Andrew, excuse me for going a bit off topic. But I regard EOSHD and your work. I came to photography and videography as a hobby and now it has become part of my full time job. I remember my first steps on the internet, like paying 1€ at the internet-cafe to watch the trailer for star wars because my internet at home was so slow 😄 But I learned a lot from early video tutorials (ryan wieber for lightsabers and videocopilot, even though his tutorials became kinda stale), online forums and blogs were a great source of knowledge and information, with some strange guys of course, but thats the nature of it. Nevertheless, a community and as long as there´s no gatekeeper, great exchange was possible. the evolution of youtube into "cable tv" is in fact really bad. sure, you don´t have to like every aspect and genre a platform offers, but the amount of crap content and nonsens is enormous. Facebook is a similar thing. I began using it very early and it was great to stay in contact with my friends after leaving school and starting university. the first versions of the app and the messenger, all nice additions and well integrated. but what is it now? my feed is basically 90% braindead, idiotic, AI-created shit that I am supposed to look at. I only log in because I manage some accounts for work and I to use some groups for knowledge in resolve and audio recording. but facebook as it was intended is long gone. I still think that youtube, besides all the shit, still is a source of great information and knowledge. but you have to dig through a lot of mudd to reach the gold. The thing is, a lot of the accounts and characters i dislike, gain a lot of attraction for some reason. I just want to support overacting, narcicistic media prostitutes, that praise each and every product as long as there´s some reward for them. To some part that is the case for the mentioned cat owner. It became a 50% work 50% my life show, where the ration before was maybe 80:20. Me personally, I don´t watch this kind of television, I despise all forms of "reality TV" and scripted BS productions. If I look at the accounts I subscribed on YouTube, a lot of them haven´t posted for quite a while. Some of them do, but either with a lot of partnerships, product placements etc. If some of them can talk about this and make things transparent, I may be willing to watch it, but as soon as there´s clear bias I´m out. So many clips have become 70% this is the best product ever, it can make your dreams come true, just buy it and you will see, 30% real information and something you can take away and learn. I´d like blogging to make a return. Maybe in a typewriter font and with 800px only image sizes. back to basics, information and knowledge first. I´d like that. And on a side note: EOSHD not only kept the name, it even survived forums like BMDuser and others, that just died a slow death or ended instantly.

Fo me, Youtube has become a minefield of people to avoid. I do watch a lot of different genres, movie reviews and analyses, album reviews, stuff related to cameras and gear and back then, clips about 9/11 or similar topics. Like some of you already said, it has changed a lot and besides the average production value rarely to the better. While movie reviewers were mostly nerds that found a way to escape the forums and message boards and connect in another, more accessible way, a lot of them and newer characters now often aren´t genuine anymore. you can see this with a lot of channels that once were kinda independent and now have connections to major studios, get invited to premieres etc. The same goes with cameras. where once enthusiasts tried to show their equipment, taught and talked about new features, there is this whole industry of clips from those characters, released on the same day, mostly praising stuff while often disregarding flaws or playing them down. And while with movies and music this might be more subjective, it isn´t that much with technology. I still like the platform and use it a lot, I know the accounts I avoid like the plague. Most of them help you with the moronic thumbnails but with the others, I avoid the names. Rarely, there is a new channel, with great content, and less to no connection to any major brand, studio, corporation etc. It is totally fine for them if they want to sell presets/corses/ebooks etc. and remind you once during the video, as long as the clip itself can stand on its own. No problem with that. skipable sponsoring can be done in an annoying way, or it can blend into the video. As for shills vs. journalists it is a difficult situation. a shill, and nothing more, is basically a modern day prostitute without having an OF-Account, jounalists often lack the objective perspective and sometimes mix too much (of their) opinion into it. so yeah, on one hand they lack the "personality" of the YouTuber/Shill, but they sometimes fail to use their platforms strength, that being the pilars of good journalism and the values that they bring. So I do value YouTubers, that stick to certain guidelines and don´t bend over as soon as Disney/Warner or Sony/Canon comes waving at them. When it comes to Twitter/X, I really don´t like the blocking-culture, since it hinders a discussion even if you have different opinions. So much of our debate culture, even in universities, has been lost and replaced with "I won´t even talk to you, you..." That being said, I would like to have a Blacklist on youtube, that filters accounts in your search results. hypocritical? yes. but it would make the youtube experience a bit better. P.S. And wtf with the "reaction" Accounts. first time watching/listening my pale a**. Most of it seems to be a mixture of fetish, overacting and dishonesty. Look I´m shocked, I´m crying, I´m happy, I´m crying againg. No I didn´t new the cues... Look, real tears.

