No 4K 120 Internal, 12M stills, for 4000 euros when you can get a R6 for 2500. I'll pass thanks Sony.
-
Whilst clearly the S range is the video focused model, all the A7's are marketed as hybrids so should also be judged on stills capability. It is not video only. In 2020, 12M is a compromise too far for most in a high(er) end camera like this with new tech. Existing competition that's been around a while beats it for stills resolution. To pretend otherwise gives Sony a free pass.

It's not on. Really buggy. Bad image quality, random shut downs etc etc and they charge a premium price for the 'brand'. Once bitten. On the other hand the OSMO Action I'd recommend, well made, well priced, gimble like stabilisation, app very good as it's come from DJI's many years of drone development.
-
Exactly. A high end camera released in 2020 with 12M, not cutting it for many. I don't know why you'd accept it at that price point. These are marketed as hybrids - not solely video.
-
I'm not sure what your point is. Media will accept any quality of footage these days, skype quality or worse. It's about getting the shot, not the quality. Slightly different scenario to something a pro may wish to crop and blow up, e.g. wildlife where you don't have time to perfectly compose the shot that needs a tight crop. If you want to accept lesser quality and options in post that's your choice but in 2020 a camera costing 2+ grand offering iPhone resolution doesn't cut it for most serious photographers.

I've owned both go pro and osmo action. I'd recommend the osmo action, better design (front screen) app and software stabilisation. With go pro you're a paying beta tester - over priced.

I said 12M isn't enough for serious photographers that want to crop and make large prints, I didn't say 'only megapixels matter', you said that. You ignored all the other benefits of an interchangeable lens system with all the manual control that enables and said just use a smart phone with high megapixels. Your words, not mine. The vast vast majority of pictures taken will be 12M or less - not sure what your point is though. People that are seriously into photography / video that visit this site and want pro gear are in a minority compared to basically everybody that has a mobile phone and takes pictures and doesn't even know what the megapixel count is. Obvious stuff. If you're happy to tight crop and then make a poster print out of a 12M image then go for it. Personally I wouldn't put that on my wall. 20M is the standard for magazine covers these days. Given the current level of tech 12M on a hybrid that costs thousands of dollars isn't competitive, that's the bottom line. As you say, you'll have a hard time convincing anybody vaguely serious about photography that 12M or less is acceptable but if you're happy to accept that low bar go for it.

The pro support is a big factor in these decisions, cameras going down in the field = lost $$$ for company like AP where timeliness is everything. They obviously are convinced Sony can deliver pro support. In particular if I were Canon I'd be worried because their pro support has differentiated them for years. Nikon pro support - not soo much.

I don't see the Z5 as a bargain - far from it. 1.7 crop basically means 4K is essentially unusable. Better options exist, an A73 with all the advantages it has with cheaper lenses (both Sony and 3rd party) could work out similar price to a Z5 and expensive Nikkor glass. Or an RP at $400 less is pretty similar specs wise. At $1400 the Z5 looks expensive and uncompetitive.
-
That would assume the only thing that counts in a camera is megapixels which is clearly not the case. There's a reason Apple has stuck with a 12M for so long. It's perfect for the job in hand, posting on social media, looking at on small screens, standard size prints. For a full frame, interchangeable lens system 12M will limit you if you want to crop or blow up large prints, which I'd assume somebody that wants to drop thousands on a body/lenses is likely to want. If Sony does go 12M in the A7S3 it's a no from me and I suspect others. Most people are buying these because they are hybrids, not solely video.
-
It's not, not in this day and age. "Shoots stills at the same resolution as your iPhone!" Probably not the best marketing slogan ever.
-
If that latest batch of specs leaks is correct the A7S3 is closer to a R6 than an R5 for video. I'm in the market for both of these cameras and I'd lean towards the R6 at this point. Early doors obvs, nothing official on the A7S3 and only early reviews on the Canon's. Good for consumers though.

The Mckinnon's of this world aren't making content for the audience of this site. He's making infotainment and it appears (on the surface) he's getting paid for his passion. Good on him. Many don't. Same with Polin, I find him laughable but others don't. If you like him you're right, if you don't like him you're right. I think whatever level of interest you have in something there's content out there and you'll gravitate towards it. McDonalds is the most popular fast food and it's shite. Doesn't mean michelin star places can't exist and everything inbetween.

Unless you have lots of Nikkor glass I think this will all be too late for this years camera wars. Assuming the R5/6 stack up in real life and the Sony A7S3 delivers, Nikon looks a distant third this time round.

T&C made a video where they explained how they monetise what they do and without the sponsorships they said the YouTube ad money wouldn't make them profitable. It depends on the niche you're in but a million views is worth between $600-$7K on youtube, varies a lot. Depends on how much the advertisers value each prospect / customer. But yeah, T&C must die a little every time they have to say the Square Space spiel. Thanks Square Space!

Canon EOS R5 has serious overheating issues – in both 4K and 8K
Nezza replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
First decent review of a production R6. Looks like it's doing a lot of things right. The only question is overheating in hotter environments which they couldn't test. With CLOG3 coming it only gets more compelling. This is the Camera for Sony to beat, Nikon's updates later this year might be too late, people will have either gone for the R5/6 or the new Sony by then. -
Philip Bloom made similar observations that different lenses made a considerable difference to the AF.

T&C are fine, they know their audience (which isn't the audience of this site) and have some decent info for new people. They're up front about any associations they have (unlike others we won't mention). Tony's shirts appear to fit him. They are the easy listening photography channel.
-
The event is expected to last more than 20 mins. Just a heads up for any R5 shooters at the event.
-
He is a joke, but he worked out that to keep the algorithms happy you need to be pumping out 'content' all day every day. This leads to a constant stream of click bait-y shite, repurposing others content and low quality 'comment' all wrapped up in a series of ill fitting t shirts. I think many people see him for what he is. I find him funny, but not in the way he intends.
-
The tight t-shirted one has released another of his 'reading things out he's found off the internet' videos where he acknowledges Canon published info on the overheating. Info that already existed before he made his previous 'stop speculating' video. Jared is ALL over this. I think he should change his now legendary sign off to 'Fro reads stuff off the internet dot com'.
-
Which was 'not as good as Canon or Sony'. Far from glowing, depends on the lens, 'I'd use other cameras'.

Northrup was damning on the AF.
