  1. Well with a 54mm diameter for R mount there is plenty of room. L mount is ~52mm. So badically comes down to IBIS mechanism.
  2. Clearly the new processor in the 1DX is pretty capable. That leaves thermal head room in an R body. They super sample in the 1DX. My guess is they will stick with SD cards, which means no RAW at ridiculous bitrates. Which is fine with me. 10-bit Canon Log is more than capable at 480Mbps+ All-I. Current V90 cards can handle up to 640Mbps leaving a 80Mbps headroom for I/O overhead.
  3. Uh, most large, older companies are filled with this kind of crap...
  4. 10-bit internal C-Log, IBIS, and 4K no crop with decent rolling shutter And DPAF and I’m in for less than $4K. Dont care about 8K. 5.5K RAW is a “nice to have” but mostly likely impractical with media storage costs but could change.
  5. Please Canon, you know you want to. I’ll be your fanboy forever. I’ll even use your camera straps!
  6. Another excellent release from media division. His stuff is on the level with most TV show productions in all honesty. Same length too.
  7. My problem is I never can stay with on setup. So for me flexibility is key. So for me: Nothing should be bolted down. Everything should be easily moved and setup in less than 10 minutes. Mount points everywhere. If you can mounting NATO rails in key places with magic arms on NATO clamps to hold cameras, mics, booms, lights, whatever... supwr clean space with no clutter to juggle or move around. Have a closet that is filled with your gear organized the way you want it. That being said it’s nice to have something that works and stick with it...but I prefer to ease the friction between idea to execution as much as possible. How many times have you been like, “oh this would be cool...and then the hassle of trying to setup for it ends in a “fuck it”. Probably just me 😉. I really like calebs idea. And I really enjoy those flex lights that are foldable and DIY easy stuff like using shower curtains or wax paper.
  8. I think the SL2 is a sleeper for video. I have been looking at more footage and its like a Panasonic S1R done right. I love a lot of what Panasonic does but sometimes their image is just...to clean, and hence suffers from that digital look SooC. The SL2 doesn't do that aggressive noise reduction and with L-log and Leica color mojo the footage looks incredible. Biggest downside is moire and the just awful AF. Blackmagic is incredibly organic looking as well. But their cameras are just..butt ugly and build quality has been hit and miss and of course no AF. The price is right, so we can't have it all, I guess. This leaves Canon. IF Canon released a capable 4K60p camera with DPAF and their wonderful (and easy) SooC goodness it would be a huge hit. I rip on Canon a lot but I would buy that camera and sell my Panny gear because of the sheer convenience and reliability of SooC goodness and best in class AF that only requires a slight massage in post production.
  9. I want 6K. I would shoot almost anything except a static talking head in 6K for the many benefits it gives you including flexibility to crop, image stabilization, downsampling and noise reduction into a 4K deliverable. Of course things are moving to 8K but I think the uptake on 8K content is going to be extremely slow. Much, much slower than 4K as the benefits are increasingly diminishing for the storage and processing costs. 6K is a happy medium for a long time to come for anybody not shooting nature films for National Geographic.
  10. It’s about that time for Tony to release a MFT is dead video. He does one every 3 months or so. He will definitely use these specs to prove he’s right this time...
  11. I’m really interested to see where the actual specs land. If it offers 4K/60p no crop and pixel binned then that’s good enough for me. 4K120p with a heavy crop and no AF is fine with me. Oversampled 4K24/30p would be amazing. Dual pixel in every mode up to 60p would be killer as well as roughly 13.5 stops DR to compete with S1H.
  12. I should note the circle in the bottom right is the best value for the money...its probably a Sony F3 or something....or some other older, used, cinema camera that has seen some shit.
  13. Guys, guys. This is the videography and photography world. You have to teach him to be really toxic first so he has a fighting chance in the first place. First of all, you can't use more than one camera brand. IF you do, you're lost. You have to choose one brand and then go all in...buy brand merch and invest at least 10K into the system. You then have to shun and look down on anybody that uses a different camera, why? Because they are dumb and not smart like you. Got it? Good. Second, EVERY camera that is NOT YOUR CAMERA has terrible color science. This is fact. Third, it's always, without exception, all about the gear. Dropping 3K on a new camera WILL make you a BETTER photographer/videographer. Don't believe anybody that tells you otherwise because they probably shoot on a point-and-shoot (this is very, very bad). Fourth, never talk to a Pentax owner. This rule has no exceptions. Do not break it. Fifth, and final, when you switch your camera brand you have to start from step 1 all over again. Good Luck and fast shutters!
  14. Well, in any case. A very good used car price.
  15. hmm, I still think this is hype and we will see the usually bizarre crippling but if it is true... I might invest in RF and canon. 8K is more than I’ll ever need. If they can deliver no crop 4K up to 60p (120p is icing on the cake) with dual pixel auto focus, 10 bit Clog, IBIS and color science then good on Canon. The S1H is that now but without good AF. Which is a real shame because they make great cameras and give the people what they want and I trust them more than Canon. But autofocus performance, if not sorted out, will kill any future Panasonic cameras I’m afraid. But man oh man, those RF lens prices pucker the ol’ b-hole. Say $2799 for the new R5, $2,299 for 15-35, and $2,799 for 70-200... Thats $8K...
  16. Last time I checked, my phone didn't have a fan and is extremely compact. Let me check again....Yup. Yet, RED has a heatsink on their sensors....and feels it's important to give you temp readouts for their sensor. MY guess, is that the DSPs they are using are still stuck on old process nodes, even as old as 55nm. Compare that to the latest Apple and Samsung devices at 7nm. A lot less heat and voltage at 7nm.
  17. I like how they are now stepping back from the original article "rumors" hype. I really do think the Fuji X-T4 is going to shake things up. It really is going to put a hurt on MFT and Panasonic, not so much the FF crowd.
  18. They are still working out a deal to get 24p in 1080 on the 1DX3.
  19. I did not know the FZ2500 had a built in ND. Dreaming of having a sweet little ND selector on the GH camera! Please, panny!
  20. @wolf33d 's wait may finally come to an end! 😁 3 long years....
  21. Vlog does have the custom view assist .VLTs...otherwise, I don't see many drawbacks to shooting CineD.
  22. Apple should make a FCPX Lite for the iPad that allows you to preview footage, mark, cut, trim, favorite, and keyword footage and then bring it into FCPX on Mac with a few clicks and the iPad within a couple feet of the desktop Mac. Like a seamless project airdrop. It would make categorizing and find your selects in the field much easier when its fresh.
