I did this in 1080p 24p with a sigma 35mm 1.4 @ f2. It wasnt terrible until low light, then I saw lines in the sidewalk jumping around. Let's be honest, canon has 720p upscaled to 1080p? Lol I dont want to reduce that res any more than it is. What is the eos r 120p 720p? Upscale 480p? Haha. In 2019, I really dont care to shoot in 1080p now, it's so mushy in outdoor scenes. I think it's fine for a talking head vlog sequence, but not much else. Most people probably wont even know if a quick talking head shot on an airplane, was filmed on a phone or an m50 etc.

Not into rich guys?

It kills the 1dx ii footage in dynamic range and you can actually do a professional grade without the footage falling apart. 1dx ii lacks log & 10 bit color. I under expose quite a bit with the 1dx to protect highlights, that works most of the time, but there are many situations where it just cant handle it & you get that "DSLR look". I shoot a lot of outdoor/mountain stuff, it is nice to be able to reduce certain colors saturations & luminosity without blocking. The "log alternative" profiles have been proven to not actually improve DR, they infact are just destructive to the IQ. For example: I shot a bright morning scene with a few different ones & it caused uncorrectable banding in the highlights. If the 1dx had even just a true log profile, I would keep it forever. That being said, I noticed the flog being really flat compared to clog for example, not sure if I like it on skin. Using the 709 luts fuji has on their site, I think women with makeup on can look a little cartoonish if you dont add in a bunch of contrast. I would like a slightly less flat log profile sometimes. The eterna lut is decent, but I think it has the tendency to crush blacks a bit & push whites. I prefer manually grading the log or converting to the arri. Oh yeah; manually set your wb indoors with this camera. It does the sony thing where it will jump to extreme yellow once in awhile. At least you can correct it with the 10 bit though ?

How was it possible there have been no posts about this here?? 5DIV is up & running with magic lantern raw?!

Canon continues to play the hot girl that won't give you any, unless you are loaded. Instead she gave you her less attractive, crippled sister (eos r), while she chases your rich cousin.

Not an eos r fan really, but I saw a detailed video (dont remember where) & the guy showed that you need to do at least +3 sharpness in clog 4k. Otherwise it is so soft, you cant fix in post. Something odd happening there.

That YT video isn't mine, it is a Russian guy who made it with the kit lens. I said I will make one soon hopefully haha. My footage has been very impressive when colorgrading in just premiere, I cant believe how far you can push it.

This camera is hilariously good for the price, kills my 1dx ii 4k. Just not as good of AF, use it like a MF cinecam anyway lol. I will make a video with it soon, I can't believe how good the files are from it.

Canon EOS R first impressions - INSANE split personality camera
Snowbro replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
One thing I haven't seen a fix for yet, is the random disappearance of all information/focusing square on the screen/evf. Many people have reported it, I even called canon and told them in October. It will vanish for up to 12 seconds, then come back. I usually just would turn the camera off and on again. The rolling shutter in 4k really kills it, even if you use their new 24-105 with IS @24mm, it is quite noticeable. Tripod camera with 4k shooting. I also had 2 white hot pixels on my 4k footage from NYC, that was irritating. The usability of the camera is quite annoying compared to any pro canon camera as well. I also found terrible color banding as early as 0.8 stops exposure increase that was very noticeable. Seems to happen more under artificial lighting, I would say that around 85% of my images were completely unaffected by banding. That being said; I will probably end up buying one again until they release the pro mirrorless body. The 1080p 60p is very ugly IMO, but the 24p in 1080 & 4k is beautiful. Having a second body to my 1DX is nice and it takes good enough photos for travel. I cannot stress how much I hate using the 1DX in public, especially on a gimbal, it draws so much unwanted attention. In my home state, I can carry a pistol & it is quite common, so the chances of being robbed are extremely low. When I fly to other states, I do not have that luxury, been stalked many times with the 1DX out, zero with smaller cameras haha. Just don't expect to film everything in 4k (especially on the go) & bracket high contrasting scenes, then you'll be fine with this small camera. -
Haha, camera gear is still cheaper than a wife!

I heard that your wife refuses to give you food unless you gain rep points, is this fact or rumor?

That is hilarious that it takes a S#$! when using log. 1DXii: "The tables have turned, if I can't use Log, neither can you!"

He was doing it in much lower light than this video. I watched a handful of z7/z6 videos and they all struggled in low light with af

Can see it jump a lot in first clip, especially around 1:37. That's what I always encounter on the non dpaf systems, yeah it works, but sometimes it jumps around all nasty. It's not just a little mistake, it jumps equivalent to dozens of feet off, then back fast.

1DX ii has two DIGIC 6+ processors, 5D has one

They probably could have used some scotch tape

The k versions are unlocked for overclocking. You would be fine with the locked version though, still fast. A macbook pro is terrible for video editing vs. a desktop PC for the same price.

Never overestimate adobe's optimization

I like your work on DP review ?

I edit on 3 Samsung 2TB m.2 SSD drives. I then have 2 conventional Samsung 4TB SSD's and 4 Western Digital 6TB drives. After I am done editing and want to archive, I copy stuff over to the HDD's. Also have the i7-8700k running watercooled at 5Ghz, I haven't had issues editing 10 bit h.265 on the m.2 drives and this setup.

I agree. You can actually do some decent things for the price with the osmo pocket if you feed it good light. For what you want to do, I would probably get a slider & good monopod like someone mentioned. 100% handheld with the best stabilization on the market will still not look how you want most likely.

I mean.. technically you could get a gopro hero 7 for that price lol

Pretty sure I have read Canons cine cameras in S35 are around 1.45-1.5x crop, not 1.6x. 1.6x is their apsc crop. So that is a good difference from 1.75x. I loved my 16mm turning into about 30mm on the eos r lol. How the hell do you get a wide shot on that camera? Fisheye with no NDs? ?

I think I have figured it out; it mostly is the people who can only buy a certain camera for specific reason, whether that is money or lens collection anchors. They have to convince themselves that what they purchased, is the correct choice. I took a marketing class from a retired executive that worked at Coca Cola, Disney, P&G; he said people vote with their wallets. They have to justify any purchase that they make. This will then help you understand why people behave as rabid as they do about politics, they voted on their gear. It seemed to be well known that the Nikon mirrorless cameras had problems focusing in low light. Since day 1 of them being shown, then that sentiment started to dwindle. Probably because the only people still talking about them, were Nikon users. I have found the same thing that you have with Sony & Fuji, pertaining to video AF. No one really believes me, but like you said, they haven't tried a 1DX II, they have no idea. It just works, you don't have to think about it, I can rely on it in a professional setting, where I wouldn't dare do anything but MF with other cameras. I truly hope that the camera companies push each other and they all catch up on AF/Color/IBIS/IQ etc. That will only benefit us all in the end.
