  1. "The S1RII feels like it was created for people taking mostly photography of still subjects." I guess I don't understand how anyone thought it would be otherwise. I mean, that's what the R stands for. I continue to be amazed at how the online crowd managed to psyche themselves into thinking camera was going to be something it was never intended to be. It's a photo-centric camera with a massive video bonus. It's not an S1HII. It's not a Sony A1II. Especially considering only 6 weeks ago we all thought it was going to be just a cheaper Leica SL3 (cue the moaners saying 'I wish it was' as if there wouldn't be a horde of complaints). I just got mine and it's exactly what I wanted. Now I can get off the terminally negative online train and get snapping.
  2. Either you want a high resolution hybrid camera or not, 'cause the April camera looks to be a very, very different camera.
  3. Yes, that's a great review of the camera. All the real world use reviews just make me more excited to receive mine. Hope it ships soon.
  4. Watching that last video I came to the opposite conclusion - maybe because I watched most of it with the sound off so I didn't have to hear Gerald's commentary. My observations were: 1. The base rolling shutter is fine and the criticisms amount to hysteria. The 15ms shots looked better, sure, but only because you're comparing back to back. No viewer in the real world would care. 2. *Panasonic has provided multiple modes that allow you to mitigate RS*. Amazing that isn't the the takeaway. You can get decent read speed in a pinch, you just have to make some (minor) compromises. 3. Don't do panning shots with telephoto lenses. If Robert Altman super-zoom pans are your jam, then the S1RII sucks. I like how the first thing the camera guy Gerald wrangled along said was 'I mainly do dolly shots so rolling shutter doesn't matter to me' and then had to come up with some debilitating circumstance for bad RS. If you listen to Gerald's commentary then you get a negative take-away. If you just use your eyes you see a really capable and flexible camera.
  5. How were they to know the internet would decide to obsess and fixate on RS for this camera. Only a month ago we thought we were getting SL3 sloppy seconds. Up til now Panasonic's most consistent weak spot has been AF and now hilariously AF isn't even in the discussion. Rolling shutter is a non-issue in that many other cameras have the same limitation. There's nothing remarkable about the S1RII's RS worth multiple Gerald videos. What I see most consistently in commentary about the S1RII is that it's not an S1HII. The S1RII is taking flack for not being the camera the online crowd wants the most from Panasonic.
  6. Standing outside with a camera swinging your body side to side and sharing the results must be the next wave of 'cinematic' storytelling. Or a cry for help.
  7. I've lurked here for years but this S1RII stuff has gotten real silly. It's like there's resentment it's not an S1HII even though we all know it's the R series. And the criticisms of the S1RII are especially strange considering the Z8 (which I've owned) was subject to criticism when released (overheating, dynamic range, AF = nice try, but no Sony/Canon, no Bird Detect, not 1 but 2 recalls, did I mention overheating?). Now the Z8 is the model camera the S1RII just can't match. Almost as if firmware updates make a difference. Is Panasonic good at firmware updates? Gee, I dunno. The new Slashcam review certainly seems bullish on the S1RII.
  8. Just watched this. Interestingly enough on my 1080P PC Monitor the C200 was the clear winner, with the GH5S and Fuji looking more or less the same - or at least not significant enough for me to prefer one over the other. One of the better showings of the GH5(s) for me. However, when I switched over to watching on my 4k TV the results were different. Yes, the C200 looked very good but amazingly I thought the Fuji overall had the more natural look and I thought it the best of the bunch. The video does re-inforce that there is something about the GH5 (and BM4/6K too) that I just don't care for. A kind of video-y plastic-y softness I can't unsee no matter how many clips/videos I watch.
  9. I'm potentially looking into getting a (used) Canon and installing ML. One question I have is I've read the EOS M can have difficulty doing continuous shooting at higher rates and that this is related to the buffer (and card speed). Would getting a 7D or 70D minimize this?
