which side ?

procrastinate is the opposite to production, i should know, i'm awesome at it ? in reality, your better off walking away from such people. Sure you can win arguments or insult competitions but that doesn't win you any friends and you have no idea how far some people will go to get even. If your going to go through life being as petty as everyone else well its not going to be a walk in the park. Be the better person you will be rewarded further down the track.

I will now horrify some of you with a five letter word. That word is Gopro, if your offended you should look away now. A little while ago i bought the rage cam battery eliminator for the gopro4. I have had it a couple of weeks now, been considering it, the idea is good, however the implementation of that idea is a bit ordinary. Rage cam solution to eliminating a battery is to supply you with an extra deep plastic back, that snaps on in place of the old back door. i have no issues with that. The issue is the cabling they supply, no matter how you wind it, fold it or arrange it. It doesn't sit flat or fold away inside that extra wide plastic back very neatly at all. Honestly i cant see how those connections are going to last any significant amount of time before they fail with the strain placed upon them. Some of the blame probably resides with gopro themselves that connection is too close to the edge as soon as you put in in a housing the plug won't fit, not without breaking out the dremel any way, which is what i have been doing this afternoon. My intention is to have two housings, one water resistant the other a simple alloy frame. the standard plastic housing with the modified back will be used out doors when getting it wet would be a concern. the alloy housing for when i'm not so worried about water and maybe heat might be a concern. the standard housing usually has the letus anamorphic mounted to it, i took it off this afternoon to investigate how i might easily mount it to the alloy housing. Heres a bunch of photos so you can see what i'm up too. I have started removing material away from the edge of the alloy frame however i need to proceed slowly as i'm going to have about 1mm left i think on the back piece that slides into the frame.

made some time today for the p4k tripod base i have working towards. Had some 3mm brass rod turn up in the mail. It seems the holes in the bottom of the p4k are a little bigger than the 3mm i thought they were, maybe 3.2. there was a little wiggle room, which was what i was trying to avoid in the first place. by happenstance hitting a center punch to expand the base of the brass rod in the bottom of the alloy plate to get a nice tight fit, flattened the top of the brass rod for a snug fit into the p4k holes. I didn't even need to file anything down either. I'm nearly as handy with a hammer as thor ? I have yet to countersink a hole for the tripod bolt to sit flush maybe tomorrow. then i have to recess the alloy plate into the plastic base i have made earlier

while practice does indeed make perfect, its a bit presumptuous to say go hard or go home. not all people have the time or inclination to do all of that and there are probably some people with a disability that have Buckley's chance of holding a camera steady yet have as much right to a camera as i have. If a camera has tech that can make life easier for someone with a disability or a need, go for it i say, i wouldn't look down on someone for that. We all buy different cameras for different reasons and needs, who am i to judge if someone wants ibis

how can i say it, what would we be without honesty ?

maybe post a frame or two, or even a few seconds, perhaps some of the more experienced members may be able give you some tips about salvaging your footage.

from what little i have read on this forum a few people aren't that impressed with the colour casts you get with variable nd. How big an issue it is i don't know but i'll take their word for it. Anyone feel free to comment if that hasn't been your experience and it can be noted on the forum for posterity. i'd certainly like to hear peoples experiences. Personally i have shied away from variable nd, i bought a cheap set of nd filters. They may be just as bad as one variable nd if i'm completely honest, time and some more experimenting will tell. the most positive thing i can say at this point was that i got a whole bunch of step up rings and a holder pretty cheap. In future i can just buy a proper nd filter and slot it in. thats my 2 cents worth. i wouldn't just rely on just one reviewer or blogger either, better to get a few opinions, less chance of being disappointed

thats clever cingain ? i'm guessing you weren't a fan ?

whats the quality from the new 11 like ? a quick google reckons that the ten isnt king of the hill anymore. how true that is i dont know. However when the contract is up on my current phone i'll be looking for something that is pretty respectable camera and video wise.
-
get an extra phone mount, the next video challenge might be some kind of phone challenge if you have a spare holder you'll be ready. i already have mine prepared, just in case ( see what i did there ?)

ok then, have a nice break. I wish you well in your endeavors

i talked to a rep at the company yesterday, they have maybe a dozen left after they are sold, that will be it. no further batches will be produced i'm thinking of getting another for my gopro 6, just have to figure out a way to mount it.

i hope i don't upset the apple cart too much .... but people dished the p4k for its looks, but to to me at least the p4k had some resemblance to a camera, this looks like the borg designed it. but each to their own. If you can get this then i wish you every success. i'll crawl back into the bm cave for now. ?

How many sales are Canon losing from enthusiasts due to video shenanigans?

What's your take on jumping between different aspect ratios in one video?
leslie replied to heart0less's topic in Cameras
i read your post, and at the start, i thought i hope this guy is joking? the web is responsible for some good things out there but adding black bars top and bottom just cheapens it for me. Just goes to prove you still need to filter lol. Admittedly you probably could throw some bars top and bottom on some footage and maybe i would be none the wiser. However that may depend on the content if i went back and watched the batman movie again now that someone has pointed it out i would probably notice it this time because i'd be watching out for it, but those youtubes that switch to different aspect ratios no attempt seems to be made to smooth the difference, and it just seems pretty jarring to me. Digressing momentarily Youtube is actually starting to tick me off. i have noticed lately they now seem to be playing two ads at the start of a video one you can click on to dismiss but one will play the whole way through. Its rapidly becoming like tv. Kaylee had a thread about monetizing a channel, and there was some talk about the monies been make have dropped off. Now with two ads at the start and ads inserted into the video it does seem like like youtube are glutinous in their appreciation of filthy lucre, for me its getting to the point id rather pay a fee to not watch advertising and get content that interests me. Heck some of that fee can even go back to content creators, it would be a win win. -

me neither, but i would have watched it before i found this site. i have learned a few things since then.Having said that, i do notice the ad changing aspect ratios on youtubes and to me its kinda jarring. one upside i can think of is that if ads are looking cinematic to sell stuff, i suspect a few people may catch on and we may see more stuff with cinematic aspect ratios produced which i think is a good thing -
thanks ironfilms i got a laugh out of that ? by the way thats not a cousin of yours breaking into the industry is it ?

same here roughly 40 mins however i did bump up the display to 100% yesterday in the afternoon sun for about 10 minutes. no idea if the battery meter went down any faster i wasn't watching that

there's a video challenge right there something along the lines of a sing along, you know... 99 bottles sitting on a wall . Plus you can always mix more water with it ?
-
With no video challenge at the moment that leaves me some time to invest so..... what are we doing again ?

great job, those are some lovely images. You make a strong case for the zhongyi

works been a bit slow which has constrained my purchases of late. I have bought a few cheaper items like some uv filters and a cheap hood for the tokina 28-70 some smaller step up rings for a project i have in mind but more about them once they turn up. i did get a hoya digital filter for the tokina. The interesting thing about that was i found a lens rental review on 21 different protective filters from 2017, some being uv, i guess most of you would have seen it however it was new to me. there's a link to it here for those that want to peruse it. https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2017/06/the-comprehensive-ranking-of-the-major-uv-filters-on-the-market/ ots. i probably need some time with full sun to compare filter verse non filter. Its spring in a couple of days here and the first flowers on the stonefruit are out.
