I wish the camera was a bit better. Seems it performs the best in 60p HDR. I’m wondering about the 24/30p modes. Ive crashed my original Mavic Pro. And it wasn’t really my fault. I took my eyes off it for less than 3 seconds in a seemingly stable hover. In those 3 seconds in managed to drift into a rock wall and tumble to the ground into a pool of water. Ever since then I’ve wanted a drone like skydio 2. The ability to fly it manually with a controller but have it assist in not hitting things is my holy grail in a drone. Mavic 2 Pro is pretty effective but not like this. The SkyDio 2 only uses user input as intent and pretty much flys itself. I love it.

So who decides what is law and how it will be enforced in this 1% gov’t? Or are proposing wild west and prairie justice? Have you driven on a road lately? Who built it? Flown in a plane to somewhere? Who made sure it didn’t collide with another plane? How did you buy your cameras? And with what? Did you pay in sea shells and gold flakes? I get that gov’t doesn’t work for everybody. Gov’t fails people, sometimes in spectacular ways. But throwing out, wholesale, a system that frankly you use everyday for even the tiniest niceties in your life is asinine. Reform it. Don’t destroy it. Frankly I agree with you on one aspect. There is way to much emotion and not enough self-awareness in this day and age. If only we could debate the Ideas and politics like we do the image out of a camera. But frankly, emotion seeps it’s way into that too. God help us.

Panasonic S1 V-LOG -- New image quality king of the hill
Video Hummus replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Right now the camera only starts continuously focusing when you press record in AFC mode. This option allows you to have it do it in live view mode as well before you even press record. -
Good luck! I can confirm that “Near/Far Shift AF” only operates in the AF-S mode. It behaves exactly like using the AF-On button except it will give the camera more information about your “intent” and ignore potential focus subjects in either the near or far plane. It does not act like a focus limiter in AFC. This is kinda disappointing for me as I thought in AFC it would act like a type of focus limiter. Say you are vlogging in AFC. You press AF Near Shift Focus On and it would acquire focus in AFS—favoring near subjects—lock focus, switch back to AF-C and then continue to favor near subjects and ignore potential far subjects after that. In essence giving the camera a focus limit or a fence to work in based on the initial Near/Far shift AF button press. “Focus on my face, ignore far subjects, but if something nearer to the camera comes into frame try to focus on it, when it leaves frame try to acquire focus but don’t try to focus on something passed my face (or the distance my face was when I pressed the AF Shift button). This would mitigate the dreaded focus drift and back focus problems.

I'm not sure how this AF Near / Far Shift works. I assigned them to buttons and it seems to trigger a refocus but there is no indication on screen that it is in this mode when recording and in AF-C mode. Any ideas from people that have updated? EDIT: I’m worried the Near/Far shift is only AF-S and not AF-C, meaning it doesn’t tell the camera to ignore near objects when in Far Shift mode in AF-C and vice versus. The updated manual doesn’t really clarify either.

Make sure the SSD is formatted and is using the ExFAT file system. How old is your Mac and what version of MacOS are you using?

Really enjoying the flexibility of the 10-25mm f/1.7. It's a great lens when you can use the Ex-Tele features of the GH5 or GH5S. GH5S only allows Ex-Tele in 1080p modes but that offers a 2.7x enhancement and makes the 10-25 a very flexible lens in this mode. The GH5 can get a 1.4x enhancement in 4K.

Yes, you can change motor speeds and even the power of the individual axis on the fly straight from the little screen. This is a huge feature! And it blows the SC out of the water for this reason alone for me. I could easily have the focus motor on as well with this setup. I think the sigma 18-35 + speed booster will be way to front heavy. The EVF will hit the rear motor for sure. So only upright only with that setup.