I really don´t care about any orange man. But thanks a lot. I´m not talking about film features with worldwide distribution, but the big releases instead, where you have discussion about the camera, similar to Fraser talking about the LF, or Deakins talking about the Alexa. I don´t doubt the Cameras being used on a lot of movies and productions (I really like what BMD is doing ever since the OG BMCC), but they´re no talking point in a way, that elevates them to being a new, central player in that field. I see directors and DPs talking about Cameras and Lenses, but I´m still waiting for them to geek out for the Blackmagic Cameras. All I´m saying is, that with the 17k cine, there´s quite the potential to take that step and I´d like to see that. And yeah, that Red overall and that 3k for 3k really wasn´t what it was supposed to become. So BMD really took that place with ease.
-
We´ll see if it will be used on any huge feature film project. If they want to take a big step into that field, they need to find some projects willing to go for a Blackmagic instead of an Arri or a Red Camera. If they can extend their partnership with apple, maybe one of their shows/movies is the right way. Otherwise, Blackmagic Cameras remain a great crash-cam, instead of the A-Camera.
-
Even the Menu structure of the OG BMCC was great. But yeah, I agree. Cameras that are marketed as cine cameras or cine cameras for the ambitioned con-/pro-sumer should offer some sort of video-menu-mode with a reduced structure and only relevant settings. As much as I like the VLOG-Files from my S1, the Menu is bloated when it´s being used primarily as a video-camera.

Especially since I´ve saw a couple of demos not only by him but by other YT-Creators, and the results were questionable at best. Sure, the premise sounds great, but the results were soft, bloomy and weakened the quality of the footage so much, that most of it would be unusable for the stuff I make. I do like my vintage lenses and they have character, but some of these adapters weaken the imagequality to an extend, that even vintage lenses don´t do. this as well as the price is a strange item to push towards the audience, He is usually on the more rational side, when it comes to endorsements with certain companies and their items/devices.

Are you familiar with Steve Yedlin´s Demos about Resolution: https://yedlin.net/ResDemo/index.html

Over the years I bought a variety of Sandisk and Kingston SD Cards that I´m quite satisfied with. Only some MicroSDs appear to be a bit slow, but I rarely use them.

Some sad personal news, and a note on the future
Mr. Freeze replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Stay strong, accept help if you need it. Take your time an be there for your family. No need to justify yourself in this difficult situation. That being said: FUCK CANCER. I lost my grandfather to it, but he had a fullfilled life and passed away in his early 80s. But with a such young person... I´m sorry Zara has to go through this. Stay strong, all of you! -
So it doesn´t even fit onto the mount of the camera? The On/Off switch might be for the aperture of your lenses to work manually.

Maybe a ump12k LF, I don´t really expect a Pocket 4K Pro anymore.

I watched the movie last thursday. I do enjoy marvel-movies as well as dc-movies, so there´s a neutral foundation when it comes to this. That being said, I was entertained but not completly satisfied storywise and when it comes to the length of the movie. VIsually, it is a beautfully made film. Greig Fraser and his team did such a great job and the grading fit the scenes really well. I was hopeful to see a nearly 3h long batman-detective-story but there was at least 30 minutes that could´ve been cut. Some frames here, some shots there and overall pacing improvements. There were a couple of times the movie unfortunately lost some of the power it already created,. Still, the movie had some great performances, some new takes on gotham and the alfred-bruce-dynamic and a solid direction, where this batman could lead towards in the future. I´m optimistic the upcoming sequel can build upon this base. I really hope they bring back Fraser as DoP. Entertainment: 8/10 Story: 6.5/10 Acting: 8/10 Visuals: 9/10 Music: 7.5/10

Well, I´d say there are a couple of things to consider: What kind of work are you planning to film with the URSA? Do you need a final resolution of 4k+x? Do you have enough storage in case you get the 12K? Do you have the editing-capabilities for 8K/12K Footage? Where are the areas you would profit from the high resolution of the 12K the most? I´d say right now, the URSA G2 is the Nr.3 Camera in BMD´s linup, maybe sharing the 3rd Place with the Pocket 4K because of the dual native ISO. Second place goes to the Pocket 6K/Pro and first Place to the 12K Ursa. What kind of firmware updates you you expect for the G2? I think there won´t be anything revolutionary, same for the Pocket 4k, except maybe another sets of BRAW Compression Options. I expect the URSA G2 to get a new version in the future, maybe an 8K FullFrame Model? Maybe BMD focuses more on the midrange cameras, keeping the 12K as their flagship.

