  1. Canon's tag line for the R5 is 'Professional mirrorless redefined'. There's no way a pro could use it for video, imagine using it for wedding work: "I now pronounce you man and w..." "Sorry, can you stop and come back in two hours, I need to find a fridge."
  2. Overheating this serious isn’t a firmware fix. It’s a fundamental design issue.
  3. I think that was the final straw for a lot of people considering the R5. His review should be coming later today. If you haven’t already check out his YouTube channel. Very detailed, non BS reviews.
  4. Desperate nonsense from fan boys grasping at straws keen to justify their 4K purchase of a total lemon.
  5. They definitely did. Probably came closest so far in terms of hybrids. Decent stills for sure. Canon blew it this gen, Sony's move now. Nikon now an outside chance this round given Canon has now failed.
  6. Sony, Canon and Panny have their pro video cameras to 'protect'. Nikon doesn't so would hypothetically have no reason not to.
  7. 'worst hybrid' looks to be about right. The problem is Canon pitch it as a hybrid from the absolute get go. This is the opening headline from Canon's site on the R5: "Re-think what you know about mirrorless cameras. The EOS R5 uncompromising performance will revolutionise your photography and filmmaking." Next line: "Whatever you shoot, however you shoot it, the EOS R5 will let you be creative in ways you simply couldn’t before. Capture sensational 45 megapixel photos at up to 20 frames per second*, or cinematic 12 bit 8K RAW video using the entire width of the camera’s sensor." Canon are *leading* with the video capabilities for what appears to suffer from some of the worst overheating ever.
  8. He said it 'for most people the overheating is actually insignificant and you'll never have to deal with it' I think he's going to look back and regret that comment.
  9. That was my point, Canon incorrectly set expectations through the release marketing then fail to deliver in the product = pissed off customers. I think the key issue is Canon just needs to deliver what it promises, because mass returns, brand damage and lawsuits are very real possibilities. I'm implying no such thing! They just need deliver on their claims.
  10. The alternative is that Canon actually delivers what it promises. Imagine that! If people just keep making excuses and fail to hold Canon to account when they don't deliver you'll get exactly the cameras from Canon you deserve.
  11. If this was all a calculated move on Canon's part I'd suggest it may well turn out it wasn't that well calculated if it leads to cancelled orders, mass returns, brand damage and potentially class action lawsuits.
  12. Having to add a fan like that to get more recording time (and I'm not convinced you'd get that much more) is a completely ridiculous state of affairs on a new 4 grand+ camera. Canon should obviously fix this at the design level.
  13. The bollock that Canon have dropped is the marketing messages suggested the opposite of what appears to be the case, that these cameras were reliable. Expectations that *they* set appear not to have been met. This is why people get pissed off. By the end of this week we should have detailed tests by multiple people and know the score. If it is as bad as early tests indicate, Canon's brand will take a severe kicking. Sony will be rubbing their hands.
  14. And by 'in depth' he meant 'used for a morning'.
  15. Of the reviews I've seen, common comments: + Praise for AF, now class leading + Stabilisation excellent + You can shoot upper 20 mins 4K, then overheats but the issue is the amount time you have to let it cool down is considerable (one guy stuck it in a fridge - maybe Canon's solution is too bundle it with a small portable one)
  16. Interesting if true. Why you should never judge a pre-production model as issues like this can arise!
  17. Yes this guy knows his stuff and is one to follow as he continues his tests (he's running an R6 through tests next week) as opposed to the guy that just says 'It's awful, I'm a film maker so you better believe me damn it! '.
  18. Quite. Declaring the new Canons as ‘DOA’ on the basis of one ‘review’ of a pre production model that lacked any sort of detail is a bit silly really. There absolutely could well be issues with these cameras but declaring them useless without the proper testing of *production* models is premature to say the least. People bashing without hard evidence and for the sake of it.
  19. I had a Hero 7B, one of the buggiest cameras I've used. Yet they charge you a high price for the privilege. None of the go pro's have a front screen. Given how often you use them in selfie mode, its invaluable for framing shots. That alone swung it for me.
  20. Where did you get that info from? The canon doc doesn't explicitly say that.
  21. That's not correct, Canon says overheating affects 4K 30 and 60. No mention of 24p or 1080 and 24p is what the guy in the review says he shot with.
  22. If he shot 4k 24 (which Canon claim no recording limit) and he encountered such issues this actually makes me think it's a potential issue with that specific camera or because its a pre production model. Otherwise Canon have lied, which I find hard to believe given people will test it within days. Either way more detailed testing of production units is required before making judgement.
  23. Woah - the review above compared to the dpreview review it's like they talking about a different camera! Pretty damning. Unfortunately the guy above didn't go into any detail of how long / which frame rate which is crucial. The camera could be performing exactly as Canon have said! Need more detailed reviews.