Panasonic S1H review / hands-on - a true 6K full frame cinema camera

Don’t forget they also support BRAW on the EVA-1 with the new blackmagic recorders as well. Looks amazing. -
Can confirm GH5S + 10-25 f/1.7 with a Smallrig L-Bracket cage balances perfectly on the Weebill-S. I also have an 8Sinn cage but it won’t balance perfectly due to the bump out of the cage cold shoe mount on the right side hitting the roll axis arm. The motors can still handle it and it works pretty well; just not optimal. First impressions? Footage is pretty smooth straight out of camera. Still need warp stabilizer if you want butter smooth footage. For $439 it’s a great gimbal. Love the size. But...I still can’t wait to have improved IBIS and EIS in future cameras so I don’t need a gimbal. EDIT: To clarify you need warp stabilizer for butter smooth footage on the GH5S that doesn’t have IBIS. Any camera that does have IBIS will work like a dream with this gimbal.

Olympus E-M5 MK III - coming in October
Video Hummus replied to Marcio Kabke Pinheiro's topic in Cameras
Right? I can’t wait for GH6 or a EM1.3. I just got a Weebil S gimbal. It’s great but after using it for about 30 mins I was like I can’t wait until I don’t have to use something like this. Just so much faster to translate the movements you want with your arms and hands and a good ninja walk. Im also thinking about picking up a EM5.3 for photo and for occasional video. So many people knock it and then say after using it it makes photography fun again. -
Well UHS-II spec allows for 312MB/s or 2496Mbps transfer rates. Hence why the Sigma fp caps out at CinemaDNG 8-Bit UHD internal at 25p, which is around 1670Mbps. They could probably do more but there is definitely some overhead and transfer and they need at least 10-15% wiggle room for SD card inconsistencies. ProRes HQ 4K 60p requires about 1786Mbps ProRes RAW 4K 60p requires about 1680Mbps You could do ProRes RAW on a UHS-II SD card. As for the CFExpress on the S1. Probably for quickly clearing the buffer of the S1R burst shooting High MP raw images. Both cameras share everything except sensor. So it’s just easier and cheaper to have a common body for manufacturing reasons.

Of course! Sounds ridiculous right? Just swap “car” with “camera” and “engine cylinders” with “resolution” and “speed” with “frames per second” and you have essential what the RED patent is. Bayer sensors existed before RED Bayer data existed before RED. The jpeg2000 Compression existed before RED. Hence adding “two more cylinders” is the same as RED adding “Bayer compression” to existing technology and then essentially getting a patent for “cars with certain sized engine going faster than X speed (a camera recording at 4K Bayer resolution at least 23 fps). All that shit existed before except the jpeg2000 compression to Bayer data. I have no problem with that part. Putting OBVIOUS things like FPS and resolution gives RED a blanket patent on compressed BAYER data 4K and up at 23 FPS and up. Which is absolutely ridiculous. If the patent instead said 4K and up at least 23FPS using X unique algorithm implementation then that’s fine. REDs patent is a blanket patent on ANY implementation. What if I have a better algorithm that improves on jpeg2000. Nope, RED by defaults owns that space from 4K to infinity and 23 FPS to infinity. It’s complete bullshit. Ans what about stills cameras? That have been shooting compressed RAW for years before RED was even a twinkle in Jim’s eye? Suddenly they can’t shoot more than 23 FPS because they will be infringing on REDs patent NOT because they are using the same compression technology as RED but simply because they hit a arbitrary number that RED claims an patent over. It’s moronic.

Yep. Or Ferrari had the genius idea to add two more cylinders to a 6 cylinder engine and was granted a patent for “internal combustion engine with no less than 8 cylinders and a speed of at least 80kph” No other car could now go as fast as 80kph unless they had an engine with less than 8 cylinders. Its madness

Don’t worry. Panasonic has secret alien DfD AF tech. It’s just hard to wrap your head around because you have to achieve focus by defocus...yesh...Einstein didn’t get it either. This shits much harder than space time.
-
Well I’m not entirely surprised by this. Expect to see worse options for consumers and higher prices.
-
Also, compression with H.265 tends to scale better than linearly with increasing resolution. So 200Mbps in HEVC is respectable.

Ah, I see. I haven’t had any technical issues in the States with viewing Vimeo content. They also have a piss poor copyright strike system like YouTube as well.

Is there something technically wrong with Vimeo delivery?

Thanks for sharing your hands on experience @Geoff_L. Sounds like an amazing trip. The Panasonic G9 + PL 200 f2.8 + TC is an amazing combo for Tele use and even better now that the G9 has been given an amazing buff.
