Yeah I’m sure new tech is coming soon. I am not an Apple guy but the specs were too good to pass for the relatively low price.
-
Just get the Apple M1, H265 for days. If the R6 had the rolling shutter performance of the R5 I’d buy it.
-
Bro I think you know that the R6 will be a great option for you. Think of what you’ve had to work with using canon in the past. You’re getting 4K 10 but super 35 with PDAF. Despite all the limitations I think that’s all you really need, realistically. If you have 2K laying around I’d definitely get the R5 but I don’t think it’s something you need or will really miss not having. My two cents.

Why Do People Still Shoot at 24FPS? It always ruins the footage for me
TomTheDP replied to herein2020's topic in Cameras
I definitely think with 24fps you have to be very precise when panning or you get that jitter effect. -
Just an Andycine 5.7 inch A6

Has anyone tried ZLog on the Z6ii yet? Compatible?
TomTheDP replied to Ryan Plunkett's topic in Cameras
Yeah Nikon allows you to load custom profiles into the camera. It's actually a really cool feature. It's not like lowering contrast or saturation on existing profiles. -
The pocket has held steady. It’s price/capabilities haven’t been matched and may not be for a long time. No one wants to jump into the cheap RAW game.
-
Yeah really depends how you are shooting. It does seem very camera dependent too. Definitely a difference between 8 and 10 bit on the Pana S1, when shooting in Log.
-
There is a test floating about comparing R5 Raw to the Z Cam F6 and Panasonic S1H. The R5 seemed about the same as both cameras in the dynamic range department. They just need CLOG2 or 3 in the 10 bit modes to get the most out of the sensor.
-
Yeah the URSA is not made for that kind of shooting. The Pockets are but they are certainly not the best for it. Rather have my Panasonic S1 for run and gun. Its certainly doable on the Pocket cameras. You just have to do a lot of battery swapping. We're all spoiled now.
-
I think the Pocket's bodies would make more sense with a bigger internal battery and a tilt screen. I like the ursa bodies for the internal ND's and they are bigger enough where you can shoot handheld stably even on longer lenses (50mm). The Pocket 6k sensor in an URSA body would make a lot of sense to me. It'll be interesting to see what they do with the 12k sensor tech on lower end stuff if anything. Maybe an URSA ultra mini 8k 😅
-
Yeah I mean if you are pushing those shadows I think it becomes more apparent, depending on your eye and the amount you push color around. But yeah 12 bit BRAW is incredible to being with. Would be sweet if BM used the Sony A7S3 sensor in a camera. You'd get that great dual gain ISO as well as low rolling shutter. No 6k though. The Zcam e2g is coming soon but at 6k you might as well get the komodo and get the redraw.
-
The big difference is the REDRAW will just look richer with 16bit colordepth vs 12, especially when not exposing perfectly or pushing the files hard. Both are great codecs though. The P6K rolling shutter isn't great that is the big difference for me.
-
I honestly think its the lens. Maybe I am wrong though.
-
If the XH2 can catch up to Sony with auto focus it’d be tempting. I want to see unlimited recording and RAW out on the Fuji. I’m kind of invested in full frame right now though.
-
It’s a great deal used right now. I love the larger 1.4 crop S35 sensor.
-
Yeah that panny update really sealed the deal for me.
-
Have you considered trying Prores RAW on the S1h? Now that I got the new Mac M1 I’m really considering it.
-
@Andrew CalvettiIt’s not officially released yet though certain individuals got it. It will get a wide release. The price is going to be 6k like the Komodo.
-
Z-cam just released a firmware update for all of their cameras. All resolution and frame rate combinations now support ProRes 422 recording (except C8K 2.4:1). Added 5K 60fps recording on E2-F6. ProRes proxy records in separate files. Preview & in camera playback with 3D LUT banding issue fixed. External SSD recording through USB performance improved. Now I can do Prores 422 on my S6 at 4k 100fps. That is pretty awesome IMHO. I wish Panasonic would get in on the Prores game.
-
I don't plan on buying any LOL. Possibly if Z-cam releases something with the A7S3 sensor.
-
It’s more about the limitations of the current Sony sensors. The jump from m43 to full frame is noticeable. Jumping from S35 to full frame less so though it’s still noticeable. Now compare full frame Panasonic to S35 red or Arri and it’s a completely different ballpark. I see it as the best route in the budget Sony sensor market at the moment. But that’s coming from someone who makes money as a DP. If I was doing YouTube or just doing this as a hobby than it’s pointless to chase IQ, unless you just have deep pockets.

Yeah internal RAW recording shouldn't even be a problem, the sigma FP can do it. The less processing the better usually for heat management. Its the same reason computer's have a harder time handling Long GOP. Definitely a weird GIMP. I don't think the Pana S5 was in the Panasonic plan nor was basically giving the S1 an update that gives it almost every feature the S1H has. I think it was a response to how sales were going.
-
Makes sense though the performance on the M1 macs are just too good to pass up. Just got one for $850. I can probably sell my PC for over $1000 easily and it'll actually perform better than my PC at least for my applications. I dislike codecs that only work on certain systems too. I like the idea of RAW though. I prefer RAW on the S1 vs say the P6K as I can get 4K RAW off the S1 in S35 mode. While on the Pocket 6k I have to shoot in 6K or else crop in more. The 1.5X crop on the S1 is actually a wider FOV than the P6K. It seems the Mac M1's can smoothly edit 4k even with several adjustments applied. This will be huge for me.
-
1080p out of the GH5 is probably better than the S1. By better I mean it matches its 4k better. Obviously still behind the S1 in dynamic range and low light. I am very close to switching to MAC with the new M1's and utilizing the 12 bit Prores RAW out of the S1.
