nice work. like the plane speeding up and slowing down. i know its done alot these days but for some things its cool but that might be just me ? -
from a still shooters perspective, gary ayton photogtaphy likes the 85mm http://www.ayton.id.au/wp02/?p=4724 and the lonely speck recommends them for astro https://www.lonelyspeck.com/lenses-for-milky-way-photography/ how they go for video i'm not sure. it might help if you can tell us what camera your using, others can then chime in with their experiences. Judging from some of the samples that are getting shown in the lenses thread i don't think you can't go wrong with most lenses. But it all come back to what you find pleasing in a lens, that you find which may differ to what i find pleasing . Certainly some lenses are have characters that bring out subtle nuances that can be appreciated. In genera i am of the opinion, anything this is good on stills is going to be good on video. but thats a newbies appreciation of videograpgy.

hey i'm left handed, you make being left handed sound like an impediment you should definitely rush out and buy a bmp4k now, it will improve your dexterity !!. Besides that, there is plenty of great footage shot with other cameras and i reckon there will plenty more great footage shot on other cameras. i'm not trying to sell bm cameras because well, there's no commission in it for me. i do however like stirring the pot every now and then, don't take too much of what i say seriously. If your making birdie movies would not the 2x crop on the p4k get you closer to the action ? i know where your coming from my fitness level sucks as well. I caught some rare bug three years ago which took alot of the fun out of everything, but there are people out there doing it tougher than me so im not complaining. i think the battery life is ok, certainly not spectacular. I tend to turn it off after i take a shot. it fires up in less then five seconds. maybe if i went to a carnival or a zoo i'd want another battery or maybe another solution perhaps still considering, but like anything, you have to work within the limits of what you have got.

stop playing hard to get, turn to the dark side. We have braw and chocolate chip cookies

got a slot milled for the ssd and tried milling a depression for the tripod socket screw. Unfortunately gouged the side of the hole. As i proof of concept i know it works. Next week will be focused on some correct sized drill bits, clamps amongst other things and a mark 2. also learned that the el nikor 63mm enlarging lens does in fact focus to infinity on the bmp4k. so that one step closer too having an anamorphic rig

anyone notice a jump in ebay prices over the last week or so. i swear items i'm watching have jumped upwards of $20-30 . might just be the aussie $ doing a swan dive of the harbour bridge however. Been watching some pentax 17mm and 20mm and the same in canon fd mount they seem to be going ballistic in pricing, may as well just buy new. i think most people would assume your shooting stills and try to go around you. most people will look to see if if your about to take a photo. some idiots (like me) will wander about aimlessly hoping for 5 seconds of fame ?

quite a few people in the bmp4k facebook page are getting theirs. Either bm ramped up production or everyone in the factory is finally back from holidays. I suspect that maybe production might have been a bit slow while they sorted some minor issues out. haven't heard of anymore battery doors issues. although i have seen someone get one with the buttons upside down a couple of days ago.

not completely diy, i have had a small rig for awhile i also have an elmoscope anamorphic lens plus some other bits and pieces, i'm looking to intergrate everything together in a nice robust package without the use of duct tape and chewing gum

been a bit busy this week. Had the 15mm olympus body cap lens turned up this afternoon. To late to have a play with lol. I also took a set of digital calipers to the bmp4k and got some measurements from it, had a piece of perspex lying around. Drew it up in cad and got it cut out at work on the waterjet , I'm calling this the mark one. Now that i have had some time to look at it there's a few things i want to change. i want to add about 4mm to both sides of the hand grip hopefully that will allow enough room to cut out a hole that will allow the battery door to swing open. i think it should work. i plan on milling out a space for a quick release tripod mount as well and finally horizontally mill a slot for my ssd to slide into.

if someone wanted to do a group buy and resell one they didn't need on ebay and add a couple of dollars for postage i'd be in on buying one

i dont think you have made a bad buy its looks like you haven't bought a complete lens. As it looks to me like your missing the another lens that would screw into the back of the ultrastrar and then mount to the projector. As i understand it the rear lens is not required for shooting anamorphic video on an a7. I think the normal procedure is to buy a lens clamp that fits the back of your ultrastar and then mount that to your taking lens or whichever lens you have on the front of your camera. you should probably start with a lens around 85mm in focal length as that shouldn't vignette. not sure what the crop factor is on an a7 so can experiment to see how wide you can go before it vignettes. Good luck. if you still get stuck post another message

in theory a larger base should give you greater rigidity for a given diameter, kinda like how its easier to bend a half inch in pipe compared inch and a quarter. However if your worried about bending stuff you really shouldn't be using your iphone as a lever. Does the lens screw on to the iphone ? if its threaded, so long as you don't cross thread it it should self align and remain parallel if its a push on type then all bets are off and you will need to judge it as best you can when you mount it. i kinda like a wider diameter pipe just for the thought that a narrower pipe might constrict the light perhaps. but the these things are supposed to be engineered so who knows. are you talking about moments lens for iphone or something else ?

