Fuji X-H2 - They can't decide whether to cancel it... Or?
Video Hummus replied to Andrew - EOSHD's topic in Cameras
I would say, based on my Dads life, he went to the cinema to watch Kubrick films. The pokey black and white tv was for reruns and the Johnny Carson show. DR is, in my opinion, the single metric that will improve the image coming out of your camera (there are exceptions of course). S1H ranges from 13.2 to 13.7. That’s a good enough increase from previous gen to make a difference. -

A C100mk3 with 10-bit internal, clog, a decent screen, and 14 stops of DR and DPAF in all modes would do so well. No fuss, beautiful colors straight out of camera. I would rather have a solid 10-bit image than fuss around with 12-bit BRAW (good as it is) since most of the image content is consumed on compressed 8-bit streaming codecs over the Internet and viewer on phones, tablets, and laptop screens. -

Maybe conceding sensor design and manufacture to a competitor with a competing camera line wasn’t very smart? What other companies do CMOS? Fairchild Imaging (BAE Systems) Samsung. Sharp? Maybe it’s time for them to go shopping somewhere else less they keeping sucking the toes of Sony. -
I agree. The best camera for you is the one that makes you want to go out and shoot! Ive only held two Olympus cameras in my hand but they both left an impression on me. The combination of features just makes it easy and fun to shoot with. I know they get picked on for implementing Starry Sky AF and such but don’t knock it until you’ve carried it all day and realize it can bang out 50MPX landscape photos handheld, do long exposure Without filters, and end the day with some light handheld astrophotography. I just wish they would give me 10-bit 4K up 30p internal for video. But I’m still going to pick up and EM1.3 for photography. Maybe they will add 10-bit video in a firmware update. We all know it’s hardware is capable.

There is an option to turn this on in the latest firmware for GH5/GH5S/G9

NAB would have started on 11th April - Still no A7S III?

“WHY I’m SWITCHING to the SONY A7SIV”, “SONY A7SIV. T’S A BEAST”, “SHOULD You SWITCH to the Sony A7SIV? I AM SWITCHING!”, “WHY the A7SIV is THE BEST CAMERA of 2020”. 2 Weeks later... ”I’M DITCHING Sony for the CANON EOS R5!”, “GOODBYE A7SIV!”, “I’M FINALLY making the SWITCH from SONY to CANON. EOS R5 REVIEW!”, “THE BEST CAMERA of 2020. CANON EOS R5!” 1 Month later... ”WHY I’m SWITCHING back to the EOS R”, “WHY I’m SWITCHING back to my OLD CAMERA and YOU SHOULD TOO! It’s NOT About the GEAR!”, “WHY THE SONY A7SIV is NOT THE CAMERA for ME. SWITCHING BACK!”, “MY BIGGEST MISTAKE in SWITCHING from SONY to CANON and back to SONY. DON’T DO THIS!”. Tony Northrop... ”Micro Four Thirds is DEAD. SONY A7SIV REVIEW”, “CANON EOS R5 REVIEW. M43 is DEAD!”, “M43 BIGGEST MISTAKE. DON’T BUY THIS”. -
So a small update on the Sony Tough SF-M V60 cards for those that care. I've been using it for several months and have experienced multiple corrupted files even while shooting 150Mbps codec on GH5S. I was afraid it was my camera. I turned on simultaneous recording to dual card slots with a second card in it and confirmed that the Sony was corrupting files while my second card recorded the clips with no issues. Pretty disappointing for a $109 card.

You would not want your shutter speed to be changing while filming. Best bet is get an ND filter. Set your ISO at base ISO. Use the ND filter to slightly under expose your image by 1 stop maybe 2 stops at base ISO and then turn on auto ISO. The camera will now turn up or down the ISO to achieve whatever your exposure Compensation is set to. Panasonic does a good job of smoothly ramping up and down. Your exposure will change while you are shooting but if the lighting doesn’t change drastically in a frame then it won’t be noticeable. I would highly recommend also setting up the AE lock button so when it is pressed will lock in your current exposure while it is pressed. That way you are telling the camera to manage exposure for you at a fixed aperture and shutter speed while letting the ISO scale up and down to maintain a particular exposure. In darker, lowlight scenes just twist the ND to let in more light and the camera will adjust down the ISO and you’ll have less noise. I would shoot in 10-bit and use a hue selection mask in post to select the over saturated colors and bring down the saturation to mute them a bit.

