  1. If Olympus had 10-bit and a decent codec it would fit better into the MFT gear I already have.
  2. Would they though if the GH5S offered internal ProRes and a CFExpress card from the outset? I would have definitely (still) bought GH5S if it had that. I think that is where they messed up. People are willing to pay extra for it. They aren’t willing to pay extra for less, unless something is really important to them. They should have added things like false colors and a better vector scope. Punch in while recording...but they couldn’t because they were limited with the GH5 processing engine. Why didn’t they include 4K60p 10-bit? GH5S was a death by a thousand cuts. Market wise. It’s a great camera at its current price. Hopefully they fix these problems in the GH6. Andrew is right. They should just pay the license fee and offer the internal ProRes or some compressed RAW. It’s time. Does ProRes HQ offer superior quality over Panasonic’s 400Mbit ALL-I? Probably not much. Definitely not for the storage increase, but it sure does speed up workflow, which is the most cost effective thing you can improve. That extra $250 license fee Panasonic made you pay will be paid off real quick. I speculate definitely an announcement in 2020 and release early 2021. We still have industry shows coming up soon. Panasonic should be in forums like these to figure out what they should put in the GH6. Yes, BM has an advantage. Mostly due to color science and how they process the image compared to the S. The GH5S still leans too much into consumer camera.
  3. I agree. Perhaps REDs licensing terms are extreme and don’t make business sense for anybody. Otherwise would would have seen internal RAW by now, even if it was like $200 per unit sold or 20% per unit sold. What did Canon get out of The RED RF deal? Clearly no compressed RAW in the 1DXM3. Perhaps they just don’t get sued.
  4. Eh well, my GH5S vote went into the GH5 pile as that was not an option. Surprised not more Sony. Big winner here is MFT.
  5. I have a GH5S. It’s a great camera. I do wish Panasonic would have payed more attention to it to make it more competitive, feature wise. The sensor is clearly capable of a bit more since it shares the same sensor in the P4K, Terra4K, Zcam E2... I think however, it being built on top of the GH5 platform and not given more leg room put it at a disadvantage. I still bought mine after seeing the P4K release because I value the weather sealing and build quality. I would say despite the FF hysteria the little MFT sensor in these cameras proved to be very popular and met the needs and wants of those that bought the cameras. With the success of the P4K I think it has shown that their is a demand for a MFT camera that has IBIS, a dual gain sensor, and a bit more power features for those that need them: ProRes, RAW, 4K60p+. im hopefully Panasonic will make the GH6 that camera. I don’t think their will be another MFT BM camera.
  6. I’ve commented several times on Media Divisions videos and he has replied. I get the impression he is frustrated with the slow growth on YouTube. But I’m afraid YouTube very much favors bottom of the barrel crap content for the kiddies. That’s how they make their money. If he had a channel membership or a Patreon I would donate.
  7. I love the bathroom scene where he injects himself into the film.
  8. I just bought a 128GB Sony Tough SF-M V60 card. No problems so far with 400Mbps All-I. I'm a bit worried about the write speed falling off over time, though. Hopefully it will last long enough until V90s drop in price. $209 for a 128GB is just too much.
  9. The Terra 4K, I think, shares the same sensor with the GH5S and BMPCC4K but offers a ton of recording options. Phillip Bloom shot some excellent footage with it. 4K 100fps, CDNG RAW, and Apple ProRes HQ Internal. The only place the GH5S falls down is with VFR past 60fps and at ISO greater than 400. Otherwise you get horrible horizontal noise in shadows. Although if you use Near Video and create a custom profile for those noisy ISOs Neat video will effectively remove it. 120fps is Good. 180fps is OK. 240fps is very soft. Only other wish is that the S did 4K60p in 10-bit. Oh well. Can’t wait for the GH6. Maybe we will get the our IBIS with dual iso performance and 4K60p and 6K 10-bit and ProRes Internal!
  10. HDMI 2.0 would have a sufficient data rate at 14.4 Gbps and supports up to 16bits (but not at 4K). HDMI 2.1 can do up to 42.6 Gbps. How Atomos is using that bandwidth I’m not sure...
