  1. i figure if you can buy a pc that has water cooling, buying a camera with vents won't be much of an issue either
  2. videopro seem to be the cheapest resellers in queensland not sure about the other states. not sure how they can sell it at that price either seeing that bm design have it at $1975 au. other resellers stores are at $1815 or so. sent them an email may decide to do something tomorrow
  3. i doubt anything can change the focus throw apart from major surgery, perhaps he's used to using a follow focus adapter or maybe its just wishful thinking that it may improve the handling somehow. i do know that its easier to turn a (bigger steering wheel than a smaller steering wheel) so maybe a larger diameter wheel over the lens may improve a handling aspect for him perhaps
  4. its about time us locals got a bit of favoritism, everything else filters down to us last usually. you'd buy a truckload more loyalty ( brand pride perhaps ) from me, if if got it a bit earlier than the rest of the world ? oh i have rode mics as well ?
  5. thats interesting lemac still have it available as a preorder i would have thought once they had received a shipment they would have stopped preorders. perhaps their website will process preorders for a little bit longer. i was kinda judging the soon to be availability on when preodering stopped
  6. wolf33d you da man personally if it were me i'd have a couple of inflated tire tubes strapped to my chest not a gopro, judging that still lol my endevours aren't nearly as exciting as yours lately i have been playing around with this set up i have yet to add the gopro 6 sound adapter to the frame. i use the bike bell to sync up the videos for comparisons i have the gopro 4 silver and the gopro 6 black i think their great for what they do.i may not win a lot of fanboys for confessing a fondness for the gopro but who cares the colour on the 6 doesn't pop like the 4 does, but i find the 6 closer to a normal look there's a letus anamorphic adapter on the gopro 4 as well
  7. would you not void the warranty on your camera if you did that ? Not that i have an issue with hacking a camera but i tend to wait till the warranty period is over, i would also imagine the resale value might take a dive as well if it wasn't a reversible hack.
  8. i presume you all got the black magic raw mailout a couple of days ago if not here is some thing to read while we wait i just thought i put it out for you guys to have a look at Grant Petty <mailout@blackmagicdesign.com> 14 Sep. at 8:40 pm Hi, I wanted to email you to give you an update on our new Blackmagic RAW file format that’s been made available today for our URSA Mini Pro cameras and DaVinci Resolve. What is Blackmagic RAW Blackmagic RAW is a modern codec we designed as a replacement for both RAW and video codecs, because we wanted it to be very easy to use, very fast and much higher quality. We have a video that explains all about Blackmagic RAW if you would
like to watch it. Faster and More Intelligent Blackmagic RAW is much more intelligent than simple RAW container formats like the CinemaDNG format we have used in the past, because it understands the characteristics of the image sensor and the camera’s color science. This means we get much more cinematic images and the quality is much better for smaller file sizes. Another big feature of Blackmagic RAW is how it's designed. We have done a partial de-mosaic in the camera, so that part of the processing pipeline has been hardware accelerated by the camera itself. This means Blackmagic RAW does not load up the software with lots of processing and so the result is incredibly fast playback and faster rendering. You also get total control over RAW settings such as ISO, white balance, exposure, contrast, saturation and custom color spaces. Blackmagic RAW also includes extensive metadata support including user customizable sidecar metadata files, plus GPU and CPU acceleration, new Blackmagic Design Generation 4 Color Science, different encoding options for constant quality or constant bitrate and more. Modern RAW Format We designed Blackmagic RAW to be a replacement for both video and RAW formats. It’s really dramatically better than video codecs because the images don't suffer from the 4:2:2 video filtering. Plus compressing video is much more noticeable as image artifacts. But Blackmagic RAW is also better than other RAW formats such as CinemaDNG because it's a single file, is hardware accelerated by the camera so it's much faster, you also have all the color detail and you get full RAW adjustments. Powerful Metadata When it comes to metadata, Blackmagic RAW can embed metadata into the file itself, as well as add sidecar files that means users can add their own metadata. A good example of how this works, is you could record to Blackmagic RAW with camera settings, however when you do RAW adjustments in DaVinci Resolve, you can save that into the sidecar file