Adding back motion blur after ReelSteady stabilization

This is what you want. https://revisionfx.com/products/rsmb/ -
My theory is that the horrible rolling shutter is a contributing factor in Sony’s perceived IBIS performance. But then again the S1H does really well.... After using a EM1X briefly in a photo store I’m still blown away at its ability with the correct EIS setting.

I think there is more to an image than to sound for most people. Why aren’t their sound people recording on 20 year old sound capturing devices like there are people shooting on lenses.
-
are they using high frame rates or something else to blend multiple images at different exposures?
-
Nah, they are going to draw this tease out as long as possible. So much free press with people freaking about the rumored specs (we haven’t been given the fine print to read). Really hoping it’s a turning point for Canon, myself, even though I have no interest in 8K.
-
The 4/3rd IMX594CQR is intriguing. 41MP but only shoots 4K DCI. I wonder if it does 4K 120p. Panasonic, this most likely candidate for 8K, said they aren’t ready for it in 2020. So that either means no GH6 this year, or a non-8K GH6 with oversampled 4K which would be beautiful.

I’m glad I live in a rural area. Lots of social distance in the forest.

You would need $1000 microphone to take advantage of it. And for most people it’s more than good enough. There are other questions as well as: Delivery medium (YouTube will butcher it) The hardware the person is listening on (90% probably crappy phone speakers or computer speakers or AirPods) I would say every one of those cameras except the A7III had more than good enough audio. Money better spent taking the 30 mins to learn how to clean up audio in your favorite NLE.

https://petapixel.com/2020/03/26/sony-spins-off-camera-business-into-separate-company/ They must feel like they don’t need to hide their numbers in large corporate departments.

I say ban all political discussion with a 15 days cool off ban for people who engage in it regardless of views. The next infraction gets a 30 day ban and the one after that is a lifetime ban. Just my 2 pence.

Western governments are criminally negligent over Coronavirus
Video Hummus replied to Andrew - EOSHD's topic in Cameras
America and Britain did have time to prepare for this. They did have a model of how this disease spreads and reacts with the population. We had observational data from China and Japan and Italy. What seemed to work and what didn’t work and what the consequences mostly likely would be (I.E. Italy) It is absolutely a failure of our govt’s to prepare the populace and our nations. They had two months to get into gear, to talk to the populace, to get people into the mindset. Instead we had govt’s that bumbled along badly with their heads up their asses and their hands in their pockets. Instead of informing the public, they mislead. Instead is leading they named called and played games. Speaking from people I know, friends, family, neighbors, It has done massive damage to the mindset of many of my fellow Americans. We are still arguing wether this is a real threat! Wether it’s a hoax. Wether It is some political conspiracy. Wether it’s just the flu. We are arguing about basic reality and we will pay dearly for it. In years of economic stagnation. In humans lives. In our mental health. And maybe even our nations themselves. Speaking of my own country. We are massively and deeply divided. I have family members that don’t talk and haven’t talked To each other since Mr. Trump was elected. Why? Because we allowed ourselves to vilify and hate. It wasn’t good enough to disagree. There are people in my family that would rather see it all burn than to work ”with the other side”. It is about taking sides. It’s all tribal and gross and disgusting now. Making it impossible to compromise or to see that we have more in common than we have differences. Will we come out better? It’s sad, but my honest answer is: Probably not. -

Same here and I’m in a rural area. Why? I don’t get it. People are really concerned about keeping their ass clean as the world ends. -

Sounds worst than my part of the US! I was on the phone with a client to reschedule, explaining about the mandatory closures etc... The man went on a tear about how its all-to-do-about nothing. That it’s just the flu and some vast political conspiracy. I just bit my tongue and listened to the man and then told him to stay safe. Honestly, some people require a 10 ton brick to fall on their head to wake-the-fuck-up. If anything, this pandemic has made it abundantly clear the ignorance? delusion? hate? All of the above? that some people have to their fellow citizens. On the plus side, a lot of people are staying home here in my area and taking it seriously. -
I don’t have much faith. It’s not about politics anymore. It’s about hate and the fear and loathing that breeds it.
