well its been a week or so, got some pics with the canon 60d attached to the elmoscope. Not sure why, but i find it much easier to double focus with the canon attached to the elmo compared to the bmp4k, maybe i'm used to the canon, it seems really odd to me that there is such a difference. But it could be just me. Is there anyone else out there that's stuck a 2x anamorphic in front of a bmp4k ?. Like to know how it went for you. As i said i took a couple pics yesterday i was quite literally running out the door, wanted to get the elmoscope and pentax m42 85mm across to the machinist, should have it back by next friday. Then i should be sorted i hope. i had the 18-55 kit lens on the canon, wanted to see if it vignettes at what focal lengths, it vignettes slightly at 55mm to really badly at 18mm, but how do you know if you dont try ? not sure if my scope is not vertical or i wasn't hold the camera correctly but ignore the leaning brickworks lol its just for testing. i guess i have to get into the habit of putting it onto a tripod even when in a hurry. Hopefully the pics i uploaded turn out more anamorphic than the last attempt

why not just buy a canon. there's like 5 different models with three different tiers, surely you could find something to suit your budget ?
-
if you had video and and some vintage lenses and were moving into 35mm then i would buy a system that could use the lenses i already had and build onto it from there. of course that doesn't work so well for medium format or bigger. Believe it or not but i have a nikon coolscan sitting under my desk. i somehow lost my desktop with the raid controller when i moved. i have no idea how one loses a complete computer but i did. slowly been putting an older system together that could run the old scanner, but well video keeps getting in the way.

i doubt their too concerned about us. We hit about 380 pages before the bmp4k even shipped.if they were interested in excitement you'd see more action from captain hook or some other person from bm. Besides bm have their own forum, surely they would consult with the party faithful before us or another forum Not that i'm complaining its nice to see the occasional post from bm with what ever they feel pertinent about and correcting the odd post thats got incorrect information in it, which i think is also nice. They sprang the no more dng files with no warning. i expect that will continue, no idea how deep the rabbit warren is but its bm who have theirs hands on the wheel so buckle up and enjoy the ride or get a sony ?

the blue case should complement nicely with the keyboard back lighting. ?

do you have an app for that ? ?

if your friend is agreeable try some oval aperture frames in his anamorphic, basically an oval shaped cardboard cutout installed at the back of the anamorphic. like they do to for some lenses you see advertised on ebay. Actually you could buy some already made https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Anamorphic-Bokeh-Custom-Lens-Aperture-Frame-4x4-set-6ps/253314572787?hash=item3afab9a1f3:g:YSAAAOSwk1haNA5I but im cheap so i'd cut my own. That might be an interesting experiment for an afternoon. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would be interested to see how things turn out. So a couple of pics and a short results video would be excellent ?

ok found the page that related to fstops and measuring focal length https://www.flickr.com/groups/homemadelens/discuss/72157623828975961/

cropping anamorphic is not a bad thing its just something that has to be done. cropping to a desired aspect does give you some leeway to frame what is important in your footage as well. Newer 1.33 or 1.5 or the isco reds and ultrastars may give you a more clean or clinical look, any older 2x anamorphic you buy will have more character i think but its a very personal subjective thing. check out as much footage as you can before you make a decision.

calebs given you some good advice, as i understand it 1.33 anamorphics are kinda made for your 16.9 format. there is less stretch so less cropping required on a 16.9 format to get the desired 2.39.1 format. 2x scopes are more suited to 4.3 format, that being said the only issue is what you have to crop at to get to your final desired aspect ratio. which depends on your anamorphic stretch . If your coming from a photography background and you see the word cropping. Your first thought is probably that you will lose resolution however this is not the case with anamorphics. The only other concern is the visual differences between 2x and 1.33 the bokeh is nicer on 2x and stronger flares as well i think. One other consideration is flare colour most anamorphics flare blue, not many flare gold or orange as i understand it . if i shot a lot of sunsets or had enough money for another projection lens that eiki sankor 16f would be on my short list as it has amazing flares for sunsets but that might be just me.

i found this its, not this website i was looking for but maybe it may help https://www.diyphotography.net/build-your-own-lenses/ i'll keep looking edit : ok i found it its a flicker group on lens making it may help, at least its interesting reading https://www.flickr.com/groups/homemadelens/discuss/72157622612617105/

type 1 elmoscopes are much more reasonable, i picked up one from japan near mint for about $400 australian. apparently the type one dont go as wide as the type two, but i saved $900 plus i didnt have the money for a type 2 at the time anyway . So i reckon i can live with that. However purple flares would be cool ?

i'm excited its rained not heavy rain, but rain none the less. Which is wonderful seeing as most of western queensland is drought declared. So been undercover doing a few things. Heres a sneek peek of my youtube logo, got alot of sanding and polishing to do but you get the idea and remember you saw it here first ?. Those letters are 200mm high i did them big as a few of the smaller prototypes broke so i gave them some size to give em some strength. Their cut out of marble i had hoped to get some veining through the marble, some of that colour will come out when their polished i hope.

good to see someone trying out new things. let us know how it goes on the p4k

yes gonna try that shortly just didn't have the originals with me when i posted the last comment. i hope to get some footage to upload shortly been planning to do it for awhile but there's been some hiccups, and working away from home tends to defeat any sort of planning i do. on the bright side i have got all the letters for my logo on the youtube channel cut on the waterjet. so that aught to add an extra element. Probably could do something in resolve but i thought i'd go oldschool

