Western governments are criminally negligent over Coronavirus
Video Hummus replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
America and Britain did have time to prepare for this. They did have a model of how this disease spreads and reacts with the population. We had observational data from China and Japan and Italy. What seemed to work and what didn’t work and what the consequences mostly likely would be (I.E. Italy) It is absolutely a failure of our govt’s to prepare the populace and our nations. They had two months to get into gear, to talk to the populace, to get people into the mindset. Instead we had govt’s that bumbled along badly with their heads up their asses and their hands in their pockets. Instead of informing the public, they mislead. Instead is leading they named called and played games. Speaking from people I know, friends, family, neighbors, It has done massive damage to the mindset of many of my fellow Americans. We are still arguing wether this is a real threat! Wether it’s a hoax. Wether It is some political conspiracy. Wether it’s just the flu. We are arguing about basic reality and we will pay dearly for it. In years of economic stagnation. In humans lives. In our mental health. And maybe even our nations themselves. Speaking of my own country. We are massively and deeply divided. I have family members that don’t talk and haven’t talked To each other since Mr. Trump was elected. Why? Because we allowed ourselves to vilify and hate. It wasn’t good enough to disagree. There are people in my family that would rather see it all burn than to work ”with the other side”. It is about taking sides. It’s all tribal and gross and disgusting now. Making it impossible to compromise or to see that we have more in common than we have differences. Will we come out better? It’s sad, but my honest answer is: Probably not. -

Same here and I’m in a rural area. Why? I don’t get it. People are really concerned about keeping their ass clean as the world ends. -

Sounds worst than my part of the US! I was on the phone with a client to reschedule, explaining about the mandatory closures etc... The man went on a tear about how its all-to-do-about nothing. That it’s just the flu and some vast political conspiracy. I just bit my tongue and listened to the man and then told him to stay safe. Honestly, some people require a 10 ton brick to fall on their head to wake-the-fuck-up. If anything, this pandemic has made it abundantly clear the ignorance? delusion? hate? All of the above? that some people have to their fellow citizens. On the plus side, a lot of people are staying home here in my area and taking it seriously. -
I don’t have much faith. It’s not about politics anymore. It’s about hate and the fear and loathing that breeds it.

I thought they said 2020 will be a focus on MFT. But at this point I have very little faith their will be a market for any camera. I might have to film the apocalypse on my GH5S...😫

COVID-19 is an RNA based virus. That means it can mutate just like Influenza. It is very important to get a vaccine and eliminate its current form as soon as possible before it mutates. The bottom line is this: the world will never be the same again. We are very likely going to be in a situation where every flu season we will have influenza and a Coronavirus outbreak.

Well... The Gov. of my State just ordered all non-essential businesses closed for 14 days. I expect it will be longer than 14 days when all said and done. So I have to close the doors and made the hard decision to lay-off 7 employees. So two weeks mandatory unpaid vacation it is for me and a ton of financial uncertainty. Time to do all those things I never have time for and hope I don’t lose businesses My wife and I have been building for a decade. Stay safe out there.

I’m going to say it will be closer to a $5K launch price and slowly work down to $4K and stay there for awhile. As with everything Canon, it’s a wait and see after all the gotchas are found out. Like no 24p in 1080p or massive rolling shutter, or record limits in 4k24p but not 30p. Head scratcher shit like that. But so far it’s looking pretty nice except for the wallet bashing it will take to buy into RF.

Masks not really useful unless you are already sick. Best you can do is wash your hands, don’t touch your face and limit your contact with people until the infection rate is under control. I’m more worried about the broader impact on my businesses. I have employees but it looks like, If the political parties put aside their grievances, we will have some financial relief for employees who become sick and can’t work. Too bad I can’t take advantage of them since I’m self-employed!

There is always some dumb mf that has to make a global calamity into some political shit throwing contest. So. Sick. Of. It.

I do cream first for coffee and bag, water, cream for tea but I am one of those savage cousins.

Anyone else notice the horrible focus breathing on the new RF 15-35? It’s like having DfD in the EOS R!
-
Simple mate. Don’t breath.
-
So glad we have some understanding! And you know...FF is awesome too! Lets hug it out and then make sure to wash our hands so we don’t get COVId-19.

Pentax playing the long game this whole time....

