  1. now I appreciate Olympus ibis more, as om-1 has a smaller body than gh6/7. in a smaller body, incorporating a world class ibis, and longer battery life, there must be some secret sauce.
  2. gerald undone thinks that s1 has a much better ibis than s5. probably the bigger body, the high power consumption, helps to maintain a higher performance ibis system in s1. sometimes bigger body still reigns.
  3. s5iix seems improves the ibis significantly upon s1h, s5.
  4. a young guy like him spends about $3000 for a s 5 ii/x and a 50 mm prime lens and a gimbal, spends sometime practicing, then gets shots at Hollywood blockbuster level only available to a closed circle 10 years ago. amazing time.
  5. s5 ii with a 50mm prime. pretty good. certainly not as good as a gimbal, but the static handheld shots are good enough.
  6. s5 iix /s5 ii seems pretty good at 20mm. there is high cropping factor when using eis.
  7. wide angle seems fine, he used s1h and a 28 mm Zeiss lens.
  8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SadhXkn9VE0 https://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/44977-enjoying-the-panasonic-s1-again/page/5/ This one was done by a member several years ago using his S1. He tested mf 90mm, 85mm, 55mm lenses. Seems to me that S1 ibis is at a similar level to EM-5, a little bit worse. I tested EM-5 ibis extensively 10 years ago. On EM-5, 25mm and wider is tripod like, 25-50mm is monopod like, over 50mm the footage is possibly usable, but there is no guarantee. I suppose OM-1 ibis is significantly better than EM-5. There are about three generations in between. With Resolve's Stabilization, S1 ibis may be OK. According to my experience, Resolve's stabilization generates artifacts, the degree of the artifacts is different from different codecs, different frame rates, and different settings. Not sure why.
  9. skin tones and color are correlated inherently. difference races have different skin colors, need different ire to exposure right, the sensor and the color array filter also need to be optimized for these. very complicated. in the future, I will not be surprised that some cameras are designed for white people, some for black people, some for asian. this is huge market. I think in the film era, that Kodak film stock portra is optimized for white people, fuji provia is optimized for asian people. maybe there are film stocks optimized for black people, etc.
  10. you are right, he did not compare om-1 to g9ii extensively. I suspect that he did the test privately, but he did not want to publish the results to hurt penny sells. om-1 can couple with some lenses with ois, like 12-100mm f4, 300mm f4.
  11. I think it depends. when the resolution is low, resolution is the most critical criteria. after reaching 1080p or 4k, resolution is not that important. dr is good enough once it reaches 11-12 stops, going to 15 stops, but sacrificing the mid tones, i.e., the skin tones, it is not the right way. canon sensor is tuned for skin tones, so lower dr, Nikon sensor is tuned for dr, and the skin tones are not good. I think right now, the color and the skin tones should kick in as the most important criteria, as we already have 1080p and 4k available everywhere. dr is at least 10-12 stops for most of the cameras now.
  12. totally agree. color and skin tones are essential and critical. if 5d3 does not have the magic lantern hack, it is nothing. with the hack, it is a 14-bit color depth raw camera, I doubt if there is another camera having this feature. Alexa is 14 bit, but most of the time people use prores4444 instead of arriraw.
  13. he tested both, dual is, single ibis, and other modes.
  14. I took a look at my footage of 5d3ml using 5.7k anamorphic or 3.5k crop mode pixel by pixel 14 bit color lossless ml raw. I cannot help smiling. the color is the best, the resolution is good enough even to the current standard. only f3 with the Zeiss lens can reach to similar level in terms of color. color, color, color.
  15. g9ii has the best ibis in Panasonic Lumix line m43 (now surely gh7), g9ii is little worse than s5ii at 24mm ff, but much better than s5ii at 120mm ff. Olympus om-1 surely is better than g9ii. seems to me that full frame ibis is not mature yet, unless you want to only use wide angle lenses. at 24mm or wider, s5ii seems very good.
  16. This is comparable to canon's lens optical is. at 200mm, it is acceptable. with resolve's digital is added, it may work ok.
  17. it is good to know that eis works with walking on om-1. this helps me to make the decision to buy one. I am happy already with stable standstill shots, some panning and tilting. walking is a plus, not essential. thanks for the detailed reply. regards,
  18. nice. good for mtv and commercial work.
  19. another lens with beautiful flare is the affordable soviet helios 44-2 50mm f2 or 58mm f2, forgot the exact name. very strong flare, but very beautiful, artistic.
  20. I used to shoot a lot using helicoid with enlarging lenses. great iq. flares a lot due to no coating. if put on a lens hood or Matt box, they have some of the best iq I have seen. nowadays people think flare is artistic, then they are probably the most artistic lenses as they are naked. lol.
  21. thanks for the footage. walking seems having some jittering. seems related to the lens. maybe it is wide angle? I think davinci resolve digital stabilization may smoothen it out. the standstill stabilization is perfect. regards,
  22. 10 years ago I used ltm Leica 50mm f2 on em-5 for video. In the bright sun, there is dreamy look, not sharp, milky like, maybe due to the single coating. if paired with a latest sharp camera, it will look nice. modern lenses cannot have this kind of vintage look. just like super baltar s35 lenses. very artistic. not everyone's cup of tea though.
  23. there is latex adapter to permanently change the mount. I have my Leica r 19mm f2.8 and r100 f2.8 changed to ef mount. very robust. I bought each $80-$100 10 years ago. not sure now.
