Just got to decide your first priority than second and make the choice from there. Hard to narrow it down. What feature would benefit you most shooting your docs? Or what held you back on the GH3? Sometimes you just gotta go with what feels right. These latest offerings from Fuji, Panasonic, Nikon, and even Sony are all great tools.

Yeah you never know. I am not sure where you are from so I am sure that effects it. Detroit is known to be kind of loose in general in terms of that type of thing. This place didn't have any security so as long as you knew someone who had a room there you could get away with shooting. To be honest there wasn't anyone stopping anyone from walking around in there as there were tons of open rooms and halls. Not that I'd recommend it tho lol.

Some type of plant would work, though I could see it being a big liability issue as far as getting permission to film there. I am from Detroit and there is a lot of old buildings that could work. The Russel Center comes to mind which is an old manufacturing facility, which they now rent out spaces in. I help shoot a short there last year. Might be something to look into, not that specific one but manufacturing facilities in general.

Its a bigger camera so stabilization like gimbals will be a bit more expensive. Its got internal ND's which is a big plus. You need an external recorder to get 10 bit out of it. But it has the potential to do RAW 4K 120fps. I doubt the auto focus is very good if it has it. You could use Sony stabilized lenses, which are a good option. I don't think its the easiest camera to use and its on the bulky/awkward side. However internal ND's go a long way if you shoot outside.

Seems like they wouldn't put the same sensor in a higher end body. The P4K sensor is so good it wouldn't be a bad idea though. Using a sensor like the Sony one in the XT3 would be a good idea as well.

Yeah I was saying if their was a cheaper external recording option. The GH5 battery life was considerably less than the GH4 though. IBIS really killed it I think.

Man that SLR magic is tiny. Mounting the lens via bodycap was a great idea, love the ingenuity.

There seems to be a lot of opinions on the downsampling 8 bit 4k to get 10 bit 444. The program you use to downsample and how you do it matter a lot. If not done right the extra information will just be tossed out the window. One of the benefits of shooting at a higher bit depth is better color accuracy and more shades of color. You won't get that downsampling 8 bit 4k as the color is already baked in. I only found mention of one bloke who tried it and said it didn't grade anywhere near as well as 444 recorded internally does. That said he could have been downsampling improperly.

Ah I was a bit confused on if an M43 speedbooster works the same as an apsc(insert brand here) mount one. Makes sense.

That's pretty cool. Of course it takes out the possibility of full frame view with a speedbooster. But its a unique advantage.

Yeah I mean you can find a used GH4 for $400 these days, thats a little over $1000 with Ninja V. Thats a bit cheaper than a used GH5 but not by a lot. Also even with a Ninja V the GH4 is still far behind the GH5 capabilities. If there was a cheaper external recording option it would be more valuable. The GH4 is not a bad camera on its own though. Definitely has limitations.

If you want or need that type of body I guess. With a bigger body like that it seems like it should have more processing power. Something like a GH5S with internal 10 bit up to 120fps prores would be a good way to go. Zcam is kind of already doing that tho.

I'd be interested if they did a MK2.

Just got a Nikon 85mm 1.8 pre ai I am really impressed. This may be my favorite lens I've ever used next to the Minolta 35mm 1.8. Contrast and sharpness wide open is remarkable. I think it also just renders images nicely, can't put my finger on it. from the XT3 eterna jpegs, also used a lens turbo focal reducer

I probably would have been tempted towards this camera though the lack of 10 bit was a bummer for me. If it was a better low light performer and had 10 bit it would be a really cool offering.

Seems like their are some pretty easy battery solutions but yeah. The XT3 battery life isn't great either but you can get a battery grip.

Seems like they'll be sticking to M43 for their GH line. Maybe they'd release something inbetween a GH5 and EVA1 though.

Yeah it is definitely not a bad camera for what they go for now. Considering you get 10 bit output. Its also a very fun camera to use. Nice flip out screen, nice size, battery runs forever. The original BM pocket is around the same price with similar noise performance and internal 10-12 bit recording. Its a trainwreck practically speaking though compared to the GH4 and you don't get 60fps.

I've heard that before. I've never tested it but I am pretty sure its BS. Downsampling 4k to 10bit 444 won't give you the same results as getting actual 10 bit 444 out of something like the C300 or 12 bit RAW out of a BMPCC. I didn't recommend the Pocket as it didn't seem like he needed something with that much IQ power. Definitely a good option in general though.

Opps I meant the XT30, the XT20 is a big step down. The GH5 10 bit H264 files are easier on the system than Fuji 10 bit H265. Though its likely you may have to transcode both files to prores. 4K even in 8 bit is harder to edit, depends on how fast your PC is. I always edit in 1080 for smoother playback. In general when recording 8 bit the XH1, XT30, and XT3 will all edit the same. The XT3 has the All-I recording option at 400mbps, which is less compressed, so it will edit a bit better. Huge file sizes though.

The Fuji image is more organic. You can grade with 8 bit, I honestly don't think you'll be unhappy with the XT-20. If money isn't an issue go with the XT3, but if its a choice between the XT3 or more lenses I'd get more lenses. If you use the XT3 you'll have to transcode the 10 bit files to prores or something that you can edit. H265 10 bit edits like a snail on most PCs.