Got some pics of the moon through the canon and the bmp4k with the el nikor 63mm. I am happy with the infinity focus through the canon and m42-ef mount. I get a halo round the moon with the bmp4k and el nikor on the m39-m/43 mount. not sure if its my lack of exp with the bmp4k or the el nikor isn't quite at infinity focus, more testing required over the next couple of nights while the moon is around. This pic is from the el nikor 63mm mounted to the canon. i think the 63mm with the 1.6 crop factor makes for about a 100mm lens. The photo is cropped about 50% i think. Not going to bother with my attempt from the bmp4k its kinda atrocious i will post when i have something more suitable. I did win the olympus 15mm body cap lens i was bidding on. So that should turn up in the next couple of weeks

i have no experience with the previous camera or any video camera actually. The bmp4k is my first video camera. I think you would find that the ui is quite easy to use and navigate around with. I have had it a week or so now and have been a bit sporadic about using it. I have probably flattened the battery twice which is an indication of how much time i have spent with it. I have had the chance to play with again this afternoon and i now begin to know which buttons are where and what they do. it's simply a matter of using it and familiarizing yourself with it . Resolve on the other hand scares me ? and i'm going to have to make a dedicated effort there, but its probably more in my mind than anything. i also have been using a cheap toshiba sd card it will shoot prores hd without issues so if you have some cards already you can probably use them for hd. If you want higher resolution then you would have to spring for faster cards or a samsung t5 ssd. For run and gun or rigging i cant help you there no experience whatsoever. searching eoshd will help you no doubt. There is a thread for bmp4k power solutions on eoshd. I don't regret buying it.

Had the wandalust pinhole lens on the p4k today played with some settings but i think it will be some time before i have something inspiring to show . i have seen some stuff online and suspect its been processed for want of a better word. so more work or learning required, i think. Kinda hoping to be able to use it in a dreamy surreal sort of way. I did notice one other thing today and that is the length of the wall plugpack to the camera is just long enough to let the plugpack rest on the ground and not have any undue weight on the connection as it goes into the camera when mounted on a tripod. Which is a nice touch i think. One more thing i finished an el nikor 63mm enlarger lens m39 to m42 ef adapter today as well. If i unscrew the ef mount i can then screw it into a m42 to m4/3 adapter i have. Gonna take a video of few seconds of tonight's moon and see if the infinity focus is to the same point as when mounted to the ef mount which would save me making making another adapter for the bm and place me one step closer to shooting anamorphic. i know the el nikor 63mm is meant for full frame. However i figure with the prices climbing all the time i might as well get one and be done with it and be future proof if i ever get a full frame. Not sure on m/43 how wide i can go for a taking lens but i think i'll have a look around for a 50 mm el nikor enlarging lens next and see how that goes. By the way has anyone seen anything shorter than a 50 mm enlarger lens as i am rather curious about the potential Another thing learned i can record 8.05 seconds of hq prores 4k dci on my cheap toshiba 32g card before it drops frames in case anyone was wondering. i should try cinema dng and see what i get for posterity My manfroto tripod has died. well one of the clamps on the top leg section has stripped. i think i now know why my brother gifted it to me ?. To be honest it wasn't very smooth on pan or tilt so it looks like i'm in the market for a new tripod for videography. Damn that's probably going to impact my lens buying for awhile. i think i will put a hose clamp around that section of leg to stop it falling down and use it round the property.