and all other software that reads the files will see those changes. Where this is really powerful is when working in video gamma. If you select video gamma in the URSA Mini Pro camera, you will see video gamma if you edit the files. But it’s only the metadata in the file that’s telling the software that the files are video gamma. Underneath they are always film gamma. So if you ever want to color grade the images, you don't get clipped whites and blacks, and all that film dynamic range is there. When you pull up the blacks, or pull down the whites, all that detail will just appear! Developer SDK Library The good news is it’s easy to add Blackmagic RAW support into any software because we have bundled up all the downstream software processing into a single software library that's free for developers. This library is available on Mac, Windows and Linux and it means all the complexity of using Blackmagic RAW has been handled and reading sidecar files, setting RAW parameters and all the color science is included. This ensures you get consistent images between different software applications and across operating system platforms. DaVinci Resolve 15.1 also uses this library so any RAW settings changed in DaVinci Resolve will be seen by other software. We have also built a simple app called Blackmagic RAW Player that lets you review Blackmagic RAW files. Cost and Availability The good news is this update is free of charge. If you own a Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro camera then you can download a public beta for your camera that adds Blackmagic RAW and it also upgrades your camera to Generation 4 Color Science. So you can start shooting in Blackmagic RAW immediately, we are also releasing a new version of DaVinci Resolve 15.1 today. This release has several new features, but most importantly, it includes support for Blackmagic RAW. If you would like to play with some Blackmagic RAW sample files,
we have posted some camera original files on our web site. Please go to www.blackmagicdesign.com and select the URSA Mini Pro product page. You will see a new Blackmagic RAW tab that includes extra information, however on this page we have these camera original files to download. You can also download the Blackmagic RAW Player from this page and it lets you play the files. Perhaps you can download DaVinci Resolve and do some test color grades on the files. You will be able to go to the camera tab in the primary color corrector area and see the RAW settings. You can even save sidecar files. If you want to add Blackmagic RAW support to your own software, the Blackmagic RAW Developer SDK is also available on this page and it includes sample code so you can see how to use the library. Please check out our web site for more information. I am personally very excited by Blackmagic RAW and the feedback from the beta testers has been incredible. I was playing some Blackmagic RAW clips yesterday and then realized I was playing them from an old USB mechanical hard disk. I cannot play 4K video files off this disk, but I could play 4.6K Blackmagic RAW files perfectly. It’s quite amazing how good the pictures look at small file sizes. It’s very exciting. I hope this gives you a good update on what Blackmagic RAW is and how it works. We look forward to discovering what you can do with it! Regards
  9. not sure if its been put forward before or even if you have considered it yourself, but why not have a donate button on your front page for a popular product you could raise some money buy the latest camera or lens, review it post your review. hold on to it for a couple of months for an extended review then hold a forum lottery with one of us lucky subscribers who donated winning it. i haven't pre booked the bm4k yet because... well been burned before going down that path so i can wait a few weeks or more if it's that good and everyone raves about it. i would think more than a few of your subscribers could wait short period for an honest review as well. i not saying that i would be throwing money your way every week but i could afford a couple of dollars once a month if there was a chance of winning something immediately more useful than say a school raffle plus the chance to win something would have to be better than winning the national lottery surely. that way we help you to help us your not beholden to the manufacturers of the tech we all enjoy.if it proved popular i would think after a short period any manufacturer that had a good bit of gear and knew it would be happy to send a unit in for review. well thats my 2 cents. i guess in about 12 hours from now when i log back in i'm either a genius or condemned to one of the 7 lower hells more likely lol
  10. i seem to have generated some debate or some enthusiastic replies anyway, for the record, yes not much research done i came into this forum for the anamorphic side of things because that interests me but that requires video as well interestingly this site has some video forums as well it seems advantageous to me that i glean some knowledge from you experts, you are more expert than me right ? ok mr cinegrain andrew reid makes a few recommendations in the lens forum which i have read most of, plenty of people jump on those recommendations i see no difference from taking your recommendations about a new bm camera from you guys, wouldn't i be crazy not to want a class leading new camera unless of course your saying that your recommendations are less valid, is that what your saying ? your also right about me not wanting a full time job in cinema photography. my recent career change was to become a full time carer for my father if you put that under a cinemascope and have a look i think maybe your perspective might change a bit too . try not to be so judgemental about whats