Three cheap variable ND filters shoot-out - which one should I keep?
leslie replied to heart0less's topic in Cameras
great minds think alike it seems. i have some zomei filters and k&h adapters i just received a pack of nd and graduated filters with a raider brand name. i figure for $20 if their absolute crap it wont be a big deal. Wont get a chance to use them before thursday, If you dont mind i can drop a few photos in this thread for comparison -
ok i know your all been waiting with bated breath. Picked up the anamorphic mount this morning the first couple of pics show the old projector mount. I had the old positioning arm machined off and one additional 3mm grub screw machined into the bottom of the mount and three bolts machined through the anamorphic lens leg holder into the old mount. The bolt pattern was offset about 30 degrees to stop bolts from hitting the grub screws. the first time i fitted it together the anamorphic and bmp4k, i had a real issue with alignment. The bmp4k was not parallel to the smallrig. It was leaning backwoods quite noticeably. I then tried the canon 60d and it was closer to parallel. I then pulled it all apart upon inspection the cheap quick release tripod rocks a little when placed on a table top so that might be my problem. I did turn the tripod release around and now its alot closer to parallel close enough for me to play with anyway. there's also an issue with the bmp4k spinning a little on the quick release, i put it down to the small contact suface of the quick release and the bmp4k base plate has a recessed area with a high ridges around the edge. Its not a major issue, so far its kinda my only gripe with the camera and as gripes go in the overall scheme of things its a pretty small one The bmp4k has one small hole each side of the socket. i'm willing to bet good money that any accessory that bm brings out has prongs on it that slot into those holes next to the tripod socket and prevent any slippage. Because i plan on shooting anamorphic, once i get a threaded connection between the anamorphic and the taking lens, i think the camera twisting issue will go away. i did get a couple of quick backyard shots late in the day. First thing i notice with the canon connected to the anamorphic was that i get the confirm beep and focus mark regardless of whether its actually focused or not, which i found rather intriguing. I guess its the anamorphic optics confusing the camera somehow. I also had the el nikor 63mm enlarger lens and bmp4k connected briefly and i could get focus peaking on some clouds and trees in the distance but it was getting late by then. the el nikor 63mm doesn't vignette on the bmp4k. The standard 18-55mm canon kit lens vignettes from bad at the wide end and a litle bit when zoomed in. I'll get some photos next week as i have just about run out of weekend. not sure if i saved the cat and yard pictures correctly photoshop displays them correctly but i think i need to crop them maybe will have to investigate more hmm those last two pics do look odd, i guess i have some homework, looks like photoshop displays them ok but it doesn't save them in that format.

my pictures are in 4k..... thats got to be worth 4 thousand words ?
-
if they hit that price anytime soon, your going to see a grown man cry. . one of the reasons i bought the bmp4k was because it had cdng. i was sorta thinking along the lines that it being a series of singular images, i might be able to stack and blend images similar to what you do with astophotography and macro photography, not had a chance to test that avenue of thought out yet. no idea if its good idea or not but its on the todo list ?
-
thanks for that, been wondering for awhile how those filters compare. i kinda like the promist 1/8 seems just a little less pronounced or more subtle perhaps. 1/8 is the weakest effect right ?
-
do you mean the price or the rickshaw ??
-
i think we talked about that before, you got the series two right ? both the series 1 and 2 are highly regarded over on bmuser. i plan on getting one once i get the anamorphic elmoscope sorted out.
-
honestly i don't care how they compare. After watching the vid all i can say is, use what you got. you wont be disappointed. I have neither of the previous bm cameras, it's water off a ducks back, for someone who just goes out and buys the camera and wants to make videos.... er movies for those that get offended by the word video ? . I Pre ordered because i was impressed with the p4k trailers that bm produced. if i can produce something half as impressive i'll be happy. if you have either of the other cameras and can produce awesome footage thats fantastic and while i may not worship the ground you walk on, i will clap politely ? . Talk of pixel sizes makes me sleepy. i think you have got some real issues if you have the camera and need to talk pixel sizes and if you dont have a camera but still need to talk pixel sizes then your nitpicking. Like it or not CinemaDNG is a dead horse with bm and i'm guessing theres a few legal reasons why. Now you can keep on flogging that dead horse but it gets pointless pretty quickly and the rest of us will look at you oddly as well, unless you were an early adoptee and have a 6.1 version. show some wisdom and move on.

some lovely colours at the end of that first video ! i do like timelapses, shot a few with the canon 60d using ml with the intervalometer function, not tried ramping with it yet. done some with the gopro 4. The gopro 6 can make timelapses on the go, but i find the output to have sparkly bits or something similar to marching ants at times. so i prefer to take a series of photos instead and create the timelapses with virtualdub as that was the first program i used and it was free and i'm used to it . could probably use resolve now that i got a copy with the p4k. Will have to look into it. Bought the letus anamorphic adapter for the gopro 4 awhile ago. the company had like 6 left in stock not sure if they will make any more. but i'm glad i got one. For an experiment shot some footage of the cat earlier today. yet to have a look at it been busy. went to town a few days ago dl some resolve youtube tutorials, now know how to de-squeeze anamorphic footage in reolve. Got four days work this week if i get a chance i'm going to make myself a new granite benchtop for my desk at home. i'll offer my boss some $$ for some stone, if he aint around too much i'll do a time lapse of it all. I think it would interest a few people to see some big machines running.

i remember bm saying that braw would be coming to the p4k pretty early in the campaign. Although they did forget to mention that it would be at the expense of cinemaDng ? i have to wonder if mine now has added value since i have 6.1. not that i'm interested in selling, took 5 months to get this one, couldn't do that again ?
