I consider myself power viewer, above 95% common viewers in theatre or watching tv. if power viewers like me don't give a dime about 48 p vs 24p, typically those 95% viewers don't neither. it is just like red fans brag about 8k and bm fans brag about 12k, at the end of the day, typical users are satisfied with high quality good color 720p, at most 1080p. you can say they are uneducated, unsophisticated, stupid, but they are the customers buying the tickets.

this correlates to my previous comment that displaying technology is democratizing 60p. giving another one or two decades, people will get used to watch 60p and shoot 60p using their phones. i remember when 5d2 and 7d just came out, about 2008-2009, i told someone who thought he was better than me in photography and videography that 5d2 and 7d would disrupt the ex1/ex3 and 2/3 pro eng cams, he laughed that such a stupid idea would even existed. years later, i saw him bring his rebel t5i doing hybrid shooting on street fairs. lol.

gp 12 battery each lasts about 1 h at most. probably i need to find some usb charging cable for longer time car mount usage.

i watched titanic and avatar i 3d in theatre when they were just released. never thought they were shot on 48p. i also watched hobbit series in theatre, although i knew they were shot on 48p, but hey, my eyes did not care less.

interesting, just did some research on hfr movies, avatar series and titanic are also 48p, gemini man 120p. james cameron and ang lee are no fools neither.

when i watch these well known hfr movies, i never have a second thought that these movies are junk made by non artists non scientists amateur dps. i just immerse myself in the movies and enjoy the story lines. i have watched lor and hobbit many times, about equal to god father trilogy and matrix trilogy. never had a negative thought about them. the only thing for me to complain is that there is no more episode. lol.

if 24p is so critically fundamental in cinematography, then lor and hobbit and gemini should have been total disasters and have had huge loss in money making. on the contrary, they are so successful, envied by many holly wood directors and dps.

not sure about the universal hate thing. lor and hobbit series are regarded as one of best series, not just by me, but by most of the viewers. peter jackson is not a fool himself.

the displaying technology is improving, most 4k tv now has 60 hz or 120 hz or even 240 hz, youtube has 4k 60p, the trend will follow. new generation of viewers used to youtube 4k 60p never care about 24p. in the near future, 24p will be a nostalgic look, like betacam, lomocam, sepia, etc.

tried again. in a typical in car temp, gp 12 shuts down at about 15 min even duration is set to no limit. turning on ac to maximal scale in window/front oanel/driver mode, seems solve the issue. man, it is such a "cool" experience.

totally agree. i use hanheld most of the time, because of its convenience. but sometimes when i look at my footage from a tripod session, i am always amazed by the image quality, the cam movement is so nice, wide angle panning and tilting are almost perfect. i also don't like grain, no matter how "organic" it is claimed, it is just noise. i think the real filmic characters are high light rolling off, and the color, which are why alexa and f35 excel in either category. the shallow dof holy grail has been already busted since 5d2. not much left for film.

gen z boys and gals grow up with 1080p or 4k 60p. to them, the so called 24p motion cadence aesthetics is just old school. there is nothing magic for 24p, just the old school grand daddies' habit who watch too many old holly wood movies. these grand daddies' grand daddies like 16p no sound movie more than 24p sound movie for the same reason. lol. time changes.

24p is hailed as cinematic. it was just a frugal approach at the time of film days. 5k 60p of gp 12 is so smooth. seeing is believing.

maybe it is better to have raw action cams, overheating may be a less issue than the current crop. it seems anti intuitive, but it is not. if sd overclocking is not activated, 1080p vista vision 5d3 ml raw is less likely to have overheating issue than 5d3 stock 1080p or 5d4 etc.

gp 12 overheats so quickly. in car without ac on, it only records 15 minutes and shutdown. if it is hot summer, wo ac, probably less than 5 min.

for tiny action cams, 10 bit log is the way to go. in cam painting is very thin. cam body is small, no room for powerful gpu. no 10 bit log is a critical weak point.

Gp12 battery uses up quickly. Especially after installing gp labs firmware.

for gp12 or maybe earlier ones, dr is more on the dark less on the highlight. not a pro expensive sensor.

He fixed at iso 100, so maybe iso 100 is gp 12's native ISO.

So probably two modes need to be set to use gp log. One in sunny scene to protect highlight, which uses the default ae with the secret -2 ev locking in. Another in cloudy or indoor scene to reduce the noise in the shade, either don't use the gp log, or use +2 ev for each shot.

gplog is 68% IRE, according to this video.

Interesting, gp actually integrates -2 EV into its ae in log mode. So we actually need to do +1 EV to lose a little bit of highlight, but reduce a lot of shade noise. "You might wonder how to color grade or color correct GP-Log. The problem is that no matter how good you are at color grading, the exposure needs to be right in order to get good results. With the release of Gopro hero 12 Black, Gopro also released GP-Log or Gopro Log to the official firmware. But they implemented it with a secret EV comp of -2. I think this is going to be even more disrupting as the new raspberry pi 5 is just announced. I figure that cinepi 3 based on pi 5 may do 8k raw on a s16/1-inch sensor, at about $500.
