  1. The value isn't there in that lenses that were once ridiculously affordable are now not at all affordable. It's not an indication of their quality, it's that for many of us the initial appeal was how cheap they were to buy. You could create a set for a couple hundred dollars, now you can't. Are they worth what they're going for now? Most are, but now they're out of a lot of budget filmmakers price ranges. It's only gotten more so since they're getting snapped up by companies that re-house them into cine lenses and charge an even greater premium for them. The market has sadly shifted from empowering budget filmmakers to being mostly for those that have a lot of money.
  2. He'll be missed very much. He was so articulate, informative, and he never fell into the click bait trap that has ensnared so many others. Someone said he was the Bob Ross of M43 and he really was. I hope that those that haven't seen or read his stuff take the time to check it out. He was very passionate about it all.
  3. David Thorpe passed away on May 25th. For those that aren't familiar, David was a huge proponent of M43 and shared his love of photography on his blog and YouTube channel. A message from his family can be read in the description of this video: His channel is well worth checking out. He was a very thoughtful reviewer. His blog is also excellent: https://m43blog.dthorpe.net/
  4. They already have this. I imagine it'll work with the GH6 too.

    S1H ii

That site is run by 43rumors so they're fairly reliable, though that L2 rating means it's from a unverified source. The S1H still feels fairly new, so I'm not sure that it'll be coming within the next year. That seems awfully fast. I wish there was a way to gauge how well their full frame cameras have done. That would be my primary concern when it comes to going that route; is it a healthy system to invest in? Will it be around for a long time?
  6. The shallow DOF WAS ridiculous but overall I'm not sure what people were expecting from the film. It was meant to be dumb fun and it was pretty successful at it. My biggest complaint was they didn't make better use of the Vegas premise. With all the other nonsensical stuff, that there wasn't a brightly colored scene on the Vegas strip at night with all the lights going and just utter total mayhem happening is inexcusable.
  7. The reactions I've seen have been interesting. Mostly positive. I've even seen some A7siii users talking about moving back (TL;DR Filmmaker on YouTube for example talked about it.) It was very, very strange to see Toneh Northrup give the GH5ii a glowing review (he recommended it for YouTubers!) and had positive words for the GH6. Odd given he has spent the last 3 years being doom and gloom about M43. I'm still cautiously optimistic about the GH6. I don't want to get too excited, but I think they've got something up their sleeve. There's been a lot of praise about the GH5ii's video auto focus in higher frame rates, which makes me wonder if this new processor might be the key to unlocking more reliable AF for lower frame rates since it seems that the more data it has to use the better the AF is. A powerful enough processor could possibly translate that to better AF for lower frame rate recording, and perhaps add some other improvements that makes that $2500 price tag make more sense.
  8. I find it hard to believe that they're going to charge $2500 based only on what they announced today. Maybe I'm wrong, but I suspect there will be quite a few features that will help justify the higher price tag. I could be totally wrong though.
  9. I understand what you're saying but there's still very little known about the camera. Maybe they'll surprise us?
  10. I'm guessing they don't want to pay the licensing fee, so they let Atomos eat that expense and they can reap the "benefit." I just don't understand the logic behind getting these small, lightweight cameras and then putting a recorder on top of it. I'm glad it's an option but it's really not something that I want to deal with.
  11. We don't really know enough about the GH6, but 5.7k 60p and 4K 120p are both great. I'd wait before calling it underwhelming.
  12. Some real positives here. I feel better, though obviously I'd have loved more information. The stream mentioned they're targeting the GH6 for $2500, which I expected but also was hoping they'd go closer to $2000 to $2200. Kinda bummed that the 12-35mm and 35-100mm version 1 lenses won't be updated to support the new manual focusing features, since I have one of each. I'd love to be able to put down the change for the 10-25 and the 25-50 lenses but those prices are a bit hard to swallow.
  13. This is a nice surprise for those GH5s owners. Would've been cool if they pushed it to GH5 owners too, but I'm guessing they're saving that for the GH5ii.
  14. I like Scott's videos but he's one of those YouTubers that pretty much only reviews things sent to him for free, so it might be worth looking for other reviews. It does look like a pretty good option, but I'm just always skeptical until I see more reviews from people that don't have an incentive to give more favorable reviews.
  15. Indeed, some of those Chinese lenses are pretty good especially for the price. Vintage will always have a place and the prices may go down again eventually, but unless you're going for a specific look there are a lot of other options out there these days. To be fair a lot of vintage lenses are worth what they're going for today but they aren't such a clear cut choice when they're going for close to what you'd pay for a brand new Sigma lens. We were very spoiled there for awhile, able to buy great lenses for almost nothing, that's for sure!
  16. Prores is still much nicer to edit than .264 and .265. The quality gap has gotten smaller though, so I never bothered to get an external recorder for my GH5. Generally I hate external recorders anyway. Still I'd prefer ProRes over h.264/265, though I don't think we'll ever see it adopted by any of the major camera manufacturers due to licensing. As far as data size, have you considered ProRes LT?
  17. I used to be all about vintage lenses but these days the value isn't there as much. Seems most 50mm lenses are still pretty reasonably priced (I imagine because they're more plentiful), but a lot of other focal lengths have sky rocketed in price. I still keep my eyes open for bargains on Minolta lenses, since they're my favorite. I still use my 50mm 1.7 for portraits and for some interviews, since it's a 100mm equivalent on my GH5.
  18. My only guess is that it's meant as a lower cost entry while a GH6 will be the flagship entry? I'm not sure, honestly.
  19. Maybe there is hope? https://www.43rumors.com/ft3-there-is-hope-gh6-development-will-be-announced-tomorrow/ (FT3) There is hope: GH6 development will be announced tomorrow? UPDATE: I still cannot confirm if the announcement is happening tomorrow. That image you see on top is for the closed press event. Not sure if there will be some days of NDA before the actual public announcement! I still cannot confirm this via solid sources. But one source heard that Panasonic will announce the GH6 development along the new GH5II launch. If this is true it would lift a heavy weight from all of us that are disappointed with the GH5II. It would make indeed sense for Panasonic to offer an updated and affordable GH5II along a high end and more expensive GH6 camera. So let’s hope this one source isn’t wrong 😞
  20. Asked my buddy that makes docs and his response: Yes, it falls under fair use.
  21. I need unlimited recording for my work.
  22. Give me better ibis and no recording limits/overheating over 8K please.
