What I find astonishing is that it hasn’t been beaten in its category until, well, Panasonic S1 series release. I really hope Panasonic recognizes the potential and the expectations of the GH6 and rises to the challenge.
-
I’ve noticed a bit of a bump in DR over the GH5. Especially if you use the HLG profile has a capture profile only. Panasonic has said that removing the IBIS allows more thermal wiggle room with what they could do. So far, I don’t think they have actually done anything with it. If they became more serious about the GH5S and added things like external ProRes Raw support via HDMI, more interesting internal codec options. I don’t think it will ever have RAW unless external or something like a magic lantern hack for it.

I bought the GH5S before the P4K was released. I’ve said many times Panasonic needs to give GH5S a bit of love with firmware updates and perhaps a price drop. Because who would buy it when the P4K has BRAW and internal ProRes? In my uses, like shooting in rainy conditions, and blowing wind in Iceland and Norway, the P4K would have been toast.

I believe it’s 100Mbps longGOP. I’m not sure what the effective per frame bitrate is.

Yes, this thread has dipped into the muck a bit.

OK, so I finally got some time today to shoot a few shots with the PL 50-200 I received a few weeks ago. I'm very pleased with this lens. Everything shot in 4Kp24 at 150Mbps LongGOP in HLG on GH5S.

Those are some sweet deals for people wanting to upgrade.

Help The Camera Manufactures Choose Must Have Features
Video Hummus replied to DBounce's topic in Cameras
I want em all! I tried to limit to three but ended up picking four. Dynamic range, IBIS, built in ND, and weather sealing / build quality. I wish Olympus would do better for video. I really love their build quality. They are truly rugged and weather sealed. -
The train is obviously leaning heavily to the left. It’s bad and looks unrealistic. No “panPan” in that shot. People blog on the EOS R. There is a lot of panning when they flip the camera around or spin at all. No one wants to get in a pissing match about your camera and that you love it. Many people (even people who own it) express disappointment with Canon with it. It has some great features but a lot of compromises people can’t get over.

It will look like a 18-45 f3 on a GH5S. Which is even a bit more wide. On a GH5 with ETC it can be a 20-75 f3.5. If one doesn’t already have fast prime already (I don’t) this is a no brainer purchase. Especially since it has manual focus clutch and reduced focus breathing and a stepless aperture wheel for smooth aperture changes.

Shot on GH5 and GH5S with the new lens. Looks really good to me. This lens with ETC is a powerhouse.

I have the same hunch as well. They are probably taking the time to design a whole new body for future cameras as well. Maybe even chipsets and all. Shooting at 4Kp60 with PDAF in chip and eye AF is probably challenging on the hardware. Why can’t they bring this to GH5/S? It’s just a software update. Please Panny!
-
But PDAF isn’t DPAF so it’s still crap ?
-
Whoops I quoted a selection of a qoute inside your post. Sorry.
-
Expect to see higher prices everywhere. They better deliver with the GH6.
-
At this point it’s possible. The press release didn’t do this camera justice apparently.
-
This single photo tells us more than that whole press conference. What. The. Hell. 1. Active cooling. 2. Flip screen. What else does it have that they neglected to leave out of an important press announcement? How many people have been screaming for a capable full frame camera with a flip screen?! God, they bungled this announcement. They needed to create buzz and excitement. But it’s been named the most underrated camera of 2019 by Matti Hapaaja. Never mind it’s only June 2019. Never mind he received two free cameras from canon and “wasn’t paid” for his views. Uh huh. Boogles my mind that Panasonic did not try to hype this up. I mean canon can hype a 5DIV in 2019 (EOS R).

Pretty interesting. The S1 is a bargain with almost everything except 6K and full frame 4K60p. This thing could still have legs with firmware updates since they designed it with thermals in mind. Extremely odd they didn’t not mention bitrates. Maybe still a work in progress?

Yeah, this is spot on. I’m still excited for the release and hope there are some more surprises. I really enjoy Panasonic cameras. They get a lot right with ergos and menus systems, codecs options, and firmware upgrades. I enjoy using my GH5S way more than when I had a A7iii. I think the image looks way better and has more weight to it. I’m don’t put bokeh as high on my list as other people. I do wish though that if they can’t improve their CDAF then they should use PDAF in the meantime. I think the S1 has improved in that regard, not a leap, but a skip and a hop. I do wish they would continue to push the boundaries like they did with the GH5 2 years ago with things like built in vari-NDs in DSLR form factor.

Yes, Fujifilm is taking the mistakes of other companies of NOT releasing compelling and interesting products and capitalizing on them. If the release of the S1H doesn’t reveal any new features this camera is dead in the water. It’s not really that innovative. Especially since Sony A7siii is like a huge shark in the water everybody knows is there but can’t see (technology wise; I think their ergos and codecs suck).
-
R = resolution, S = speed (?), and the H = heat ?
-
Another door opens for Fujifilm to walk through. Honestly looks like a side project about how to control heat better in a camera with IBIS and they decided to offer it as a product. Maybe the lessons learned will be passed down the a GH camera.

It's all speculation right now but IMHO they need to nail a few key features for this to be something special: Built-in variable ND 6K 24p and a HFR 4K greater than 60p internal 14 stops of usable dynamic range Internal ProRes offerings IBIS (but only if it has an effective IBIS LOCK function)
