its kinda old school, it relates back to analog tv and how a picture was built up on the old cathode ray tube. there was progressive scan and interlaced. i'm kinda feeling rather old right about now i think i'll shut up and have a nap

i am not sure that downscale is the correct term technically your putting 30 fps onto a 24fps timeline which results in either 1 second of 30fps footage playing for 1.25 seconds if my math is right which makes the duration slightly longer and probably a barely perceptible slow motion effect , the other option you constrain you footage to the 24fps timeline in which case frames have to be dropped. six frames per second, as 30 into 24 doesn't fit real well. please someone correct me if i'm wrong. downscale to me is more like taking 1080 footage and converting it to 720. if your determined to shoot at 24 fps just shoot your interviews and the tennis at 24 fps you can the shoot the slow motion stuff at 60 fps and intercut it with your 24fps timeline giving you filmic look with the slow motion of 60fps computers do a marvelous job of speeding things up and down, you may not notice a few seconds of 30fps slowed to 24 fps but if the footage went for ten minutes i think you might. for me inter cutting 24 fps with 30 fps and 60 fps would get tedious and given enough time i'd screw it up somewhere, either at the interview stage or on the court or in post.

i'm trying to follow this conversation but i'm struggling. it seems to me that you traveling something of a tangled path but maybe thats me pal is 25 fps ntsc is 29.97 fps or 30 fps depending on how technically inclined you are as i understand it movies are 24 fps why do you render to movies at 24fps ? unless your going to watch this on a cinema screen ? dragging everything to 24 fps and then speeding it up too either pal or ntsc standards must have some small detrimental effect to either sound or video playback . depending in which country you live, wouldn't you be recording pal or ntsc format ? maybe if you lived in aus then exported dvds to the us you would render to ntsc format to suit their market or vise versa but i think taking stuff back to 24 frames is a step you could avoid i think. if you are steaming content online or sending to youtube there doesn't appear to be any difference when i watch you tubes from online and different countries i have never noticed any odd thing happening i guess there is some "magic" going on in the background to make it all seemless regardless of which format you record in ( thats a bit of generalization i know maybe someone more knowledgeable could chime in ) i grabbed this off wikipedia to help illustrate my point PAL vs. NTSC PAL usually has 576 visible lines compared with 486 lines with NTSC, meaning that PAL has a 20% higher resolution, in fact it even has a higher resolution than Enhanced Definition standard (854x486).[citation needed] Most TV output for PAL and NTSC use interlaced frames meaning that even lines update on one field and odd lines update on the next field. Interlacing frames gives a smoother motion with half the frame rate. NTSC is used with a frame rate of 60i or 30p whereas PAL generally uses 50i or 25p; both use a high enough frame rate to give the illusion of fluid motion. This is due to the fact that NTSC is generally used in countries with a utility frequency of 60 Hz and PAL in countries with 50 Hz, although there are many exceptions. Both PAL and NTSC have a higher frame rate than film which uses 24 frames per second. PAL has a closer frame rate to that of film, so most films are sped up 4% to play on PAL systems, shortening the runtime of the film and, without adjustment, slightly raising the pitch of the audio track. Film conversions for NTSC instead use 3:2 pull down to spread the 24 frames of film across 60 interlaced fields. This maintains the runtime of the film and preserves the original audio, but may cause worse interlacing artifacts during fast motion. hope it helps

1) perhaps but i feel you may be being a bit harsh on canon colours, alot of people go on about canon colour and try to emulate it heck half this website is about canon colour in one form or another. 2) when has movie making been accurate ? its all the look and flattery plays a big part if it didn't, ugly people like me would be actors and tom cruise would be waiting on tables some where ?

er sorry.. i assumed new old stock bmcc cameras from the manufacturer. which would indeed be a steal. but on the second hand market maybe, still feels a little too cheap time will tell

i should elaborate, i sit, i stand, i lay down, i turn around everything appears pretty smooth to my eyes,i would expect my eyes and other senses to report shaky footage only in the event of an earthquake or stupidly standing in the middle of a boxing ring or crashing a motorbike (no don't ask about the motorbike) i feel it should be the same with video footage, smooth . i hear what your saying about the look and moderation. which ever way you skin this cat, handheld, gymbal, steadicam, crane/jib, whatever method you use, make it smooth it will look more natural to me and will hold my attention longer . isn't this why they put image stabilization on lenses and cameras to help make things smoother. take the hero 7, they are selling hypersmooth there might be a few other improvements but its the hypersmooth their selling. i dont want to rant, and i confess i'm as guilty as the next bloke when i watch my stuff and think i what the hell was i doing there ?. conversely for those interested, there could be an emerging market with the younger generation not sure what they feed kids these days however if shaky footage and cutting to a new scene every second and a half is your thing then i reckon you might be a hit with the kids ?.

that would be pretty optimistic, and if they did drop the prices and continue to sell them. it would have to make one wonder exactly how much profit margin is built in to these things

i'm with you i'm not a fan either!

