  1. I mainly use GH5 and EVA1 for my professional work so I don't really have a choice. It is full manual focus for me. But this is because the auto focus of these cameras are quite bad and extremely bad, respectively. Sometimes I missed having decent auto focus system. Especially when I have to hand the camera to my friends (who come to help me for my job), and they are used to working with Canon or Sony cameras. I even had one time when my best friend filmed the whole event totally out of focus! Manual focus vs auto focus essentially depends on one's own preference. IMO.
  2. OMG! It looks so nice and creamy. Really love the image!
  3. I was originally planing to shoot a short "music video" for one of my vocal cover. However, an event very bad happened to my city and the region I live so I didn't have the opportunity to do a proper video. Luckily I have brought the camera with me on a half-day trip to Hong Kong Disneyland. I was filming my girlfriend, as usual, and her good friend. I wasn't planing to use these footage for the challenge, so... hopefully I wouldn't get the last place because I really like this new camera! Anyway, this is a very fun competition indeed. Would love to take part again!
  4. WOW! So many details and the dynamic range is actually quite good. A well spend £133 truly.
  5. Is all hack not permitted? Or just Magic Lantern? Just saw some very cheap cameras at local stores. And what a fun challenge it is!
  6. YouTube is why I can get high grade in nearly every classes in University without really even attending lectures. 6-10 mins video is much more time efficient than 3 hours long lecture. Because of YouTube, I can study a day per exam and still do better than most classmates. So for me personally, YouTube is a savior. ? IMO, YouTube is really good search engine. There are so many good YouTubers who gives out really good information. Sometimes more information and more in-depth than formal education. There are information which I had to read some very hard to find books (writings that are centuries old) that are not in modern English (quite hard for non-English speaker like myself) 8-10 years ago. Of course it depends on the type of topic you are looking for. Certain topic has more experts talking about it. Therefore better content in general. But as far as a lot of Vloggers, I just don't find them very interesting. But I do understand there is certain appeal in this type of video. So if you are looking for information YouTube is a 10/10. If you are looking for entertainment, that really depends on your taste and lifestyle.
  7. Wow what a killer setup! I am actually very surprised that the Beringer sounds pretty good. Maybe it is your room?
  8. I shoot a lot of performances. A lot of clients here in Hong Kong don't communicate with me before the actual performance. And even if I'm at their rehearsal, sometimes they perform very differently in their actual performance. So I usually shoot the whole event with no clue what's going to happen. Somehow I've found the AF system (in Sony) can react faster than myself. I only switch the AF off when I realize it is doing something weird. 90% of the time it is doing a pretty good job. But if I'm shooting for fun, yeah definitely want to play with some old glasses. Plus it is very cool looking as well. Like I am suddenly become great at photography and videography or something. ?
  9. Thank you everyone. You guys are so helpful. I've decided to go for the NX1 because it is very cheap. I can now invest the money on other gears. I still really like the Sony A7 iii though. The footage @jonpais had post is really terrific. Natural and detailed. Perfect for documentaries, IMO. If I need the Sony A7 iii, I can still rent it. I've been renting it repeatedly since it came out. So... I guess I can live with that. In the meantime I will just save up until I can easily buy it and its lenses without breaking the bank. ?
  10. Thank you. I will definitely look into the Tamron 28-75. Looks like a solid choice. Never tried the 85 1.8 though. The ease to access to a used market is actually important for me (because I am broke). But yeah the L lenses are still very expensive even used. The good thing is you can easily sell it again for a similar price. Thanks. The footage looks amazing! The color and the clarity is so good. Can't believe this camera is already a few years old now.
  11. Yeah, the 50mm 1.8 is pretty noisy. The 55mm 1.8 is probably going to be first prime that I'm gonna buy. Thank you for the input. I agree the better Sony lenses are pretty expensive. That's why I have to rent them. ?
  12. I know right. But I've found a new deal. For 1200 USD I can get the body and this 16-50 (used)! ?
  13. To be honest, I've never actually seen one NX1 in action. ? In Hong Kong, most people are either using Canon or Sony. It is very hard to get the Samsung lenses (used or new). The used market just isn't there. The only deal I can find here is a body with the 18-55mm kit lens which cost about 600 USD in total.
  14. Thank you for your input. I can live with 8-bit 4:2:2. I don't usually do a lot of color grading anyway. As long as there's a clean signal so that I can record a whole performance with an external recorder, I am fine. And the NX1 is so much cheaper than the A7 iii... Thanks. In this case I probably should go for a Sony A7 iii. I've used it multiple times and really enjoy using it. The X-H1 didn't really get in the way, but I just find the AF system not as reliable as the Sony. Thank you. Yeah the X-H1 indeed has quite a bit of moire in the 1080P. I don't think there are as much in the 4K mode. I shoot mostly events and performances so I don't have any control of the clothing my clients will be wearing. So less moire is definitely better. Weird, I never thought of that before reading your post.? Thanks for your input. I've seen so many great photos taken by the X-H1. Maybe I still have to learn about how to use this camera properly.
  15. Thank you. I am actually very interested at the NX1. But the lenses are really hard to find here. ? Is the AF reliable on the NX1? Does it have a clean HDMI output (so that I can use an external recorder)? Thanks again.
  16. I've been working as a part time photographer and videographer for 1 year. But I always rent my camera and lenses, depending on the work that I need to do. Recently, my girlfriend wants to make a YouTube channel about cooking and finding good restaurants in Hong Kong. So I purchased a fuji X-H1 and a 16-55mm because it was a very good deal. Apart from helping her to make videos, I planned to use it for my professional shoots as well. However, I've found it not very impressive and kinda want to sell it and buy the more expensive Sony A7 III instead. Here are some of my thoughts: 1. I actually prefer the A7 III more for stills. The new Sony cameras I've rent before (A9 and A7 III) have better color and AF IMO. 2. Surprisingly I love the F-log. And I enjoy using the Eterna film stimulation as well. 3. The ergonomics of the X-H1 is better, IMO. 4. The Fuji lenses are usually much cheaper at least in the place I live. I will be very grateful if you guys can give me any advice. Thank you.
  17. Just want to say thank you for these picture profiles. The Cinema 3 and Scarlett are absolutely amazing. Works wonder on the 80D and 5D IV.