Merry Christmas Andrew, frohe Weihnachten! To new evolutions and revolutions in camera gear and filmmaking, some great and some less great discussions about it, the usual forum stuff but, nevertheless, an inspiring and creative plattform.

I basically bought all of my camera and lenses used, with the exception of my first dslr (a Canon 550D) and the Pocket 4K I placed a Preorder for, right after it was announced. I don´t need all my gear to look brand new or to be the latest and greatest. For example, I just got a Sony a7rii as an alternative to my 5Diii. I bought the 5Diii for 580€ and the a7rii for 700€ via ebay/a photography forum. But refurbished could be a great option as well. Depends on what you´re looking for and how big your budget is.

Hybrid Shooters - 1 body for both photo/video or 2 bodies?
Mr. Freeze replied to SRV1981's topic in Cameras
Depends on your needs and your Budget. If you want a simple but powerful all-in-one solution, the a7iii or a7iv could be the right route. If you already have lenses of some manufacturer or mount, another brand could be the better choice. If you want to film and take pictures at the same time, you´d need two bodies anyway. For Photography, the models you picked are very capable, so you have to ask your self if you want full frame, or if an apsc-sensor fits your needs as well. For Video, it´d ask you whether you need internal stabilisation and/or autofocus or not. I like the Blackmagic Cameras a lot, but they depend on you to do the focusing. They do offer great value for the money, great codecs and image quality, but you need to do your part as well. So if you´d like face- or eye-autofocus, another brand is probably the better choice. -
"I prefer high-resolution (4K+) cameras paired with a softer downsampled final look (eg, diffusion, low sharpening in post, vintage glass, etc)" I like 4k resolution but at the same time I´m still amazed by the 2.5k from my BMCC. In general, I like a "softer" but detailed image. Oversharpened clips, with sometimes overly accentuated edges can be very distracting, especially when watching regular movies or series.

I guess it is a sensor somewhere around Super35, or speedboosted to around that FOV. Colorwise I don´t expect it to be a Blackmagic, Arri or a Red, as the Highlights in the sky are harsh in a couple of shots. It seems to be a smaller camera, some of the movements appear that way to me at least. So maybe a GH5/G9 with a speedbooster? Could be an FS5 aswell...

Need help to decide between BMPCC6K PRO or SIGMA FP
Mr. Freeze replied to filmspa's topic in Cameras
Yeah, as long as you don´t already invested in great NDs and an external Monitor, the 6K Pro is probably the best choice. -
Need help to decide between BMPCC6K PRO or SIGMA FP
Mr. Freeze replied to filmspa's topic in Cameras
Take the 6K/6K Pro. The Sigma FP can deliver great footage aswell and has a photo mode, but the Pocket 6K will give you more, if video is your main focus. You can argue that the CDNG from the Sigma will be better for green screen work, but for most of your VFX work the 6K will deliver the shots you need and braw is a great codec. -
How to edit MiniDV footage so that it looks good
Mr. Freeze replied to John Matthews's topic in Cameras
Or superscale in Resolve. -

The guy in the video does a voice-over, which is more practical and gives you some freedom in post. When you do it live you not only have the sounds of the movements to take care of, cut or gate them, but he might be out of breath sometimes and not able to talk in a calm and controlled way. Nevertheless, maybe just use a Rode NGT-1/2 on a boom-pole. I´d do a voice-over afterwards and only record the introduction and explanations during the exercises directly.

Blackmagic Micro Cinema Super Guide and Why It Still Matters
Mr. Freeze replied to crevice's topic in Cameras
Remember that the BMMCC never came with Resolve Studio. 440€ is a great deal, but take a look at the used market as well. You´ll probably need the cage and a focal reducer anyway. If you already have a lot of accessoires, 440 for a basically new one is a good price. -
I enjoyed the movie and to see this kind of lenses in a movie like this one was kinda refreshing. Sure, the plot wasn´t exactly deep and there was no hidden meaning behind all of it. Still, I like Snyder´s visual sense a lot, even though I´d like to see him more in the directors chair and responsible for the visuals, compared to him writing the screenplays of his movies. Nevertheless, I was entertained and liked the look of the movie. You could see this style in the epilogue of his justice league, that he shot himself.
