No, I would love to give it a try someday. I'm waiting for one of these Chinese monitor manufacturers to compete with Atomos in the prores recorder space. I'm a horder when it comes to original footage. Even when I put together finished videos I can't seem to let go of the original clips. So, the higher bit rates would bury me in TBs of files in no time. I will eventually purchase an external monitor either way. I'm a manual focus guy and I find it beyond annoying to nail focus with these puny screens we are supposed to just accept as the standard on mirrorless cameras. I would love to use my phone for this purpose, but that's never as easy as it sounds. Hell, I can't even get the Panasonic app to work with my cameras anymore! As a side note; the tilt screen on the gx85 is my favorite thing. I can't stand looking off to the side to see my g85 screen.

Kye, I'm sure you've figured it out, but just-in-case you haven't, those gf3 batteries will work in the gx85. Quite a revelation for me, as I had three genuine batteries going to waste. I love this camera and have recently thought about buying another one just to mount to another lens. I use primes and these cameras are too inexpensive not to consider that a reasonable move. I often refer to this thread: when in need of some inspiration to shoot with my gx85/ g85. The WB notes from Andy Lee are particularly of use. I played with those suggestions and have been much happier with the colors I get out of these cameras since.

I shot a couple rolls on my honeymoon and had them developed last month. I guess you could say I'm into the whole vintage film thing, as my honeymoon was ten years ago. I took photography in highschool but it didn't take. I did take all the courses because cute girls love photography. I think film is beautiful, but ultimately a pain in the ass. If you are looking for a lab in the US, I had a very good experience with The Darkroom when developing my honeymoon photos. They seem to have a stellar reputation and didn't disappoint me.

There is, technically, a Lumix smartphone. It's called Panasonic Lumix DMC-CM1. Though, I wouldn't exactly call the video high quality.

It sounds like the M1 won't be a great option then, as I've not seen any good reviews regarding Adobe products and the M1. I wouldn't consider it much of a pro workstation anyway. Perfect for me though with my amateur needs. If you're trying to avoid proxies than obviously you'll need some horsepower. I'm sure you have researched all of this and I'm being Capt. There's a bit of controversy surrounding this topic in regards to the new Anthony Bourdain documentary. Similar to how AutoTune has tarnished the perceived artistry of a well executed vocal performance, this will degrade the sense of comfort and companionship a great voiceover performance provides.

I'm not sure I buy that. It's more about ROI than market size anyway. Especially, at this point anyone should be able to see that the market is poised for an upswing. Everything cycles. The market is still there in my opinion, it just needs to be motivated. And an incredible product from Samsung would do that. The Android phone market was nothing for many years. It wouldn't exist as it does today without Samsung. They grew that segment, hell, they ARE that segment. I have no doubt there is a big enough percentage of young demographic that would love to upgrade from their phone camera if you gave them an attractive option. These kids live in a worldwide image-centric culture the likes of which we have never seen. You won't convince me that they view their phones as the be-all and end-all. I think the camera industry has hit rock bottom due to it's own fuckery. And we could consider it a growth industry at this point with the right products. Elon Musk is going to journey to the center of the earth and fly to fucking mars before the camera manufacturers get their collective heads out of their asses.

One would think Samsung would be able to jump right back into the enthusiast camera market using the same technologies they already use for their phones. Big beautiful screens, blazing fast processors, computational photography, etc. Why not try to capture that extra slice of the market? Adding the benefit of lowering BOM cost and improving the margin on a product you sell millions of every year.

You can watch "The Possession Of Hannah Grace" to get a good idea of what the Sony cameras are capable of in a film setting. The movie was shot with a handful of A7s II cameras kitted out with some pretty sweet lenses.

My videos are intended for family only, so, I don't publish anything online. I maintain a server at my home, running Plex, where I host my videos. Family members can stream from wherever they desire on any device they desire. I edit in Resolve with UHD H.264 clips optimized to DNxHR LB. I then render a UHD H.264 master that streams fine over my home network and a low bitrate 1080p H.264 version for those streaming remotely.

Something feels odd about this video. Something with the shutter speed or stabilization, maybe? It's such a tease for Panasonic, with the 6k mode, to all but tell you that the camera will record 6k perfectly fine.

I think you meant vice versa in your last sentence, but I agree with this one hundred percent. In the second situation, which I find myself in more often than not, the biggest two problems I run into are; either too much light or not enough light. I imagine these have been two major issues for filmmakers since the beginning. Obviously, no company seems to want to handle the first problem from the factory in a mirrorless hybrid form factor. So the onus is on us. And while it's frankly a pain-in-the-ass most times, it's a simple enough fix. The second problem is only now starting to better and better with dual native ISO, large sensors, better noise reduction, or all three together. They truly are! I view cameras like automobiles. They are tools, toys, collectors items, and pieces of art. A Ferrari isn't designed for my particular needs, but I'd sure love to see one parked in my garage!

Haha! I can't tell if my post was the result of too many beers or just the right amount of beers. I can only imagine how difficult it is to engineer these cameras in a way to make them desirable enough to a wide enough range of buyers. Apropos of the BMPCC discussion; I've been watching the prices on eBay/ Craigslist since the 4k came out. I was waiting for them to dip into the $250 range so I could justify to myself the purchase. They came close for a short time early on, but seemed to climb steadily back into the $400-500 range and stay there until recently. Now these cameras are going for much more on eBay and those prices seem to be keeping Craigslist prices up as well. I just can't justify spending that much money on a camera that has plenty of issues as is, has been referred to by more than a few people I've spoken to as a "disposable camera", and most people originally purchased for $500 six years ago.

In my dreams I see a Fuji GFX camera with: Medium format Fairchild sensor 2K DCI/ UHD at 23.976 fps, 24 fps, 25 fps Internal Blackmagic RAW SD Card slot A form factor that would look like a cousin to the Sigma FP with a large tilting screen. And $2000 or under. Who wants to shit all over my dream here?
