Yeah it seems pointless to use BM colorspace and ruin the great color the sigma has.

I see a lot of used BMPCC with broken micro HDMI. It's actually why I haven't repurchased one of them. The screen on the OG Pocket is also total crap. I have heard the sigma FP screen is pretty nice, aside from its lack of tilt. If I get one I will buy the tilt modification kit.

Yeah i guess mini might be ok. It seems like every camera company is in on a big scheme to gimp every camera LOL.

A full frame "box" camera would sell great. Blackmagic doesn't seem to want to conform to what everyone else is doing though.
-
sounds impressive, I want to see it in a 4-6k sensor rather than 8K.

micro HDMI is a no go for me anyways. I am willing to just shoot HD 8bit RAW if I need smaller files.

The nice thing about the GH5 HD was that it was downsampled, aside from the sharpening it looked really really good. The S1 series used line skipping or pixel binning and the HD looks like completely garbage. I think the GH6 is not downsampling to HD either. I guess they figure people don't care or the sensor just can't do it for some reason.

Yeah that is my plan. I heard that about shooting BRAW, is it the same case with Prores Raw?

Interesting, I plan to shoot using CDNG. This is one of the reasons I am going to buy the FP, seems to have excellent color rendition.

I think there is a lot of misuse of the camera. Dynamic range seems impressive when exposed to protect highlights. It would be nice of course if they had included a nice log curve. I am going to buy one within the next month.

Kinefinity has an E-ND in their latest camera. I am hoping to see that from other companies soon.

Yes I agree. Though when talking cinematography that video speaks to what I was saying. The beach shots in that video are so beautiful they make a cinematographers job easy.

Honestly the biggest downfall is content. The millions in front of the lens are what makes hollywood so entertaining, not so much whats behind it. Same with docs, not everyone has interesting content like say the whole tiger king situation to shoot. Look at some of the biggest Youtubers, they are using really basic cameras and getting millions of views. It's why some actors are paid so much money.

I wish the story was as compelling as the visuals.

The usefulness of resolution depends how close you will sit to any given screen. A BMPCC with a better body definitely would have been nice to have.

The S1H and S1 seem to have more noise reduction going on in the 6K 420 H265 modes, looks less organic. I don't understand. On the S1 you can't oversample when shooting in S35 as there is only 4k to work with. You need additional resolution to oversample. Same situation with the C70, if its using a 2k crop in S16 mode there is nothing to oversample from. It could oversample 4k to 2k if it was 2k S35. It should have the same issue unless there is something that is really flying over my head.

There is no lineskipping or bixel binning on the S1. It is a full frame 6k sensor. The S35 mode simply uses the 4k portion of the sensor which works out to S35. There isn't more noise, the noise is just bigger. If you have an image with noise present and you crop in post, the noise will be more apparent as it will be larger. There isn't more noise, it's just larger. It's like looking at an image from far away or on a small screen it might be unnoticeable. But if you blow the image up you start to see everything better. Hopefully that makes sense. Same with the Alexa LF vs S35. The LF appears to have less noise but in reality its just smaller, both cameras generate the same amount of noise at any given exposure. It's why Roger Deacons was comfortable shooting the LF at 1600 iso where as he wasn't on previous cameras.

Yeah the A7S3 is nice but nothing crazy. Its definitely not 13 stops if the Alexa has 14. I really think it depends on the scene. I can get a really nice shot on my iphone if the dynamic range of the scene is small. There are definitely times where my Alexa and any other given camera are hard to tell apart, but when you get super strong highlights it's game over. Even something like the BMPCC with lower dynamic range just looks better in high dynamic range scenes as the texture is so much better. Pulling shadows out of compressed H264 never looks great. RAW just looks better usually. My S1 has better dynamic range than the old RED Scarlet. But the Scarlet's shadows just look better. Over all the current full frame cameras are pretty crazy good for most people's needs.

It definitely will IMO. Full frame vs S35 on say the Panasonic S1 is dramatically different if you are struggling for light. You are essentially blowing up the noise. If you expose correctly its no issue of course.
-
Yeah when it comes to making money whatever is quickest easiest option is probably best. 99.9% of people won't pay more for Log footage or even know what it is to begin with. A majority of situations won't even require the extra dynamic range you get with log. Auto focus is cool but if you are used to Panasonic shooting it can be confusing and you'll probably actually miss shots at first.
-
Yeah I never had an issue with Fuji files but I did find when cropping in at insane amounts the Panasonic seemed to hold more detail. I really never crop in on photos much so its not really a problem.
-
The GH5 did not have an OLPF and had zero Moire. I think you might be surprised by the S1. The tilting screen on it is awesome and the weight increase is marginal IMO. I think for the GH6 its partly a question if the dual gain sensor applies to stills. One of the downsides of an M43 camera in general is the lack of dynamic range and color depth. That might solve it. I noticed a difference in detail when it comes to Fuji vs Panasonic but I think its the weird X-trans filter thing more than sensor size. I have found there is so much detail in the 24mp S1 Raw files that I can't imagine ever needing more than that for any application. I have cropped in on an eye from a portrait shot and found there to be enough detail for the image to be usable. The most I'd ever crop in for something is like 50% and its got that covered easily.
-
I agree though if you are happy with the S5 image but want a high quality tilting LCD, the S1 is kind of the answer. I do wish it had an OLPF, though I haven't run into moire yet.
-
How about the S1? S1H with tilt screen and slightly smaller body.

I believe I got a Fuji XT3 after getting rid of my GH5. Definitely a step up in terms of color and dynamic range. Having 4k 60p in 10 bit and a nice HD 120p was cool. I still think the XT3 is an amazing price at $900 used right now. Its an awesome stills camera to boot. Only downside is the 30 minute record limit. I think I got an S1 after that and ended up getting rid of the Fuji. I like Fuji color more but the S1 image is a step up in every other way and color with full VLOG is fine. Its hard to argue the image on the S1. It's up there with the RED komodo if you are shooting RAW.
