Ok in what must be in world record time. Both the card reader and the memory card arrived today. Honestly wasn't expecting them for another week or so. You know its almost impossible to extricate items from their plastic package without totally destroying that packaging... Lord i hope i don't need to send it back... Not used Kingston before, but from years ago i knew they made ram chips, thought i'd take a chance. I have used Ugreen before and had no issues with their products and it was the cheapest uh2 reader. I should probably download some kind of speed test program to see if i got my moneys worth. The sirui has been living on the e-m1 at the moment. I take both with me when i go out in the car, it sits on the front seat with a towel thrown over it. Hopefully no one works out there's $2000 worth of camera and lens just sitting there. I must be some kind of optimist as the amount of moisture that keeps falling from the sky is impressive. Theres a busker that sits out the front of the local supermarket some days. I'm guessing he has done some living as i think he'd make a suitable candidate for some black and white photography. He has a dog as well and i reckon i can squeeze everything into a photo with 24mm sirui. I then plan to steal, adopt, modify some ideas Mercer mentioned in the lens thread and see where that leads. Turns out i have crystal disk mark on the comp already. Formatted the card and a quick test gives me this. which is slightly better than advertised on the packaging. Thats with the ugreen card reader into a c port on the top of the computer. Its turning into a bit of a blog isnt it ? Next challenge is to shoot some video.

Do you really need a plot ? I have watched alot of stuff on netflix and i'm not so sure a plot is the main ingredient any more. Admittedly there's some good stuff on netlfix, but what the ratio of good to less than good is i'm not sure.

I have done some soldering recently, wonder if i could get a green card ? If i can smuggle in a steer for you guys it will be a win / win situation π

It won't be just the cameras, electronics. The first item on the news tonight was the story about trump adding 10% to the price of aussie cattle. You guys in the USA better start working on a vegan diet perhaps, as we have the worst drought in 20 years happening down in Victoria and in Queensland almost a third of the state is under water. Losses so far are around 100 000 cattle and sheep and that's just the animals that we are interested in counting. You can bet the price of beef is about to go up here and if it goes up for us it will affect you guys too and a tariff on top as well. I just hope you guys have really good accountants, as its not hard to imagine trump trying to divert some of those funds to a charitable cause, like himself.

I visited my brothers place today, took a few photos. His place is abit like Noah's ark after the flood. Cattle, sheep, a couple of types of chickens, jap quail and guinea fowl. Cuteness warning ahead, heres a couple of baby chickens and quail photos that i think turned out ok. Eventually they'll end up running around in the paddocks with the other chickens. At the moment their bite size portions for nearly everything...

A few firsts today... turning up my first wood vase. Done a few smaller things like wood pens. Really upping my gamesmanship with an old root ball. Pretty nerve racking spinning up an almost out of round root ball at 360 rpm. The plan is to turn it down some more then make a cone shape for it, and add some coloured resin. The resin is about $50 a litre here. Which is why i want to get most of the shape established before i add the resin. Cheap cost cutting measure i hope. Photo taken with the new to me, em1 mark iii and a sirui 24mm anamorphic. I have had the sirui for a little while. These are pretty much the first serious photos taken with camera and lens. Hopefully i have the stretch right. Straight out of camera apart from stretching it. I'm thinking i have a minimalist mindset as thats pretty much how i remember the photo. If i had to change the colour or anything else, it would have to be subtle. Thats how i'm approaching it, but what do you guys think ? We are looking down on the vase as its pretty cramped between the lathe and wall and with the minimum 600mm, 2 foot focus distance of the sirui, it necessitated that particular viewpoint. the tilting, swing out monitor does come in handy in this situation. Also i did order an uhs2 256gb card and a uhs2 reader off amazon, i did try B&h however they came in a bit dearer on the price and postage as well.
-
Awesome, thanks guys. I had forgotton about b&h, i have dealt with them before. Ill give them another look.

Yes i'm learning that. One of the next things i'd like to do is get a uhs type 2 card. I either hunt one down from a camera shop which entails a bit of a drive and a store mark up or i get one online. I have heard some horror stories about buying cards from ebay, so i'm loathe to go the route of cards off ebay. Not so sure about amazon however. Anyone have issues from buying uhs cards from amazon ? My comp has usb ports marked SS not sure what that equates too. Theres also a type c on the front and one type c on the back. From my online searches it seems best to use a type c port and run a uhs adapter to the c port for optimum performance. which sounds logical / reasonable. So a type 2 adapter is also on the list. I have less issues about a card reader from ebay. Also its been raining the last few days, so nothing productive from that side of things yet. I did however acquire a couple more rocks, first is under room light. second with uv light. uv light in one hand camera in other hand, not exactly ideal The frog is cnc machined and cost a lousy $6. Absolutely crazy what can be done these days. Some Brazilian stone from memory.

