i agree, my understanding is the m42's are ff as well so the image circle should be ok but i hear that the bmp4k has a slightly larger sensor than previous but it's still same mount. so i'm thinking with crossed fingers that it will be ok. this video side of things is new to me and i lashed out on the bmp4k while its brand new and somewhat unproven. be bold or go home i say ? . i would be leaning towards a speed booster later down the track. i'm salivating at the thought of an extra stop of light and a little less crop . main issue at the moment is the waiting game. hopefully before or around xmas time i am informed then can play with the lenses i have got. hopefully the lenses are fine. some suggest that they may not hold up to 4k. its all up in the air at the moment

i like the look of your frame grabs, that gives me some hope that my m42's may be ok with the bmp4k time will tell no doubt.

sticks and stones buddy sticks and stones.... for someone who has 378 posts and 130 reputation which doesn't quite equal half indicates most find your posts useful or beneficial but that latest post, is neither in fact it has some real negative connotations. i'm prepared to let it slide but if that's where your your mind is at, well i pity you so much potential is just going to be wasted

whats important that we take away from this as a community and develop in maturity while we move forward is... how cheap are these black shirts and where do we get them ? on the positive side of things think of the added bonus of light leaks and the ability to do xrays in situ
-
dear lord i hope so, because i have 5 or 6 takumars myself that i also hope to utilize on the p4k some suspect that the lens won't hold up for 4k but i haven't seen anything definite yet
-
i guess you won't talk to me then ? by the way i have dibs on shirozina's black shirt please photocopy your receipt as proof of purchase email that to grant perry at wecare@bmd.com.au with a small note of displeasure about missed oppotunities. i'm sure somebody down in melbourne cares and will be in contact directly... i have grant's number but its on my other samsung sorry bout that ?

you forgot to add a fuji and sony comment, but i wont hold that against you ? it seems more than one manufacturer has missed delivery dates, its not the first time nor will it be the last. no idea about the lumix or its specs. but at least the company hasn't gone broke and left you high and dry.... yet ?

one word for you.... overalls and you could probably get a box of tissues in there as well ! never had any dealings with bm before buying a bm4k but being australian would probably make them pretty easy to deal with. you know i'm beginning to think there must be some basic mineral deficiency in the soil over seas as you people get agitated way to easy. perhaps fuji, pany, sony aught to add valium in blister packs to their camera packs to keep the fanboys reasonable ?
-
yer they should all man up and get a bmp4k ? 5576 replies, 545617 views in like 6 months most of the other forums can't match that since the dawn of eoshd ,clearly bmp4k rules, the rest are wannabe's or haters perhaps ?

yer poor old santa perished when i was about 15, i was lucky to have him around for so long i guess ?

hmm i thought this is a forum where we could discuss going out and shooting people ..... with a camera ? giving away free versions with limitations is standard policy in every market. for instance you could go down to your local market, they may have a woman there giving out marinated steak tidbits on cheese crackers they might be delicious, but will they give you enough to fill your belly, i think not. to fill your belly you have to go buy that steak, marinade, and cheese cracker from their store preferably. same with software, and if you need to complete that project in half the time then you will need to upgrade that software which will cost you $ plus there's a side benefit , the fact if your using bm's software well you can't really be using any one elses software at the same time now can you ?

same as everything else, you want the good stuff, you got to pay for it you don't make money by giving everything away.

i'd also like to add wind has an affect on the steadicam as well, went outside this afternoon to practice with it and its very windy, i did adjust the bottom too its full extent and that did help balance it in the wind, however blustery winds and the dead cat on top perhaps made for none to steady imagery..... consequently i gave up

no experience with the tru horizon, but i do have a s40 steadicam. $40 aus, reasonable price i thought. its cheap, but it seems sturdy enough for what its got to do, its smooth in all the axis movements and moves freely with no play. i would expect the pricier models to be the same if not better somehow , maybe better damping perhaps. as i have watched a few videos on line and mine seems to take longer to settle when its setup but i suspect i'm missing a technical principal but i don't know which lol. i did consider a carbon fiber model but the fact that even though its carbon fiber, depending on the camera on top and the weights on the bottom i didn't feel that carbon fiber could make much difference to the total weight saving, perhaps it does. that was one aspect i didn't take into consideration the weight difference between an alloy or carbon fiber steadicam in my research balancing the unit is is where you gonna spend some time. it does pay off spending time getting it balanced nicely. depending on how much you pull it apart for travel will affect how much time it takes to set up the next time you use it. my quick release bracket for the go pro cameras has dual bubble level at 90 degrees i find it most useful when setting up. little changes to the rig make do change the balance and make it like you gave the camera to a drunk and so must be rebalanced. don't ask me how i know this ? it does get heavy or tiring quickly. how tiring depends, if your walking around filming a country fair then your gonna need a bionic arm . if its shorter takes then it may not be such an issue but will still need breaks unless your built like Arnold Schwarzenegger, perhaps i should workout more. as mentioned above lots of practice. i have heard it said, walk like a ninja not sure how accurate that is but you do need a more considered approach for ultimate smoothness. a vest and arm system sounds great, anything that takes the weight off that hand, wrist, arm will make for a much more tolerable day but it does come back to your use and length of shots that you anticipate and from my little research adds another $500 or more to the cost of a steadicam and i haven't arrived at that stage yet, but everyone's need are different. some shots of my rig. i set it up like this to do some comparisons between my gopro cameras i'll change things back to a more conventional setup later. the gopro mic adapter arrived last week and it needs a little mount made for it as it swings in the breeze at the moment i also had to lift the mic up abit otherwise it intrudes into the video other than that it works ok. i hope some of the above helps