gentlemen we have met with Success ? part two, i continued with the middle extension tube i screwed the m39 as far into the m42 adapter as i could till there was one thread holding it on. As there is about 10mm of space at the back and where the thread starts. Then mixed up some two part epoxy and let it drip onto the threads and into the adapter space then let it dry. which gave me another 5mm to grind off. i wanted the m39thread in there to keep the el nikkor lens parallel for testing purposes while i ground everything down. I spent another hour or so grinding, cooling, cleaning, checking, rinse and repeat. i attached the whole contraption to my canon 60d with an m42 to ef mount. my canon has a katzeye microprism screen in it. So i picked a tree far enough away to focus on, as material was removed the two halves of the tree grew closer together. when i was close i refocused on a fluffy cloud and used the micro prisms to judge infinity focus. one other benefit of using the canon was i got the focus confirm when i hit infinity. which made me really happy, as i know that i had nailed it then ? I have about 2 threads left of the original m39 threaded ring as you can see i also squeezed some black pen ink into the 2part epoxy i made up. its quite black in the threads and the gap at the back, but on shiny alloy it goes reddish as you can see in the photo. I may have to do something about that when i hook up an anamorphic lens perhaps time will tell. Overall i am quite happy with my achievement and i like it a bit better than tit'os mod as no wire or duct tape is involved and the el nikor remains unmarked but there is a lot more grinding and testing to achieve infinity focus. All up i'd say i spent about four hours on it but i went slow and steady to minimize the chances of screwing it up. i have to thank tito for the original inspiration... so thanks tito ?

sounds like a clever marketing ploy, they mention only the filter stack of the sensor, new optics and compatibility only with the bmp4k. I guess somewhere, there is a room filled, with a bunch of men in little white coats they need to feed. With a new camera on the scene there is no better way of generating a new niche market than preying on peoples perceived weaknesses of a particular design. we already know that the XL 0.64x, 0.71x work fine on the bmp4k. Seems to me their pushing the exclusivity thing abit ( you have the best new 4k camera now go buy the best new 4k speed booster that incidentally only works on the bmp4k. because you owe it to yourself, blah blah blah ) i have heard that some earlier bm cameras had an issue with filter stack thickness, but i would think bm would have sorted it out by now, if they hadn't, we would have heard of it by now on the forums. if the filter stack is an issue with the XL 0.64x or the ULTRA 0.71x why isn't an issue with any lenses we attach to the front of the camera ? (maybe my logic is flawed if i'm wrong feel free to enlighten me ) i think metabones is grasping at straws by bringing that up. Percentage wise, how much better can it be ? I think the bmp4k has slightly bigger sensor from the original if i remember the stats correctly (which is where the optimized optics come in i presume ) perhaps they have added some contacts for added functionality with the bmp4k or an electronic nd filter but thats some pretty wild speculation on my part. I don't have a speed booster yet so be interesting to see how things develop. if the new speed booster is 10%, 20% better i'll buy one. Otherwise i'll probably buy a cheap XL 0.64x, 0.71x that's recently found its way to ebay ?

MrSMW is fixated on guns it seems

one of my lenses .... er lens caps has turned up. its a wandalust pinhole for m4/3 keen to give it a bit of a go tomorrow getting a bit late here and this thing equates to like f92 or something. got a couple of hours to go on bidding for an olympus 15mm bodycap lens if i don't win this auction i might just buy one ? i guess it seems abit odd to go get a 4k camera then not throw a couple of stellar cine lenses at it ? i find the 300mm takumar a little soft and a bit of ca happening as well. i downloaded some resolve beginner tutorials which i plan on working my way through after that i plan on revisiting the moon a bit more with my meade lightbridge which might make things a little more interesting

wagga wagga ? we'd be almost neighbors ?

i doubt it, i think only andrew reid could delete or lock a topic. besides you can always block someone if you want too, not sure if that stops their post from showing in threads you read however. perhaps its time for us to prove we're the better men, as a certain x-man would say and move on.

now there's a classic , i also got a giggle out of tremors, but the all time favorite is princess bride ? Come my love I'll tell you a tale, Of a boy and girl And their love story. And how he loved her oh so much, and all the charms she did possess.... ....time for a campfire and some toasted mash mellows i think ?

i have no idea where you plan on using this but i imagine there is a whole lot of legalities involved especially if you plan on using it on the road and if you are using car mounted camera gear on the road. It is probably the one area where you'd want to buy something that's certified and fit for purpose. Welding something up in the back yard is just asking for trouble, you need to cover yourself legally and for insurance purposes. not sure where you are or how the road rules are enforced, but the cops here in australia would have a field day if they find you out on the road with a front mount camera like that. the only place you could use it without issues or a permit probably is private property, a race track or drag strip, or closed road but even then on a closed road and if they came along the cops would probably want to see some permits or something. they take road safety very seriously and rightly so
