You and I both know he's not saying ignore all overheating tests. Put the tin foil hat away. I mean there's no way he'd buy that camera with his own hard earned cash if he genuinely didn't recommend it. Oh wait - he's just ordered three!
-
The test got the exact opposite reaction to the stated preference - by a large margin - go watch the video. It was over 1500 people. I'd say that's indicative. People are fan boys about camera brands - we know this!
-
Some reviews (such as the guy in Florida) aren't stipulating this. Devil is as ever, in the detail, instead of simply saying 'It overheated!'.
-
Oh colour science Oh colour science is definitely a thing it's just people are very very subjective about it and there's a ton of brand loyalty that isn't born out by the actual pictures people prefer. Tony asked people who they *thought* had best colour science (winners Canon and Nikon) then he got the same people to choose their favourite colour science on a blind picture test. Canon and Nikon came bottom (with negative scores) Sony came top and obvs Sony is perceived to have relatively worse colour science. People are brand fan boys - who knew!
-
I know, it's nuts. Making judgments of a cameras ability based on YouTube videos = basic fail. There's more guff spouted about colour science then pretty much anything else. Northrup has statistically proven most people talk shite about colour science.

Pretending to know the motives of somebody where you obviously can't is usually not a good idea.

That's a pretty wild take on one of the more respected and impartial camera reviewers. He explains prior to the Sony he was a big big fan of the Canon C series AND his exact reasons why he's not buying a C series and why he's buying the Sony. I guess you missed that part.
-
Yeah pretty stupid comment. “The way I work is the way every pro works.” Clearly not the case. “Every pro works in direct sun light!”. Erm, no they don’t. The idea people are giving the Sony a free pass is also nonsense. I suspect people that think that are rather disappointed the new Canons didn’t meet the hype. Not so secret “brand ambassadors”. I would rate this forum as one of the more objective camera forums. Minimal brand loyalty. Pop over to dpreview if you disagree.

Kai W's review suggested similar. But in real life situations how often are most people using locked off in hard direct sunlight for this cam? Not many I'd suggest. Gerald has tested 'in the hand' and found very few issues. This is the much more likely situation for this footprint.
-
Because he's not just shooting for YouTube but his own/client projects and wants to standardise on one platform for workflow reasons. Not that difficult.
-
Of those two reviews, I'll put more stock in Gerald's. I suspect I'm not alone.
-
I've not watched this yet. But I'd give it your full attention if you're interested. He's ordered one for himself.
-
He did one test at one frame rate. He didn't share the details.
-
Well, if he's got repeated test evidence to prove it - him. As ever its 'show your working'. These guys (like the Florida guy) making broad, general statements should be ignored. Looks like The Catmeister General will have a detailed review up shortly.
-
These early reviews should not be relied upon - have we learnt nothing?

20 mins is more than enough for these short clips at that FR, assuming it doesn't cripple the camera for hours afterwards R5 style. That's the issue for me, overall thermal management.
-
4k 120 internal, rumours got that wrong. Every option seems to be available at every level.

Refinement rather than revolution. Looks like a very solid camera *on paper*. However, 12M and call it a hybrid in 2020?

Disappointed in the Canon R6 - Coming From A Canon User
Nezza replied to herein2020's topic in Cameras
Absolutely, at the moment he's the only guy I've seen who's really put in the work. I see Jordan Drake is back peddling faster than an R5 overheats. It's quite shocking, people make multi thousand dollar decisions from watching these reviews. -
Disappointed in the Canon R6 - Coming From A Canon User

After watching above Northrup video, the plot thickened a bit for me on the R6. Tony says 4K 30 you can get 39 mins and 4K 60 29 mins and (he says) 4K 60 looks great on the R6. For what I'd use (run and gun) that starts to look usable. However, we still have the issue that even using these in stills mode limits video. To what extent isn't 100% clear yet. Need to wait for detailed reviews by the likes of Gerald Undone. There's generally been less testing on the R6 so the info is more limited relatively speaking. We'll see. -
Canon EOS R5 / R6 overheating discussion all in one place
Nezza replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
The comments on dpreview Canon forum on the R5/6 are predictable enough. Including: + Reviewers just don't like Canon generally (Gerald Undone who tweeted about no video after 1 hour stills usage, praised Canon C line as 'outstanding') + Covid means there's not much content around so overheating is overblown (there's never been more content around as everybody is stuck at home with nothing else to do!) + Discussing their own cooling solutions (leaf blower on set? could work) Talk about a denial being a river in Egypt. -
I'm ignoring any feature quoted until it's properly tested by an impartial reviewer. Specs lists mean nothing, brand ambassadors 'first hand reviews' can be safely ignored. It's part of a much wider issue obviously but DPReview should hang their heads in shame over the R6 video review.

Canon EOS R5 / R6 overheating discussion all in one place

Going forwards all of Peter Mckinnon's videos will be outdoors in a strong breeze. He's going to spend the next three years freezing his tits off.
