this guy is funny, but also very sharp. his style emphasizes on stealthy street shooting, women slow mo. lol.

I guess those friends of op want op to donate his lenses to them. think about it. the vintage cameras and the lenses are luxury goods, sold to rich people. rich people care about their health more than poor men. lol.

I guess that the Rec 2020 has a wider gamut than Rec 709. the mapping may not be accurate enough. Another possibility is that Davinci Resolve may not understand the OM-1 10-bit footage well enough to produce accurate results.
-
I guess the OM-1 sensor is optimized for DR, sacrificing the high ISO performance. Its DR is said to be at least 1 stop better than EM-1 2 and 3.

just watched the godfather and dune on amazon on a 50 inch Sony 4k tv. dune 1 seems significantly clearer than godfather 1 2. film stocks in the late 1990s and early 2000 seem at 4k level. it is overkill to use a 8k camera to scan even the latest negative. significantly more storage, very little gain. the fashion of using the film seems nostalgia, in stead of true technical advantage.

amazon prime streaming movie looks much better. not sure why. my guess is that the camera used for movie is much better than for news, and this carries on in the final product.

eos m, 700d/650d/100d has magic lantern waveform.

The Z50 II offers a better video mode than the Z50 and is definitely the one to buy if you're predominantly a videographer. The original model offered 4K/30p and Full HD/120p recording modes. The new Z50 II offers 4K/60p, albeit with a 1.5x crop, 4K/30p oversampled from 5.6k with no crop, and Full HD/120p. It also provides 10-bit N-Log for the first time ever on a DX camera, along with the ability to use RED Luts. There is a red video record light on the front of the Z50 II and a red framing border is displayed on the LCD screen when recording. The Z50 II has a 2x Hi-res zoom for full HD video with 11 zoom speeds. There is no loss in resolution, unlike a digital zoom, because the camera records in 4K first then converts to 1080p. Sound is also improved on the Z50 II, thanks to its built-in stereo mic and the option to attach an external mic. It also offers an onboard wind-noise reduction function and a headphone socket.

the reason why sports news are good may be due to the use of the Alexa like Amira, a35, etc.

I too think 1080p is good enough for news, as long as less compression. oled may beautify the news a lot. yeh, 100 inch tv is a wall.
-
maybe the final broadcasting compression is much higher than the 50 mpbs mpeg2 1080p. 50 mpbs mpeg2 1080p itself may be ok, as long as there is no panning or tilting, when I view on a 27 inch 4k monitor with a viewing distance of one and a half feet. I also notice that almost all of the scenes about the direct realtime local interviews transmitted through the satellite are even much worse (maybe sd level resolution) than the general scenes. anyways, my user experience on iPad is much better than large screen tv.

good to know. I thought of reconnecting cable news (I have cable internet, Comcast). if ota is better, then I will stay off the grid. I really doubt if the 100 inch tvs will sell like mainstream tv sizes in the next several years. the current network news quality cannot catch up to the 100 inch tv size.
-
mine is through the air off the grid. maybe cable news is better due to wider bw. through the air, it is just not bearable.
-
from my experience, f3 has a far better sensor.

f5 has internal rgb444 2k 440 mbps, where f3 lacks. its 4k is the same as 2k. shoulder ergonomics is great, only second to top tier 2/3 pro eng cams. pro I/o.
-
why uninstall rgb444 upgrade? just put on an 422 1080p external recorder is enough. maybe you want to transfer this rgb444 to your good 422 f3? if so, good luck.
-
on a 50 inch 4k tv, with a viewing distance of 3-5 meters, even on hd news channels, the image quality is just not as good as on iPad. I think the compression is the culprit. lossless or uncompressed 1080p should be fine. 1080p 50 mbps mpeg2 so called network news standard is junk.

for 8 bit cams, better to use in cam picture profiles. even good 8 bit cams like c300 og cannot do much post with its 8 bit 422 codec. if you like post, then choose other suitable cams like bm, red, magic lantern, etc.
-
take what i said as you like. my now strategy is to use canon cinema line cams for events, streets, i.e., people face related scenarios. i don't use the handle and the xlr/monitor, so the ergonomics is nice for my needs. i use sony cams like f3, fs100, fs700, f5, fs7, for landscape. sorry, sony fanboys. it is what it is. af100 is difficult to use, i can only use it for events, but it is not as good as canon cams for skin tones, but it is good for pattern related situations, c300 og sometimes has alias and moire artefacts. i use my reds and magic lantern cams for heavy post.
-
actually 8 bit cams have a distinct advantage. using c300 og as an example, its default wide dr and eos standard picture profiles are very usable. canon has to offer its best to make buyers happy with its 8 bit codec. I am very happy with these two profiles, good enough for almost all of my needs.

when I built my set of leica r lenses, I thought I would stop there. guess what, I start cas on medium format lenses. you move into high level cas. it is always reaching the limit of your wallet. truth hurts, so does the wallet. lol.
-
leica lenses are really good. no doubt about it. I rate them as the best in my lenses collection. Zeiss Contax and zf lenses are also very good, different rendering style. for portraiture, I think leica lenses are the best.

I present some of my photos on beautiful landscape views to others, who usually view these photos on their phones. some of the photos were taken with 18 mp cmos cameras, some were take with 5 mp ccd cameras. guess which ones do you think they like?
-
when I bought my set of leica r lenses more than 10 years ago, I was very careful with the versions and the focal length and user experience, to only buy lenses made in Germany. you are right, some of them are from Minolta.