i thought i saw some progress on your trolley in an earlier vid however this time around looks like your back to stacking a couple of bags on top of one another or do you have separate trolleys for different jobs ? i'm sort of preparing to do a similar thing with a trolley myself. have you considered those flat pack plastic storage containers ? i plan on getting a couple of different sizes and making a couple of shelves for them. i also come from a removalist's background i'm tempted to get with one the ratchet strap mounted to the trolley as not only could you run it around the cart and secure everything. you can also just ratchet the trolley to the side of a truck or lug point in a ute for a quicker departure. one other question i have is have you had an issue with the tires marking timber or vinyl floors ? as a removalist i can say people do tend to get agitated if they think their floors might become marked. one other tip i have for you is that uhf walkie talkie is pretty handy out on the road as well change it to channel 40, the truckie's channel and you will get constant road reports.

wow nice cover picture my temperature just went through the roof too and not because of the cpu either ? so global warming is your fault ? not sure why you guys in the north dont save your footage up and edit in winter your machines would run way cooler ? all jokes aside my laptop is my fastest machine at the moment , it has the free davinci on it in anticipation of learning abit about it while i wait for the bmp4k to turn up. at the moment i am liking the idea of an intel nuc if i can hang a gpu off the side of it and get improved working times i'd be happy with that.my projects aren't mission critical with a one hour turn around. of course my situation is different to those of you that have to make a living out of this. what i would find interesting is a poll or new thread perhaps with an overview of peoples current systems and average times to process a job, that may give some of us a bit of a heads up but maybe thats my newbie appreciation of things and not so relevant for you that have been around for awhile

probably couldn't be made much smaller, laws of physics n all. these cameras aren't the same size as a gopro on a selfie stick. i thought it did well to balance with camera and the sigma lens without burning out a motor. i expect one of these will probably wear you out rather quickly same as dslr on a steadicam.

that was quite informative, although i nearly had a heart attack at the start ? . it nice to see that the venting on the bottom is open. some naysayers were all over that vent as a major issue at the start. glad to see its not an issue at all. i did like the first one the most, however i would have to find some longer bits of plastic or metal to slide in and clamp those cables in place. personally for me,thats probably the weakness of all those cages insecure cable attachment.

sounds like your the diy'er ? i'm lazy and cheap, i bought a cheap chinese steadicam it adds some weight and lets me pan and (maybe in theory tilt a little but i have yet too work on that) whats not to like ?

well i had a chuckle, maybe not a belly laugh but a chuckle at least what ever this camera is or isn't is moot, the camera is in production now its all about learning how to best utilize said camera . you can contribute meaning full dialogue or not. now i like a laugh as much as the next bloke maybe even more so then some. this particular thread could easily be a hundred pages long rather than 330.. its kinda sad that one has to filter so much sand to find a few golden nuggets. it would be nice to stay a little more on topic, i get it, that some are fans of established brands of cameras however if it doesn't compare, relate or contribute directly to a bmp4k make a new thread, its not rocket science.

a canon with magic lantern installed perhaps, but you would probably have to crop. there might be an experimental build with 4:3 i'm not sure. i have ml installed on an older canon used mostly for playing around with timelapse so i'm not really up with current versions of ml

i'm not sure there is a cheap answer to that question there are answers to your question, however i dont think any of them are cheap plus getting down to 25 mm is a big ask i think maybe im wrong but i doubt it will be cheap . technically letus make an anamorphic adapter but that does 1.33 and fits a gopro but is soon to be discontinued, moondogs make something similar for the iphones. their your cheapest options and i doubt they would fit to a 25mm . next step up is projector lens and associated lens clamps and filter holders then you have to either double focus or buy a single focus lens adapter plus diopters if you want to get closer . its probably not that much cheaper than just buying a real anamorphic lens to start with perhaps, if you take the added level of drama all the above entails . dragging up letus name again they make a bigger anamorphic but its only 1.33 for 16,9 as well and $2600 not sure how wide it will go with lenses. slr magic seem to be reasonable priced at the moment. but i not done much research on them either, thats about the extent of my knowledge maybe others can chime in with their knowledge. personally the anamorphic stuff i see advertised on here seems to have additional gold plating and gold ionized lens coatings as well the prices people are asking for them, good luck to them i guess. i'm thinking i might have missed the cheap anamorphic lens bus by about 12-18 months i guess. i saw an iscorama 36 for $6000 on ebay last week. i would have to win the lottery or start robbing banks to afford one of those sigh. excuse me while i go quietly and have a cry in my glass of milk. ps : cine glass was probably never cheap and it seems to have turned a corner and is heading up ,way way up

whats wrong with knocking ? i like it.. an early warning system that can rip your arm off ?
-
i know ebay has a return policy, i am grateful that i haven't had to use it yet. i guess you can be lucky at times ? but i prefer to have my bases covered with a minimal amount of risk with my money plus the fact that it would add an extra level of drama having to ship stuff back and filling out forms and so on. i would prefer just to take it too the shop i got it from the next time i was going that way

damn that's bad luck dbounce, receiving two bad units. i'd be about ready to string somebody up by their toenails. rather glad i went with the p4k but even then there's probably a one in a million chance that mine could be a dud as well but at least we both have the warranty as a saving grace i kinda lean the other way, and have to wonder why someone is selling it. however having said that all my lenses are second hand, so was the car and motorbike. i'm not sure i would buy a camera body 2nd hand of ebay. i prefer the security of a warranty for most electrical items but that might be just me.

yeah all the crap they go on with if they are going to sell it like that, then it should come with a soldier to carry it and the spare batteries you need and maybe a few lenses as well ?
-
only if you laquer up the cardboard first, and i'm not pre ordering either ?
