  1. Yeah I know it’s niche, that’s why I posted here LOL. Coming from GH5 where I had access to my whole Contax set on a metabones with an extra stop of light, it’s been a bummer not being able to take advantage on L Mount. I can make do with my adapted Sigma 18-35mm for S35 modes but I would love to have the extra light gathering and wides back. My main curiosity that no one‘s been able to answer is why Metabones has pages devoted to several L mount speed boosters, but finding them used is nearly impossible at this point.
  2. Wow, not a single comment? No one is speed boosting down to S35 on their older S cameras?
  3. As someone who frequently covers events and a "one man band" travel doc shooter, I have also been watching this space closely the last 10 years. Oftentimes it's just the mental shift for me because stills and video are just different enough to need a slight mental adjustment to plan/prepare for action stuff. I've gotten better with time but my safety net has been to add redundancy and more bodies. Or to just commit to high resolution video and pray some of the stills will work out. (Not ideal) In Tokyo a couple of years back I was shooting some martial arts action and really needed to get some stills but was also unsure of how much time/access I would be given in this very private dojo. I was shooting open gate 5k on two GH5 bodies, (One Static and one Handheld with Sigma 18-35mm f1.8. I also had a little GX85 with wide angle speed boosted Contax mounted overhead at 4k. The mental load of running the 3 cameras for the video shoot was enough that switching modes to cover stills just felt too much to add. Luckily the client was ok pulling 5k stills for social and even printed some of the action shots. With a lot of travel, (Nepal,Japan, India) the M43 system and GH5/s was amazing for size, weight and cost. But jumping back into FF has definelty made things more of a challenge in all of those areas and I am also thinking now about just two GFX bodies now. Maybe a GFX 100 ii and an X-H2s. Or just get 4 various Lumix S bodies in 2024 for pennies and dedicate an S1R for stills and make sure I use it.
  4. I just had some GH5 5k video (open gate) stills published in a couple books. Was shocked they printed up so well. Everyone was happy with the images but I was super nervous. Amazing what the general public is OK with while us nerds get in fights online over camera functions LOL.
  5. Coming from years with the trusty GH5 and GH5s combo, I'm missing my Metabones Speed Booster options and want to start playing around on cheap Lumix S cameras now that the prices are dropping like crazy. 4k/60p and Super 35 modes with the speed boosters and my various vintage glass sounds like a fun project. Questions; 1. What ever happened to the Metabones Speed Boosters for L-Mount? There are product pages buried on the site but did they ever actually go into production? Mandela effect? https://www.metabones.com/products/details/MB_SPNFG-L-BM1 2. I read something about some of the flange/clearance distance not working and hitting the shutter? If so, does the S9 now offer the option for a Speed Booster in S35 mode or is it still too compact to allow for the optics? Sigma FP is OK because of no mechanical shutter? https://kipon.com/product/ef-l-af-0-7/ https://laowacine.com/product/0-7x-focal-reducer-for-probe-lens/ With the new batch of Mark ii Lumix S camera's I'm hoping cropped 4k/60p will be a thing of the past but since I will be scooping up used first gen models for cheap B and C cameras, I would like some options for adapting/boosting my vintage glass.

    Lumix S9

What about uncropped 4k/60p? Internal ND?

    Lumix S9

Anyone saying this camera is underwhelming is hilarious to me. I just sold my 6 year old GX85 for $750 last week and this upgrade to FF for my little street photo/C camera is amazing. For really close to the same form factor I get new PD autofocus, full frame, 4k/60, open gate, VLOG, audio input…. AND ANAMORPHIC….!!! I understand that this might not be the camera for you but there’s no way this thing is anything but amazing for its size, features and price. I have an S1H for A cam doc/travel work and then an S5iix for B-Cam/gimbal. This S9 will live in my bag as a a back up, quick grab camera for unexpected shots or minimal low key stuff. Great action cam, mounted for interior car shots or just pocketable street stuff. To me this camera is a great sign that the tech from the older S-series cameras is making it’s way to a camera like this and that means the newer cameras coming soon will have some great new features. O crop (4k/60) looks like they’re trying to go after the Fuji X100V crowd with the custom LUTs etc… OK, not sure about the marketing and yes, always late to the party but what a fun party it is.