  11. But they do have a MILC that shoots 10-bit 5.9K at around same price point. I think you're right. The SL2 is highly likely a S1R inside but with some unique Leica sauce inside as far as processing and color science, which is like 70% of a camera anyway because at the end of the day it's about the final image and technological excellence on it's own does not always make a pleasing image. It's also why when Canon finally makes a mirrorless camera with 10-bit, 4K, in a EOS R sized body and limited rolling shutter, I'll probably buy into the system.
  12. `This is the camera industry in one sentence but the people are clothed...so we don't even win there either...
  13. Thats a good question and apparently really hard to compare to a camera. For one, our "sensor" in the back of our eye is curved. The final image is also a composite from both eyes of a really wide angle of view around 130 degrees. Our image processor, our brain, reconstructs this to form a 3D mental image that is seemingly distortion-free and roughly (and this is approaching an apples to oranges comparison) 15-20MP of resolution and roughly 15 stops of focusing dynamic range but up to 24 stops of scene dynamic range (after our brain applies proprietary HDR processing, lol). ISO performance ranges from ISO 1-1000. Hear, cameras have us beat. https://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/cameras-vs-human-eye.htm
  14. How about this: "Ooh, that lens is approaching zero!" Also: "The f-number of the human eye varies from about f/8.3 in a very brightly lit place to about f/2.1 in the dark". Maybe thats why f/1.2 looks so unnatural to me. See Tony's video (yeah that tony) to see why!
  15. I really enjoy Media Division. I love how he deep dives into topics with history and backstory. His shooting style is easy going yet beautiful. He likes his Panasonic cameras too! I love to grab a cup of coffee and watch his stuff. He doesn’t post often though, which kinda, weirdly, makes things more enjoyable. Its like slow food, or slow travel, you just enjoy it more. even though YouTube demands quantity of quality.
  16. He makes jokes about it. I think pewdiepie is pretty self aware he makes all this money doing pretty stupid things. But yes, he is a multimillionaire with multiple houses around the world. At least one in Brighton and now one in Japan.
  17. Only if you choose to review gear like all the rest do.
  18. Agreed. But I’ve also watched a lot of things that have been motivating. It’s all about balance. Gear channels like potato jet work because we all like our gear. We like new things. Improved things. But it has gotten extremely stale for me as of late. Everybody on YouTube seems to morph into a brand because that’s the only way to make money. It’s all starting to blur for me. Everything is the same shit. And as much as Peter McKinnon or Matti think they are filmmakers or don’t want to be labeled as “influencers” they are in essence influencers that use their clout to peddle corporate products to their fans bases. Is it bad? Well, it’s the same as TV except even more successful. I don’t know why any corporations would spend so much on TV ads when YouTube ads and sponsored deals with select youtubers is cheaper and more effective. Im not going to by an EOS R from a TV ad. If I watched some sponsored video from a YouTuber (Matti for example; and yes Canon sponsored those videos by giving you a free camera!) I’ve chosen to watch, im much much more likely to buy It. Look at the launch of the Insta 360 R, peak design tripod, DJI Mavic whatever. It’s all the same corporate talking points on different sets. I think there is tremendous space left in YouTube for unique and engaging content with an original spin from people that aren’t brands, or have managers, or company logos.
  19. This. He also rents gear to other productions. The rest is sponsored deals.
  20. This video is a master class of how not to film yourself. When your too lazy to compose and frame your subject with your environment... I know it’s not cinema, it’s a YouTube video...but it was incredibly hard to watch and listen too. Hopefully Tony continues to use this style in 2020 ?
  21. My guess, based on the sensor, is it will offer 8K at 24p with OK quality. But probably hit it out of the park with stills image quality for MFT shooters. @androidlad any other MFT sensor tidbits or more specs for the IMX594CQR?
  22. Excited to finally get V4 for GH5S. Thanks for all the hard work.
  23. I would love a small device like this that takes or mounts a Samsung T5 or smaller SSD drive and I can feed an HDMI signal from my GH5S and get my ProRes. Mostly because the cost be GB on SSD is so much lower.
  24. Autel Evo 2 now sporting your choice of an 8K or a 1 inch sensor 6K camera on a drone with 40 minute flight times.
