  1. C'mon, guys.. Digging up a 2.5-years old thread?
  2. I used to own the Zonlai 22/1.8 for Sony E. Really enjoyed using it. The photos had a very good contrast, saturation (without any cast) and sharpness. The only downside for me was a short focus throw between 1m and inifinty, so it was quite difficult to nail the sharpness.
  3. Me? I haven't used any anamorphic scope, yet. Waiting for my Ultra Star to come.
  4. Yep, these are his creations. This is one of the best videos showcasing what one can achieve with 1.33x Vormax: https://youtu.be/PGLDbRXRHks I've never had any of his lenses, but I've done some research on them. Edges are soft due to spherical aberration, there is a lot of blue/yellow chromatic aberration, center is quite sharp from f/2.8. But there are some pros, too. They're focus through, which means you don't have to double focus; they're not that heavy - no need for rigging your setup; price!
  5. We'll never know unless one of us actually buys it. ( : But pay 400$ for something that may prove to be a scam..? I guess I'm not that desperate. Yeah, import charges and shipping itself are cruel. I live in Europe, too.
  6. There are, but then you need to double focus. Firstly, your taking lens, then the anamorphic lens. It's quite a pain in the long run. Their next FVD batch is due by the end of November. Not sure about their fb page, but their own website works good.
  7. I'm not quite sure what to think of them, to be honest. If they cost 100-200$, then I'd say go for it, but they're usually listed for at least 400$. At this price point, I'd prefer buying FVD16A from Rapido which sells for 550$.
  8. If we could use our Android devices as external monitors, I'd be more than pleased. However, I don't know any solution that works. LukiLink is a major disappointment, but kudos to them for even trying to do something. Like I said in other thread, iOS users at least have the FieldMonitor app, which is a really neat thing.
  9. You could give 'FieldMonitor' a try. It's available on AppStore.
  10. The only unknown is the white balance on both cameras. Sean mentioned using a white card to properly set it, but this doesn't have to mean that it was set the same. Besides, have anyone heard about this C / M / Y correlation regarding skin tones?
  11. Would you be as kind as to share some sample footage? I was looking for an external monitor, maybe I'll go for Ninja V instead.

Nice images! I started my love relationship with Helios (I also have the 44-4) about a year ago, when I paired it with a6000. 1.5x crop gave me a 87mm FOV, which was very useful. What I enjoy most about it is its build quality. The focusing ring works smoothly but with enough resistance.

I cropped in post. That's right, I love this feature and use it regularly. Shame it can't be used to crop RAWs in-camera (Sony JPEGs are not my thing) - it'd greatly help me compose photos the moment I take them. Right now I'm not entirely sure, how the image will look like after I crop it in post.

I was on a lookout for a quite compact and bright 35mm for my A7. Sammy 35/2.8 is perfect, but its rather slowish aperture often forced me to use high ISO in low-light scenarios. Native 35/1.4 lenses for Sony E would be nice, if not for their size and weight. Can't imagine myself walking around with these cannons on my neck. So I browsed the internet and found out that Samyang 35/1.2 (meant for mirrorless APS-C cameras) covers full frame quite nicely. I wouldn't be me if I didn't test it, therefore I rented one today. Here are my results: The 1st and 2nd photos were not cropped at all, the 3rd and 4th were cropped vertically just a little. All of them shot at f/1.2 To remove the most noticeable vingnetting, an uniform 1.1x crop would do. 1.2x to remove it completely. The next 6 photos are comparisons between 35/2.8 at f/2.8 and 35/1.2 at f/1.2 35/1.2 seems to be a tiny bit wider than 35/2.8. All in all, in my opinion this little lens is quite useable. Definitely not for images that require corner-to-corner sharpness, but for a fast walk-around glass - why not?
  15. Stumbled upon this reddit post today. Love the results - definitely worth looking at if you crave for an analogue feel.
  16. Had a pleasant walk today. A couple of screen grabs. S-Log2, S-Gamut3.cine + Resolve. FE50/1.8
  17. @webrunner5, I tend to disagree. Just like Bioskop.Inc said: There is so much more that lens gives apart from perspective. Color renderition, micro contrast (or lack of it), flares, etc.
  18. Our @Tito Ferradans published a video yesterday, in which he shares his results with Phantom LUTs. They take S-Log footage and give a Rec709 Alexa-like results. Have anyone, apart from Tito, tried them?
  19. Just stop looking for a 'better camera'. There will always be a new one, just around the corner with better specs, etc. You've already got one of the best consumer cameras available. Go and enjoy it.

To be honest, I really prefer my 58/2 Helios over 50/1.8 Sony. Maybe it's just 8mm, but it feels much more natural to me.

The worst thing is that since the lens doesn't provide any EXIF data, the thief can freely take pictures with it, share it on a web and nobody will be able to pinpoint him.

Here is a Philip Reeve's look at the Viltrox lenses I mentioned earlier: https://phillipreeve.net/blog/photokina-recap-part-1-viltrox-e-mount-lenses/ Things aren't looking as good as they seemed to in the SAR post. MF 85/1.8 is to be more expensive (300$ vs 200$), 20/1.8 will cost even more (489$). And the AF version of 85/1.8 will only come in Fuji Mount (?) at the price of 379$. I guess Sony FE 85/1.8 is still the choice.

Actually, the 40/1.8 for Canon EF Mount is really tiny! https://www.photographyblog.com/news/reflex_40mm_f_1_8_lens_hands_on_photos

More manual E-Mount lenses announced. 24/1.8, 40/1.8, 75/1.8 ~400$ each. At least these are lighter. https://www.sonyalpharumors.com/reflex-announces-the-new-40mm-f-1-8-75mm-f-1-8-and-24mm-f-1-8-full-frame-e-mount-lenses/

Yeah, that's right. Let's hope they deliver a good quality image.
