  1. Reading this thread about the opportunity to have native BRAW recording on Z-Cam, confirm that is OS on post production only: https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=171209 Anyway, They could make a deal like the one rumored between Canon and Red: you don't f**k with your Raw and I let you use my mount....
  2. It doesn't seem to me that there are too few lenses to work with. but let's put it this way: the entry of BM into this alliance will act as a driver for the development of new lenses, especially cinema lenses. https://lesdeuxpiedsdehors.com/en/lenses-for-l-mount/ I guess that BRAW is free only for post processing, not for camera internal implementation. BM pages refers only to sw and SDK. I should dig into the fine prints...
  3. Thanks Kye, With a medium rig as my GH5 it's a completely different story. My camera housing has three 1" spheres integrated so I can attach clamps and legs as tripod for macro or details which requires a stable position. Fow wide angle shoot I just remove the legs, mount a diffrrent lens and port and I change floating arms to get a different bouyancy and trim.
  4. He's a talented guy. Thanks for sharing. Tokina 10-17mm is a very mediocre lens for topside photography yet it's a legendary lens for underwater photography. IIRC went EOL months ago. On video it's a different story: some defects are called character.
  5. The trailer for my new YT channel about diving deep in the Mediterranean Sea. All shot with a GH5 and a GH5S with several wide angle and macro lenses plus wet lenses and CRI 95 Keldan lights.
  6. Even the 14-42mm PZ is really compact when not in use and it's very cheap. That small extra tele could be useful too. There's even a cheaper rebranded version on Aliexpress.
  7. I paired my GH5 with a GH5M2 and configured them more or less identically. I only use it in VLog with an external monitor, and I have the Panasonic Lut control on both the display and the external monitor. With the GH5M2 I had to lower the brightness of the hdmi monitor to less than 50% and also change the contrast otherwise by exposing ETTR I get an image on the monitor completely burned out while on the display it is ok. Same scene on the GH5, without changing settings on the hdmi monitor, the image is identical on the display and monitor. Any idea or any feedback from someone using the GH5M2?
  8. Never without it when shooting under tropical sun
  9. A GH5M2 for underwater work and a Gh5 + G80 topside
  10. I guess you are mixing output format with processing format. From https://www.arri.com/en/learn-help/arri-camera-technology/best-overall-image-quality
  11. Sad but true. I was mentioning the old Web 2.0 definition where users to interact and collaborate with each other as creators of user-generated content in a virtual community. This contrasts the first generation of Web 1.0-era websites where people were limited to viewing content in a passive manner. Well, now everyone is chasing the dream of becoming a "Creator," and they are all so intent on generating "content" that, in many cases, the dialogue has gone to zero. Twitter is a prime example. Everyone tweets their bullshit but rarely responds to comments but that's the way it is now on all platforms. That is why I was writing that we are back to Web 1.0. No one is interested in interactivity anymore. Maybe in Web 5.0 everyone will have their own A.I. that will generate bullshit for us.
  12. Even with a sun hood a 400 nits monitor strives..
  13. I am looking for a 5" field monitor to use on a very light rig that I take with me on boats and in tight spaces. I usually work in full sun at sea so it needs to have very good brightness. The classic 4/500 NITS Feelworld monitors absolutely do not show up even with a sunshade. I see now several 1000 and even 3000 NITS models are coming out but they have a fateful built-in fan that starts automatically at high brightness. I would have the microphone on the cage right next to the monitor and I am concerned about the background fan noise. Do any of you have experiences of use?
  14. We are all adults, this has been the norm for at least 8 years now, and it will get worse and worse. We used to talk about Web 2.0. Now it seems to me that we have gone backwards. The ease with which anyone can post his or her fart on the Internet certainly has so many positives (this place is proof of that) but it has created countless self-referential webstars looking for their own little corner in the sun. Making a comparison with cooking, the trend is in having more chefs than dineers. Why should Amazon spend money on employees and IT infrastructure when, with the Ponzi scheme it has created, it is directly the customers who pay for it to get money to them?
  15. Backward. Full backward. Last week I was trying to buy a piece of gear. The dozens of reviews on youtube were all identical and by asking for some details it was clear that no one had actually used the item but only reviewed it quickly with the usual disclaimers "I was not paid but company X kindly sent it to me blah blah..." when I realized they were only selling it in the U.S. I wrote to the manufacturer if there was a European warehouse. The reply was: go ahead and buy it on Amazon USA then when you receive it do a review with BTS photos and we will refund the extra costs via Paypal. End of sad story
  16. Perhaps at one time, when they bought it, the site might have had some relevance in bringing sales to Amazon. It was still the glorious period of forums and blogs. But now all the traffic comes from influencers and fu@@ing youtubers with affiliate schemes. It's much cheaper and that's how it all runs now. The shameful thing is that the site is really part of the global internet culture and it doesn't make sense to shut it down in a month. They probably already have a buyer. At least I hope so. Chris and Jordan can do the same anywhere and with anyone but the mountain of info accumulated over the years on the site has enormous cultural value.
  17. I've just saw this video that shows very well what's going on with these settings. Enable English subtitles and then it's straightforward. NR01=1 effectively improve the image details but you are forced to use a denoiser (he uses Resolve temporal denoiser). LOGB=400 doesn't add any improvement. Just jump to 1'42"
  18. I think it's a huuuuuge bug 🙂 This is the explanation: LOGB=logbase, offset - Super experimental, alter the log encoding for more dynamic range, or for a closer match with other camera’s log curves. i.e design your own flat profile. Ideal for use with 10-bit, and the existing flat color setting. e.g. oMLOGB=400 for a little push in dynamic range or oMLOGB=200,-128 for a crude Fuji F-Log emulation. Note: As the pixel size isn’t changing, that increasing the logbase (flatness) may not significantly increase the dynamic range. You could try to enter it manually
  19. I'm realizing the app is very buggy. The log option should be oMLOGB and the app puts oMLOGO
  20. Just installed and tried on my GP11 Back and it works. I used QRControl app to myphone. The code itself is !MBITR=[value] The value you choose can be from 2 to 200 (note, anything lower than 100 DECREASES quality and file size). So, if you wanted to increase the bitrate to 150 mbits/s, the code would be !MBITR=150 If you use the QRControl app, just slide the top menu to "Extras" and then use the drop-down menu to select BITR. You can choose to make the change permanent (until you change it) or leave it on the default. If you don't make it permanent, the camera will revert back to the default once you turn it off. Reading here https://gopro.github.io/labs/control/extensions/ Log, bitrate and noise reduction should be used together. I tried oMNR01=10oMBITR=200oMLOGO="400" Just copy and paste in the "add command" text area in the QRControl app or just select your preferred values form Extras menu and it will add the correct controls for you. I got a 180Mb file flat color profile but very noisy. Maybe oMNR01=10 is too low. I think that for my use I will just increase the bitrate. NR01=x - Noise Reduction control, which should be combined with the LOGB control. e.g. oMNR01=50 range 1-100, 100 being 100% active (default), so 1 is the noisest. When pushing the dynamic range of any camera, shadow details may be suppress by noise reduction. Increasing the logbase will enhance the shadows, but will also reveal noise reduction artifacts tuned for a different encoding curve (the more consumer friendly Rec709.) You can back-off the noise reduction to restore shadow details, with the downside being a noiser image (protentially requiring noise reduction in post.) Also a noiser image will need a higher-bitrate to store the additional information (so BITR, NR01 and LOGB are all related.)