technically its not. but it is a valid point kinda makes all that weather sealing redundant if your too scared to get your lenses wet +1 to mr A ?

i might have to get a set of overalls, pretty sure one brand or another would have a pocket big enough to fit the bmd4k , plus i could probably fit the other bit and pieces thats going to be required to shoot with it, in the other pockets. i'm speculating that bm have carried the name over in the hope of riding on the back of the previous camera. it does look to be a bit optimistic to call it a pocket camera but then which other 4k cameras apart from some action cameras would fit in your pocket anyway? i don't know of any but i haven't bothered to research it either and i don't care much about that issue. the size may be somewhat dependent on those vents some people like to point a stick at . take donuts for example those things have a huge hole in the middle of them, never heard any one complain about that ? i guess with a couple of holes in it to aid cooling the surroundings had to grow a bit. but if it runs cool. hallelujah ! manufacturers are always going to be creative in their marketing exercises. if your going to take sales pitches quite literally then i would suggest getting used to disappointment because pretty much everyone does it. sad but true

looking forward to seeing some results as anamorphic really interests me

liam must be the camera whisperer .... i heard bmd 4k ? perhaps i'm a different age bracket, now it's more facebook youtube and other instant media it seems .i subscribed to dpreview and others years ago because i was interested at the time and i still read it every now and then and i notice their up to issue 728 other email subscriptions have been cut as my interests wax and wane . even had a little bulletin board service before it got crushed by the internet. i suspect it's bloody hard work to keep peoples attention after a period of time . i think in this day and age you'd have to be fairly dedicated and determined perhaps even driven . i occasionally watch Casey Neisat and think that's exhausting afterwards but i do admire the guy and whats truly amazing is the stuff people send him. but good luck too him. also thanks to andrew for this site and the work he puts into it, not that i agree with everything he says. but if we were all the same it would be a pretty boring place. bottom line be true to yourself and be true to the followers, subscribers what ever your niche is you may or may not hit the big leagues with it, but that's life.

i thought i was pre ordering, i definitely clicked on the pre ordering link as well but then they billed my card the whole amount and i'm thinking i might have got it in a week or two perhaps. but the last email i got says 4-7 weeks. i think someones idea of billing customers is a bit ambitious , i would have expected to be billed the full amount when stock was in the retailers warehouse awaiting dispatch to the client. i have never pre ordered anything before no idea it that's typical of companies or not, but im not impressed .

lemac have billed my card and i have been informed that's it could be 4-7 weeks till delivery so hopefully the beast turns up before xmas

you can turn your tv on too any current affairs program or news program and see that people are exploiting or bullying (or insert favourite rant here) one another in every aspect of life it aint just the forum. hence vigilance is required no more no less than out there in the real world. i'm pretty sure nearly everyone has bought a lemon of some product that should have been a peach at some point in their lives. seems to me that some people never get over it and consider it their civic duty to go out on a limb to bash said manufacturer till eternity, small minds too much time on their hands perhaps.

10 cm is a 100 mm, there's 10mm difference between 42 mm and 52 mm, my canon fd 35-70 f4 is close to 10 cm long or 100mm not sure how i could cut 10cm off it. i'm guessing you meant 10 mm ?

i watched it again after reading your comment and to be honest i am left underwhelmed. i guess its nice to see some more mundane actual footage shot with the camera and some comparisons with another camera, but i don't think either grading did that dude any favours. perhaps i was expecting something more akin to some of the other offerings that have been presented lately. also whats with the candle flame in the pany shot its nearly twice as big compared to the bm4k surely that affects the light levels or are my eyes playing tricks on me ? actually i am leaning on the bm side of the fence at the moment and yes i have ordered one but i wouldn't consider my self a fanboy just yet.

your mostly correct, however i have dragged the pc round the country side abit when i was in a gaming mood and somewhat younger does that count ? i do plan on taking the bm4k on a road trip and to some national parks. to be honest i baby my stuff abit as well, on the upside everything i own still works i'm expecting an australian company would make a camera for australian conditions :)
