i went with j and j. In the gunpowder shot, i just like the moodiness or darker frame. I have a natural preference for a low key image i think. The lake scene because i had already gone for j kinda predetermined a vote except i did a goldilocks thing and decided i was too little and k was too much j was just right. i didnt do a 2nd or third place. from a newbies perspective i think that perhaps a lot of people from this forum probably made a science experiment out of it and literally tore those images apart. however i suspect a lot of people that watch mattias's channel are a bit like me and picked images they like without too much analysis which is why j and j won. it is a bit embarrassing i have the bmp4k camera and i like it. but it didn't pick it in the contest. Don't worry i'm not that distressed, that theres going to be a bmp4k on ebay anytime soon ? I also watched it in 1080 on a laptop. With a pretty average internet connection and download plan 4k seems a little excessive too me. So i get by on hd when i can. not sure if watching it in 4k would have made a difference and going back to do it again maybe camera choice would change but then i know more now than i did before so its not that relevant and the results biased. thanks for the test matthias and the others for their input i learned a couple of things which i guess is what its all about

ok just worked out you can upload straight to eoshd without going to vimeo or youtube so with out further ado 1x 1080 uncompressed ,not down cownverted from 4k, ungraded blue sky and 1 dng still new_blue.mov A001_06271201_C019_000004.dng

regarding the macro blocking, its been quite sunny today. i took the bmp4k outside and shot some blue skies about 14 seconds worth, its ungraded, unedited. what sort of file sizes are you guys looking for to test video at ? i can upload it and supply a link, i figure you guys can play with it and break it if you want see whether macro blocking is an issue with an original 6.1 camera or not. i personally dont really know what im doing as yet but i can supply the footage at least i guess.

more experimenting shows that sometimes movies or dng image sequences with show as thumbnails and in preview, however its hit and miss. the first two folders i click on show as picture thumbnails however nothing after that i click on displays as pictures its really quite bizarre. more googling and experimenting to do it seems. i should add 8 month old i5 core, windows 10, dell laptop, not sure if that helps narrow it down or not, cant see how it makes a difference myself. it is rather peculiar.

well another week has passed... went to the funeral of a good friend, someone i had grown up with and and a person i held in high regard, he unlike me, worked in the video industry . the only reason i am sharing this is 1 its made me reevaluate things. The dreaded bowl cancer got him. My dad had, and survived bowl cancer and is still going. Which has made me abit more astute when it comes to health concerns. however somethings can creep up on you regardless, so take care of yourselves. Work is good for paying the bills, but you need a hobby i reckon something to entertain you. If you can combine the two ( work and enjoyment) thats awesome but not everyone gets to live the dream i think. 2 I'm a christian and i do believe better days are coming, not sure when, but its not something i got any input on so i'm not worrying about it. Because of my beliefs it doesn't really bother me much if i don't leave much of a legacy either. In the meantime i want to better utilize the time that i have doing the things that interest me..So sorry for the preamble and with out further ado lets get back into it. this might tickle someones funny bone but i had had a bit of an issue with dng files or more to the point seeing thumbnail of dng's in windows 10 file explorer. googling dng in file explorer tells me that i should be able to see dng's natively and in windows photo as well... hmm no thumbnails regardless of what i try,no, nope, nada, zip. About an hour spent looking for an answer led me to this page https://forums.adobe.com/thread/2378867 which has a link to the dng codec 2.0 installer. which works flawlessly once you have rebooted, now i can see and preview dng's in file explorer just like jpegs. totally awesome. why it doesn't work as it should is beyond me and it seems like adobe has hidden the answer as well as the first link i tried was broken however more digging lead me to the above link which worked for me. Of course some of you would just just chime in with, if i would just upgrade to braw i wouldn't have this issue and you would be right. But for me if it aint broke dont fix it and sorry to bmd however you sent me the camera like this and at this point i not really interested in upgrading it, maybe in the future maybe not will see how things progress. EDIT Upon further exploring (no pun intended ) windows 10 file explorer displays dng stills i have taken on the bmp4k however if i click on a dng from an image sequence or movie i shot with the bmp4k it doesn't display them, Not sure what the difference is between a still shot on the bmp4k and a movie dng. can anyone enlighten me ?

OEM CPU overclocking support equivalent in the photography market

i am reminded of a quote ... a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. if it were safe easy and cheap not to mention lightweight and practical i think cameras would already have water cooling. Some people already put peltiers on their cameras for astro photographgy and kudos to them for doing it. however companies put electronics and motors inside metal and plastic boxes for a couple of good reasons 1. they tend to work longer when protected from the elements. 2 it stops people from sticking their fingers in there. When you do stick your fingers in there it usually proves detrimental to both human and machine, camera, or whatever 3 who decides what is safe to experiment on and what is not safe. Hospitals are already full of people who have had accidents, even professionals come unstuck at times and you want anyone who can watch youtube to play with water, drills and electricity ? sir i commend you, out standing line of thought, if your into population control ? by the way i have magic lantern installed on my canon and its fantastic for what it does. is it for every mom and dad ? probably not. While we are talking about ml and canon. If those two did join forces together, canons whole product line could probably be reduced to three cameras, the competition would be slaughtered and canon would rule the world, would canon make more money as opposed to splitting cameras and crippling said cameras into a hundred different segments probably not Would i play with 12 volts and Arduino's ? hell yes. Would i pull a camera flash apart or play with mains line voltage? HELL NO i genuinely like living ? -
I bought pd as well then the next day they upgraded it and no reasonable priced uprade path except full price. I quite liked it but then the p4k arrived with resolve. I'll be sticking to resolve unless they go subscription based. ?

