Damn, didn’t know this. Well they will just have to put the ND in the GH6 body ?

As Towd said, the autofocus improvements in the S1 are a combination of new algorithms, dedicated AF chip, and new lens motor designs in the L series lenses. They are working together to try to eliminate or at least dampen the pulsing effect (its seems to be way less noticeable in firmware v1.2) in Panasonics DfD. I'm in the same boat. I prefer lighter and smaller kit with good features. I think they need to nail a few key areas for the GH6 to be a hit. 1. Improve upon the IBIS; 7.5 stops minimum with an OIS lens. 2. Improve high ISO performance. 3. More megapixels for stills photography. 4. 14 stops minimum for dynamic range 5. A L-mount to MFT adapter with a built in ND of some sort, electronic or otherwise to increase the synergy with their L-Mount. Anyway, the S1 seems to becoming a compelling camera. Hope its not too late...

Looks like we won't see a main competitor to HEVC until late 2020 or 2021 when some phones will start shipping with AV1 hardware decoding. AV1 is also substantially slower than HEVC and VP9 for encoding (it's main hindurance atm) but has roughly 20% higher data compression than VP9 or HEVC/H.265 and 50% or more than AVC/H.264. Hopefully it will take off because it's highly efficient video data compression and royalty free, which means companies and hardware manufactures will have a lower cost of entry for hardware accelerated silicon. Hardware accelerate all the things so to speak—from TV set-top boxes, to cameras, phones, and GPUs.

Its because Google uses VP9 only codec for its 4K and Apple refuses to add it to OS X because of licensing issues or preferences. Try using chrome browser...and see if it works.

My apologies to Gunpowder.

@Mattias Burling Gunpowder better have gotten a good pat and possibly a treat for all his hard work. Results where interesting indeed. I agree with the conclusions. Just get out and shoot with what you have it’s probably more than good enough unless you are doing some kind of special case of shooting (green screen) or extreme grades where you want to change one color to another. Also let it be known to @DBounce that I picked B and it happened to be an EOS R. He should be happy.

This is exactly why companies started the AV1 consortium to take on H.265 and it’s crazy parent issues buy building their own codec jointly. Google, Amazon, Netflix, and now Apple are part of AV1. 1. To put pressure on the patent holders to change the usage terms 2. To just outright replace it if they don’t. Funnily enough, Apple has been putting in dedicated H.265 hardware in their T2 chips and phones. I don’t expect AV1 to be in any devices widespread for a long time though.

This is a classic strategy. Build a brand name on quality, craftsmanship then pivot hard to pure profit cash cow. Claim your product has some special sauce and charge 10x the price of competitors while delivering the exact same product.

What kind of external HD would you use with a 2019 Mac Mini?

OK, I’ve been looking at this little machine too. Here is what I was thinking: Max CPU, 16 gigs ram, 256gb SSD internal, with the 10GbE addon so I can plug a Synology NAS 1618+ (or newer model) for teh mass storages. Run the OS off the internal smallest SSD drive. Buy a couple of Samsung SSD for fast attached storage. Upgrade to an eGPU when prices go down. Also, why didn’t apple make this thing twice as tall (I think we would all forgive them) and put a quad core and a dedicated graphics (even low-end). Not sure if this has any practical benefits over a iMac since eGPUs take a bit of a performance hit. -
It releases July 25th I believe. So I bet shipments are being made to distributors and to reviewers. I think it’s aimed at video people and the 18-35. The Voigtlanders are indeed nice and have more character but they are manual only, cost $2600 to cover the same focal range and need to be swapped out. Im excited to have something like this with AF, click-less aperture, and very limited focus breathing (not sure if the Voigtlander have that). Can wait to slap a promist filter to soften the sharpness and see what it can do.

B & K for the good boy. Lake was hard, I guess L. None of them really stood out.

Stumbled upon this gem. Zeiss 35mm 1.4 ZE

Yeah, to be honest my settings for Cine-d change all the time. I mostly just shoot HLG and either conform it myself in DaVinci (still learning this) or use Paul Lemming HLG to rec709 LUT. I am sure there are other profiles settings that are better. I’ve probably had them set at one point!

Contrast -1 Sharpness -5 Noise Reduction -1 Saturation -1 Hue 0 You can turn noise reduction to -5 too if you want to handle that in post or you don't want the camera to do it.

I think it looks pretty good. Almost any video viewed via the web is going to get compressed because its the dominate distribution format today. The output in this video looks good to me.
