seeing posterization.. Didn't know this was a thing, until I was seriously considering the purchase to do larger prints. Just google A7Riii/A7Rii chroma noise or "colored noise/color speckle", lots of stuff on it apparently. Didn't read much of the thread I linked (did see chroma noise @iso 100 in the sky on his), there are many like it I came across. Not trolling, I said the 5DS/EOS R are not up to the standards I am looking for and even linked an example of the EOS R taking a crap lol. I think the Fuji GFX 50 series cameras look good from the raws I went through, not sure if I want to drop 10k on it with lenses though. A7Riii was just a little mod to the Rii; I expect the A7RIV will release this year and will be the best sensor for awhile.
  17. I was looking to get an A7Riii for my landscape stuff, since they are so cheap now and I want to do a few prints (mostly do online content). I downloaded some raw files and I was getting dejavu of my freaking eos r I had. I started seeing chroma noise in the shadows at even +1 stops in a few shots (mostly shooting towards bright light source). I also had some weird stuff happen when color grading one of them for fun & the clouds turned into f!$@ing cartoons! Looked like low bit depth on the clouds, don't know how that's possible? I exaggerated the color grade a little bit to show you what was happening (balloon img). Then I saw some odd artifacts randomly in a few shots, looked like that star eater problem, but just on a city shot (brighter lights). I don't see these problems on my 1DX ii? Should I just get the new Fuji medium format for landscape work? Disappointed in the files I messed around with on the A7riii... it seemed to do much worse past base iso when working with the photo too (compared to 1DX ii). I had googled the Chroma Noise thing and saw some odd stuff that dpreview people post. One guy states a ton of stuff I didn't bother to read, he says that the dual pixels are better than the "dummy" sony ones.. Don't know if I believe that lol. Does anyone actually know about this stuff? https://***URL removed***/forums/thread/4347344?page=4#forum-post-62042172 Not trying to hate on Sony, I just want to find something that performs like the 1DX ii has for me, but with more MP. I know the 5DS/5DS R exist, but they don't have the iso performance I would want. Seriously looks like a classic 5D IV or Medium format for what I want? D850 is supposed to be good, but I don't want to buy Nikon Glass; Sorry Nikon, I don't have faith in you lol. 1DX ii similar situational shot 1DX ii + 5 stops exposure 90% zoom (I don't push that far under normal use) A7riii untouched img A7riii + 4.5 Stops Exposure 80% or so zoom (I saw the Chroma at +1.2 stops) A7riii weird handling of highlights when grading (never seen this on any camera, Balloon is fine still) Eos R +2 Stops Exposure (look at color bands through shadows and even middle of frame on lighter section)
  18. I shoot flog & use luts I made in premiere pro
  19. Thanks, I was just testing settings. I should have edited everything while I had my winter break for 2 weeks haha. It's been around 0 degrees fahrenheit for the last few weeks, so I haven't flown the drone, I need one more shot ?
  20. It matches the feel I want with the mavic 2 pro. Quick sample of what I have been messing around with, haven't done too much adjusting yet. 2 stills from my timeline when I was just doing a quick test. Xt3 clip was directly into the sun & subject moving at 24p so not as sharp as it can be (flog > logc > arri709). Mavic 2 pro clip at 1600ft dlog > 709 24p. I am trying to decide if I should keep shooting in 4096 x 2160 on the fuji, when I am integrating mavic 2 pro footage. I have to crop in 6.7% on the mavic footage to a 4096 x 1716 timeline. I lose 25% resolution conforming the fuji cinema 4k to 3840 x 1600. Makes most sense to film both at 3840 x 2160 and conform to 3840 x 1620 since the framing is the same on the mavic regardless, just no loss of 6.7% resolution. I am thinking about using a 2:1 to retain more of the vertical resolution I need with the drone shots. Not sure yet what aspect ratio I will use, I am stuck with a cinema 4k on the 1DX, but some options here.
  21. By the way: I heard that you can fix the 4k crop issue with the new firmware by setting hdmi out to flog and using flog internally. I don't have the camera on me right now so I can't see.
  22. Yeah, it took me a bunch of trial & error to get it to match up right, but it does make a great starting point to grade. The blacks dont look as stressed when raising them, compared to eterna. It must be their flog crushing them a bit.