Find the best video quality for under $200 - fun challenge

The idea is good, I think you mean a 35mm dof adapter? There's been three on eBay but the price of each of them kills the idea of a cheap lens I think. -

On it already, but not a Panasonic. Just need some luck to go my way -
So i have been thinking... some of you no doubt, are thinking i wish he wouldn't do that. i feel for you i really do ? Moving right along i was wondering besides being filmmakers, directors and even actors, has anyone been involved in set design or building ? i am wondering if there is enough interest for a thread on it. As for myself it interests me, i'd be grateful for any tips hints, shortcuts you have learnt over the years and wish to share. i have watched some youtubes on set building but i wonder if you guys have anything that you would like to contribute I also have a question, if i had a room and wished for it to appear longer or more spacious perhaps. Apart from building it bigger in the first place is there any tricks that can be used to make it appear so ? i was thinking mirrors maybe but then camera angles and reflections come into play i guess.

not sure how i missed it till now but i liked it. i really like how it seemed to breathe at times. That was cool. Been thinking of doing something similar and trying flares as well. I'd becareful of breathing that stuff in however. No telling how toxic that smoke is and its better safe than sorry .

there's been some great advice from you guys especially andrgl your insight is quite enlightening. The one thing that ticks me off is the like and subscribe moment in pretty much every video. I know there's been fair amount of time spent making and uploading a video and we all know everyone is after every like and subscribe they can get, but asking people to like or subscribe comes across as needy or desperate or even tacky at times, to me anyway. If you can come across as not being needy you'll do alright i think. When you make the video of washing the pup try to catch him shaking all that water off in glorious slow motion then mix it up a bit with a segment of some kind like howto clip a dogs toenails properly something like that. like others have said give people some great footage of fido running through the forest when you get him home twist it to what ever brush you use to clean him up and flog it or link to it maybe even try approaching the brush manufacturers. Hmm i think i can see a pup in my future ?

how does the fd modification work ? my understanding is the flange distance is the issue and most of the mods have to include some glass to correct the problem. To get around that would include major surgery and a large pile of coins right ? btw i dont see any tint at this end from your pics maybe its your friends phone ?

i'll have a go, I do have a couple of questions. Such as software for creating content ? I assume since the creative side is being encouraged does what software is used count? i got a full version of resolve with the bmp4k ( obviously using the bmp4k is out of the question but what about resolve ? ) not sure what differences there are between the full version and the free version. Does using the full version give me an unfair advantage ? the reality being i know about 1/100th of what resolve can do but thats beside the point. i have an older camera that now retails for about $150 on ebay with a cheap m42 adapter and one of my pentax m42 lenses i should fit within the parameters stated, except the pentax 85mm 1.9, that one would take me over budget ? by the way are entries to be critiqued ? i'm open to the idea of learning but being ridiculed from one end of the internet to the other might not be much fun -
watching utube pretty much every one uses the mini muffin trays to cast lead ingots or alloy ingots. I think the king or random started it, but i ran with the herd anyway ? and it has been quite a learning experience. It seems like i have an interesting assortment of things that i want to do to tick of my bucket list ? i have an area set aside about 100 meters from the house for experiments and i'm pretty keen to keep them both separated don't worry about that

been a busy week. Got the tripod base cutout got two made. One has holes in it, the other is blank. got some ideas about milling out the perspex base i had made earlier and inserting the tripod base into it, kinda still at the ideas stage with it at the moment. I also picked up the last part for the anamorphic adapter. its kinda like a step up ring but more substantial it will take the weight of the anamorphic, but i do plan on using support anyway. Had the pentax m42 85mm 1.9 attached. I think its 58mm thread size. alignment was a little bit off when tightened up, thought about it for a bit then applied a rubber band to the rear of the anamorphic right where the threads end and put it all together tightens up quite nicely, seems to work as a temporary fix for now. This afternoon i found out i can melt lead and quite easily it seems. I used my gopro4 with a letus anamorphic lens attached, filmed some and then timelapsed the rest, yet to import it into resolve and have play with it. Hopefully its a little bit interesting. Had a lamb born about lunch time today, mom brought it up this afternoon, canon 60 d m42 50mm 1.4 lens. So there is a bit of a mix picture wise. enjoy

perhaps try maybe old railway tunnels except no real character to speak off. sometimes 4 wheel drive enthusiasts know of caves that aren't known to members outside of the club .the few caves i know about are quite shallow and have glow worms. think tourists by the bus load ? In a similar vein i bought 100 tea candles all i need now is a very still night and i'll find out how many candles to illuminate the bmp4k or i'll be building my own man cave ?

so the Bermuda triangle is the one that got away ?

ok so i have a video , its 3minutes and 44 seconds long 1920 x800 anamorphic. The file size is 277 megs. Pretty sure i clicked on the utube output button in resolve 15 . trying to upload it i get a time of about 14 hours to completion. Does that sound right ? or should i compress it further for a smaller file size ? not sure what the standard is. It could be i have a slow connection or too large a file or both. i did try to upload it but after a couple of hours the internet dropped out for about 4 hours so before i try again i'd like to know if i'm on the right track or should change something. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

yeah film has some charisma that digital cant replicate. it wouldn't surprise me if film even made something of a resurgeance. All it will take is one dude or dudette to do something amazing with it and everyone will jump back on the bandwagon so to speak ( ok maybe not everyone ) the expense of film compared to digital will prohibit that but you get the idea

well thats embarrassing never been concerned with post dates before. now. Not sure how i can carry the burden of responsibility now that i have to watch post dates as well. I feel abit like jesus bringing lazarus back from the dead
