Yeah its not a feature available in video. So again I see DOF as a big thing. Dealing with M43 DOF is one thing but when you go to a sensor less then half the size it gets annoying. Phone cameras can only go so far as eventually they get too big and who wants to carry around a huge phone, they are already too big.
-
What does that mean?
-
Yeah M43 gets expensive as they have to make those extremely fast lenses to compensate for the sensor. I am more of a fan of APSC. For me M43 only works that well with cameras like the GH5S where you can boost the ISO so you don't need super fast lenses. Not to say the GH5 isn't a great camera but its very limited in low light compared to other bigger sensors of the S.

Its really about lenses not bodies. I like big bodies but not big lenses. I just used a Sony A7III for a shoot the other day. Definitely a nice camera. Menus are trash but all you have to do is custom set the buttons and you are good to go for the most part. Lenses are all huge though and super expensive, native ones at least.

If Olympus puts PDAF in one of their cheaper cameras, I'll definitely buy it. PDAF combined with their amazing IBIS is a killer combo.
-
Prores works better then DNXHD for me. I think there might be a DnxHD plugin you can install for windows tho.
-
I prefer bigger bodies myself though I understand the appeal. Big bodies with big batteries and small lenses.
-
I don't know people tend to grade GH5 and Sony footage really poorly too and it often comes out worse then BM footage because neither camera has that great of color to begin with and the codecs are more limited.

I really don't care about full frame or any of that sensor stuff. To me the latest M43 sensor seen in the GH5S is all I need. Only problem is nobody has done anything proper with it. Panasonic won't put a phase detect system in and there color science isn't really my cup of tea. The Pocket 4k is amazing but again no phase detect auto focus. The Z cam E2 is pretty amazing specs wise. 4K 120fps without a huge crop. Their color science is iffy though and they don't have phase detect auto focus. For me as long as M43 can't stay ahead of the others specs wise I'll be interested. If not its a waste of time. Right now they are dragging behind.

Why not just convert to prores or something? The XT3 should have nicer colors at high ISO's as its been shown that there is less color shifting.

The results showed it had a little more noise but there was more detail in the image and less color shift if any.

Nikon Z7 is at EOSHD HQ - better video than Sony?
thebrothersthre3 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Well with the Sony A6700 having internal 10bit 422 up to 4k 60p and 1080 240fps, we could see something very special in the A7S3. Sony has updated their color science in the A73, so it could be even further improved in the A7S3 and the A7000. I am with you in general on Sony colors though and everything. Exactly why I switched to Fuji from panasonic and have never really went the Sony route(besides a brief affair with the A6300) -

Can't say I'd want any full frame camera at this point for video. Panasonic's look very interesting. The Nikon would probably be my choice though. I'd go Canon but its hard to invest in their stuff when they are so slow on gettings things up to date. -
If you could only use one lens for the rest of your life what would it be?

For APSC Prime a 28mm does makes sense. Not too wide but not too long. Can't get very wide shots with it but any wider and I wouldn't like it for close ups and such. For Zoom its hard to beat a 24-70mm f/2.8G -
That looks really good. I am trying to decide whether to get the 18-55 or save up for an 18-135. I liked the short too, colors look really nice.
-
Thanks for clarifying. Even better.
-
Yep same as XT2 at least in 24 and 30p. 1.5 up to 4k 30p and 1.75 up in 4k 60p and 1080 120p. Even cropped it has a large field of view then the GH5. The battery should be better, but I doubt it will have a flip screen and the crop factor will be the same. I also think it will have the same H265 codec.
-
Can you post an example of video with the 18-55. Curious to see the stabilization. I will definitely buy one if its decent. IBIS is nice, but honestly I was happy with the OIS on my Sony A6300, if it can match that I'd be really happy. I'll definitely be converting the H265 to prores.
-
Yeah there are already reported lock up issues on the XT3, though it seems a simple battery in and out does the trick. That could be annoying if its rigged up on a gimbal or something though. This cameras should match the GH5S in low light, with NR. I don't think you'll see any RAW camera that doesn't need NR at high ISO's. Not saying a full frame wouldn't do better but even slog on the A7SII can be noisy.
-
Looks like I was right, more then matching the Fuji, beating it (in some ways). That said, its too expensive for me. I was going to wait to see what comes out next but I am now going to bite the bullet and buy the XT3, don't think anything else is going to match it as far as what I need.
-
I agree with you on that. I don't see how its advantageous for them to release something before its ready. As to 14 bit raw vs 10 bit 422 or 420, I don't think everyone needs it. But some people do or at least want it. To me its just an amazing feature. Expensive cameras like RED do 14 bit not 1000 dollar pocket cameras.
-
Yeah its not too bad though since I am so used to shooting on the GH5. Its the same crop as the GH5S though.
