Yeah the Komodo is definitely for a specific crowd. I’d love to have global shutter. Hopefully GS comes to low end cameras, the motion is so beautiful.

I agree. On the other hand the Panasonic S1 is pretty phenomenal. I don’t take stills often but I did recently on the S1 and couldn’t believe how detailed they were. I can’t imagine needing more.
-
Yeah guessing it could just be the same sensor as the S1 although it would be more like Sony to try to one up panasonic.
-
I imagine Sony will release an A74 with a traditional 24mp sensor and 10 bit color. Maybe
-
Yeah Panasonic REC709 luts kinda suck. The Nicest709 is probably there best one.
-
The cool thing about the GHAlex luts is that they are specifically designed for the Panasonic S1. He even has individual exposure adjustments for -2, -1, +1 and +2 as color changes when you under or overexpose. Its really comprehensive. Pretty much made for people who want to use a cheaper camera alongside their Alexa as it matches 100% if you are using pure light sources at least. Works out for me as I want Alexa magic without actually owning one lol.

An atomos Shinobi is super light but of course you have to power it. Smaller NPF batteries don't add much weight though. I can go no monitor with something that has a tilt screen though its still a pain in the ass on Sunny days. I hate using the Pocket without a monitor though. That lack of tilting screen kills me.

My biggest worry with Z-cam is if the company went under. Otherwise they are super responsive to problems and the Facebook group is very quick to respond. Compared to say blackmagic I feel like they are more on top of the wants of their customers. They already have an internal E-ND option out where as blackmagic still has yet to put anything like that out. Unlike other camera companies they are giving us the full capabilities of the Sony sensors everyone is using. Also the Z-cam doesn't take 23 seconds to boot like the komodo lol. But yeah I would say the C70 is easily more compact. You don't actually really need anything to shoot with it. On the other side if you are going to use an external monitor (maybe because you want to see something in bright sunlight), something like the Z-cam or Komodo makes more sense. btw I am an owner of the E2 S6 and original E2.

I highly recommend the GHAlex LUT. Its a bit pricey but it feels like a different camera after using that LUT. Panasonic color is a bit trash but so is pretty much every other company besides Arri and maybe Canon lol. The Panasonic S1 is hard to beat for the price especially a used one.
-
Yeah it’s sucks though tbh after using an external monitor it’s hard to go back to tiny on camera monitors

The camera automatically switches to APSC mode when using S35 glass at least if the glass is modern with electronics. Honestly S35 mode looks great though.

He has a direct to 709 conversion as well as Log-C. Ive personally used lut Calc and GHalex. They definitely produce different results. He also has a specific version for Premiere as well as under and overexposure LUTs. I highly recommend.

Panasonic S1 V-LOG -- New image quality king of the hill
TomTheDP replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Great news for me. My S1 is now way more capable. Plus I get a full hdmi port. -
You honestly can't go wrong with any system. Panasonic's full frame line up which is now supporting 12 bit RAW out is really compelling. Full Frame 422 and 12 bit RAW at a $2k price point. Canon though pricey has a wide range of very reliable and ergonomic choices with some of the best color science and auto focus. RED has entered into the affordable market with the Komodo which gives you global shutter and 16 bit linear RAW. Sony is maybe a bit behind but the A7S3 is pretty compelling with high quality 4k up to 120fps in a small body all in full frame with no crop and 10 bit 422 also 12 bit prores RAW out. Z-cam is offering very ergonomic and affordable bodies ranging anywhere from M43 to Full frame with internal Prores, RAW, and Prores RAW out. Interchangeable mounts and easy to manage power solutions make it a very good option. Blackmagic though less ergonomic in general offers affordable cameras with one of the best internal codecs out there, BRAW. 12 bit compressed RAW that edits better then almost anything else. Can you really go wrong these days?
-
Damn my Panasonic S1 is getting a huge upgrade next year. Prores RAW out....... Feeling good about picking one up for $1300.
-
I rarely use high speed but other than the S1H even the 24p is kind of subpar. 150mbps is weak. Would be nice if they’d give a 300mbps option in longgop or Prores.
-
I was under the impression the Zcam sensor is the same as the one used in the S1H or at least very similar. Still begs the question why did they choose that sensor.
-
I'd agree. Color is defiantly better than Sony however after using Z-cam I find the Panny colors a bit subpar as well. I know the S1/S1H sensor is capable of 4K 60p 422 as well as 4k 120p. Z-cam is doing it. The S1H body is plenty big with fans, so I wouldn't think cooling would be the issue. Of course they are still great cameras I just don't understand the limitations.
-
Because the A7s3 does 5x the frame rate. They are now going to release an S1V probably at the same price point as the S1H. I mean at this point Panasonic is just riding Sony’s coat tails as they get all their sensors from them.
-
accident double post..

The S1H specs are already outdated. They shouldn't have rushed the S1H out IMHO. Its the same sensor as the S1. They should have just gave higher specs to the S1 and waited. The S1H is too heavy for the specs it has. 420 H265 4k 60p cropped and 120 hd. The Fuji has that at 1/4th the price and half the weight. Plus its 420 not 422.
-
I personally love the sensor. Its got higher frame rate capabilities than the A73 type sensor that every full frame is using now. For photographers its kind of a bummer but the S1V will be video oriented anyways.
-
24-35 probably, and I'd rather avoid Nikon as I don't like the opposite focus direction.
-
Full frame preferably tho S35 is fine too. Something that is reasonably sharp wide open, the faster the better.
-
Looks like the S1V will have the A7S3 sensor. I hope Z-cam does a full frame camera with that sensor as well.