happening a world away. i,m australian we are a laid back mob. i dont think i critiqued the bm4k in anyway i merely said that i hadn't seen any footage yet. but thanks for pointing out the John Brawley reference i will have a look by the way this comment appears a little oxy moronish (it's a cinema camera that thrives in production environments and for people that need thicc footage and are capable and willing to do a lot of post-production on it) really we have this ($1800 camera in my country ) ($1200 in your country perhaps) that does amazing things but requires that you are willing to do a lot of post-production on it) so i am buying a cheaper cinema camera than the competition that should be class leading in some regards that is going to take ten hours in post production to make a 1 hour video look spectacular, is your logic off or are black magic are doing something wrong ? er... i may have played devils advocate there for a moment, occasionally it happens at the end of the day does it really matter if i use a gh5 or bm4k to shoot vids of a dog jumping through hoops, it is after all my money. i will have the best vids of dogs jumping through hoops at least,? by the way if i wasn't interested in learning stuff i would have stayed with the kit lens
  11. i don't know who faulkner is so i have no idea if that's a compliment or not :) . perhaps i need to be more concise or word it differently, most people on here seem excited by this new camera i'm excited too but more reserved. i presume this camera will be overkill for my needs which is fine. i may need to upgrade my desktop but then i have done that before as well althrough less fine but to be expected. i hope that the lenses i have accumulated will also be adaptable pretty easily with either pentax screwmounts or canon fd lenses. i guess at heart i'm a happy snapper who'd like to venture into video, but i have no experience with earlier bm products so who knows perhaps you can enlighten me ? . and yes my thought processes do float around abit comes from falling from the first floor as a baby i kid you not i'm sure my consciousness either floats around or flows i'm too scared to think about it too deeply about it if you ask around i'm sure there's be a couple who would say there's at least a vortex or two and maybe a black hole at the center as well. but you learn to live with it after awhile. you been able to glean much from my earlier flow of consciousness but lets talk less about me and more about the bm4k cause you know the others will get jealous. as you seem to identify well with animals having an elephant as an avatar i pose this simile for you that i cant help but think we are like little puppy dogs chasing our tail when it comes to resolution and how much we think we need ? when will it stop before or after our eyes lose the ability to tell the difference or after our wallets are empty and at what point does resolution become gluttony for the eyes ? i'm kinda happy with 1080 maybe 4k will be spectacular i am undecided at the moment i will probably grab one if it performs spectacularly because i like tech as well
  12. i like the specs like everyone else seems too, but sample footage seems to be a bit thin on the ground, please correct me if that's changed lately. i think i will be waiting till its available before i buy and i'll be waiting for the forums collective expert analysis . colour me pragmatic if you like. i have to say i like the price at the moment it seems reasonable and cheaper than some other options. i am curious if science has done any research into what the eye can resolve at what distance. if i'm being honest i cant see much difference between dvd and blueray with out a magnifying glass and that sony is about a meter from the end of my bed.not sure what 4k will add to the mix i'll also add i turned 51 and now wear glasses to help at times. perhaps i'm more interested in being entertained rather than the technical hoops being jumped through . i am abit concerned that if eyes cant resolve or benefit from a 1080 or 4k picture or 8k then its all a bit of a wank for our ego's is it not ? and we are not enriching ourselves but someone else's pockets perhaps. i also wonder if my new laptop will handle 4k probably not, my old desktop definitely won't. so additional expense is required maybe. my background is .... well actually there's not much background apart from a canon 60d a gopro 4 silver and gopro 6 black that i like to play with you may laugh manically at this point if that's your desire.i'm a rookie/newbie as you have probably guessed and haven't done much research on what else is available either to be honest but considering this bm4k beast is about to be released perhaps it will be worth it and i wont have to research further i'd like to try a make a few videos and i have a few thoughts that i would like to try they might only make a few mates giggle or go viral but i wouldn't get my hopes up. i like the gopros but they do add a distinct look to the mix so i think one of these bm4k might be the ticket if the quality is up there and its easy to adapt the m42 pentax and canon fd lenses i have acquired, time will tell no doubt. lets see how it pans out. it is interesting to note that there's 174 pages of interest but the bm4k hasn't arrived yet, i wonder how many pages will get generated after it arrives...