Might want to invest in a email delivery service and make your life easier (unless you enjoy it!).

Totally agree. It's more about how well the person behind the camera is operating it then the deficiencies of the camera its being shot on because most modern cameras are very good. We mostly nitpick...except for Panasonic not adding PDAF, thats just annoying as hell.
-
They need the money! 😁 I agree, but see below... Maybe so, but it's good enough for almost every case except extreme niche one-off shoots.. Then again, as you said, maybe just spend money on the lights and then having incredible lowlight ability virtually vanishes...because you have more lights. Those are all very, very nice to have and for me trumps the wider full frame perspective you get. I agree. And this happens every-time someone just comes out and says M43 is poopie because sensor is small and M43 users collectively roll their eyes.

Same, but we are more seasonal and I'm worried as well.

If you play John Lennon’s “Imagine All The People” on loop for 48 hours (even when you sleep) it will kill the virus. This advice comes from the top of the US Gov’t. The very top.
-
Yes it does. When the Spanish flu was spreading there was a sharp decline in infections and death but then come fall and winter it would come back (and did and killer 100s is thousands in the US alone). So having summer come to slow down the infection rate to buy time to develop a vaccine is very important. I think the worst is yet to come for the US at least. We have been slow to deploy testing kits and as we do the number of confirmed cases are rising.

Well that’s just the thing. MFT gives me options and I’m willing to take the trade offs. Ask any MFT shooter and they will tell you the same thing. There will never be a 100-400 f2.8 FF lens that fits in my cargo pocket. I can add a metabones speedbooster and get very close to “the full frame look”. The GH5 has offered 4K60p since 2017. With a speedbooster, it’s arguable been the best “super35” camera with IBIS until the XT4. Trade offs? No bullet proof autofocus. The other disadvantages of MFT are or have been addressed with technologies like dual gain sensors, speedboosters, and extremely fast native 0.95 lenses. Shallow depth of field is a style choice not a requirement. I’m of the camp that a deeper depth of field is OK. It’s OK for the audience to get a sense of the scene. So the “disadvantage” of a deeper depth of field with a crop sensor camera isn’t really a problem for me...and when it is I can fix it easily with multiple options! In fact I would say MFT operates in the sweet spot for depth of field that is most commonly used in cinema. And we rarely criticize cinema in depth of field or camera used, it’s about the story, pacing, and actors. So it’s annoying people keep repeating garbage talking points and talking down about this excellent format. And the bottom line...you can buy and use whatever you want because most clients don’t care! Garbage is garbage wether it was shot on MFT or FF.

So this is all hearsay so take it with the required dose of salt... A friend has some connections with the US CDC and they basically said that everybody is extremely worried about the scale of infections with covid-19. That’s it more of a “when” than an “if” there will be an outbreak in the US. South Korea is a good indicator of how fast this virus spreads. They basically went from tens of cases to over 1,000 in less than two weeks so there is very little room for error in containment and that has then worried mostly due to the mass panic it can cause but also the enormous strain it puts on hospitals and the effort required to contain it. Its basically a mad dash to warmer summer months with fingers crossed... But seriously the best thing to do is wash your hands and avoid touching around your eyes and hands...basic cold and flu prevention.

I have something similar and yep it’s pretty great. 18-200mm focal range with a mix of 1.7 and 2.8 apertures. I’m definitely made up my mind to get an EM1.3 with the 24-100 f/4 as a landscape/wildlife combo for those days I just want to relax and have fun shooting. Can carry all I need in one hand. Don’t need a tripod. Don’t need a gimbal. Can do landscape or wildlife on a whim, maybe even Astro. Don’t need to worry about weather or rain as the EM1.3 is probably the best weather sealed camera out there besides the EM1X. When or if we get a GH6 with GH5S lowlight ability and G9 or better stabilization then I’ll be extremely happy. In my humble opinion f/1.2 on MFT is all I need for shallow DoF. I think FF f/2 is the limit for me, anything shallower just looks like shite for video. And people use it as a crutch. Dont get me wrong. The GFX photos Andrew posted where really nice and creamy, but I consider that a special case for portrait photography. If that was a video, I’m sorry but it would be a party trick. It’s what I like to call “the FF fish bowl”. Great when you want to film in the toilet and not let the audience know where you are!