andrew reid likes the canon 35-70 fd lens so i got one as their fairly cheap, now i am wondering what the consensus is on the canon fd 24-35 f3.5 zoom is ? i found one with ssc coatings however it's not as cheap. also like to add the m42 85mm 1.9 i bought arrived the other day taken some photos but i need to play it it a bit more yet

hello all i am after some opinions on the pentax 85mm lenses either the 1.8 or 1.9 super takumar or smc version in screw mount. i have other pentax screwmounts already so wish to continue the tradition or same look perhaps. the second reason is that after some research into anamorphics 85 mm is about the shortest i can go before vignetting sets in. i presume the super takumar would flare a little more than the smc version which may be advantageous when i dip my feet in the murky waters of anamorphics. from what i have seen on the pentax forums i dont think i can go wrong with either version. but this is a different forum with perhaps a wider viewpoint perhaps. anyway thanks in advance for any thoughts you wish to contribute
  18. i'm chatting to redstan on ebay about a suitable back clamp for the isco i have i shall post some photos later i hope, got a 15 mm rail support system halfway setup as well i'm leaning towards a pentax 85mm 1.8 or 1.9 more research to do but damn their expensive for vintage camera lenses
  19. its good to see that your experimenting. looks like i need to buy a 85mm for the next step with my anamorphic projection lenses. i kinda expected that and a clamp , as about a month ago i bought a lectus amamorphic lens for the gopro i have its been on back order since then and i have been working away from home as well so it was nice to get an email saying it had finally shipped i also has a card from the post office saying i had an item to be picked up, i hope its the same thing lol , i will find out first thing monday morning i will have to take some pics shortly i'd like to know how do you find the jupiter when it turns up as i'm tossing up between it or a pentax 85mm in m42 as i already have 5 m42 lenses for my canon 60d
  20. hello and welcome, i'm new too, i was looking at a hilux 264 on ebay aswell for about $125 australian. all i know is prisms are less popular as anamorphics not sure why. i think you can do anamorphics with a prism but it is the road less traveled i did find something but it was when i first started looking and i suspect it may have something to do with the look and a prism may give you a different look compared to a ''normal'' anamorphic lens. i ended up buying two different brands of projection lens to play with neither where prisms. hopefully someone far more knowledgeable will chime in with a suitable reply.
  21. found this on ebay today a Focusthrough SOLA 16mm x1.5 - Sharp F1.4 -Blue Flares Anamorphic Anamorphot i have googled it but apart from a bunch of ebay listings i couldn't find any other info any one else able to contribute anything ? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Focusthrough-SOLA-16mm-x1-5-Sharp-F1-4-Blue-Flares-Anamorphic-Anamorphot/163102577203?hash=item25f9abd233:g:iJ0AAOSwJWFaUqRw
  22. well the projection lenses turned up this week. they are big beasties indeed, you did make a point about that earlier but hearing it and seeing it is a big difference lol. now for some experimentation and next on the agenda is some lens support. i have ordered a lens wrench, not sure if i need it, however it's better to have it and not need it than not have it and need it. both items came well packaged one from Ukraine the other the USA. apart from a few specs of dust the optics look clean and unmarked so i ham happy about that as its always a worry buying second hand and online. well i worry anyway lol . no doubt i will have a couple more questions shortly
  23. maybe try an external intervalometer if such a thing is available for your camera. you could also try a longer interval between photos sometimes it depends on how fast your camera writes files to memory card and how fast that memory card actually is. inbuilt camera intervalometers can be somewhat ordinary at times as well. have you done many timelapses before ? had any trouble then? theres a whole bunch of variables that have to be considered, like summer or winter camera getting hot jpeg or raw perhaps you can experiment to narrow the odds down .
  24. question for the americans on this forum is fedex the only option for posting an item in the usa i have a lens lined up however the price of fedex is just as dear as the item $140 just for postage to australia , its a deal breaker for me at the moment.