Since every type of movie has pretty much been done and dusted already, i guess the only thing left to do is make another remake but make it more life like, if thats the correct term. I presume the original would have been made for under ten year olds. This looks like it would appeal to 12- 13 year olds so just another grab for some dollars... I haven't been around the forum for long, however do i detect a note of satire in your text ? The hoodie looks a bit tattered to me, personally i'd go with, he's under dressed and she's overdressed. Which mirrors life anyway lol.

finding good service people is getting harder and harder i reckon, if all else fails maybe one of those lens rehousing services could help. If their pulling a lens apart and machining parts, cleaning and lubing a lens should be a piece of cake, but maybe not cheap... would depend on how you value the lens as to whether it is worthwhile or not. Btw i like what you doing with the black and white images care to share a little of your processing / workflow?

I flattened a battery messing around with settings and trying different things... so in the end i did reformat the camera. funnily enough a gavin hoey video on dual card slots from 6 years ago popped up in my youtube feed in the first couple of listings that night. I didn't search for it on youtube but i did google dual card slots, i presume there's some "information sharing" going on in windows. Complicated doesn't begin to cover it lol. So far i have assigned the card slot, set up peaking and magnify for both photos and video. I initially set peaking up for video, switched to photos and wondered what happened to the peaking. I "wrongly" thought it would carry over. Seems like, olympus gives you lots of options. I'm going to experiment with it as it is now and move on from there.

pardon my ignorance, wouldn't the yellowing add some kick to a sunrise / sunset? I guess that would make it a bit of a one trick pony. I have been thinking on and off about acquiring a "yellow" lens just for that particular reason.

I'm embarrassed to say, things didn't quite go to plan. I did read the manual, maybe not the whole manual.., I formatted the card easy enough. Then called it a night. Once i got to town i learnt i couldn't take a photo. Something about not assigning a card drive to taking photos. While the camera is smart enough to format a card in camera it wont take a photo and store with out explicitly being told too apparently. Never had that problem before but then i never had a camera that has two card slots either. Live and learn i guess. Not sure what i did to fix it or the how either but i can take photos now lol. New plan, do the same thing again (but take photos this time) tomorrow or more likely Saturday.

thats the thing, isn't it ? how do we educate those poor lost souls ? I don't have tik tok, maybe there's some interesting tik tok stuff out there... but i kinda liken movies to bread. you got your ingredients, you mix ingredients thoroughly, let it rise for a time. then place it into an oven, hopefully you end up with something that can sustain you. Simple analogy i know. From what i perceive about tik tok its throw in some ingredients, agitate vigorously and serve, cooking is optional... is it bread ? i don't think so.

I fear some sort of penance needs to be invoked !! like a 3 minute short, story and camera of your choice π Must be hard work owning a cinema but the same could probably be said for any job these days. I hear you on the loud personal conversations and kids thing. Although kids are always going to be kids, still they could be taught some manners (wishful thinking). For me a phone ringing is a red flag nothing takes away from the moment like a phone ringing. Usually there's no one sitting in the first couple of rows, so i have taken to sitting in the front row. I kinda like it at the front, the screen appears bigger and since i don't have eyes in the back of my head its less distracting. That might be just how my brain works however. I watched the first episode. i did like the visuals / cinematography. However it took at least 1/2 to 3/4 of the episode to figure what was going on lol

Yay its arrived.. Battery was as flat as a tack. Got it on charge now. Visually it perfect, there's not a mark on it. Got a somewhat free day tomorrow. i plan on taking photos of all the murals that have been painted on various walls in and around town. and some video as well probably.

Good value if your travelling to aus with your tourist $$, bad value if your a local wanting to buy anything abroad and don't forget the gst. I fear it will only get worse with that idiot in the white house.

1) same here it seems... although i usually finish the popcorn about halfway through π i have seen tales of the loop advertised but never clicked on it. I'll have to give it a go. i really liked the Peripheral on prime that almost did my head in a couple of times.. and night skies, that took a while to get started however, and 3 pines i liked the scenery and somewhat quirky characters.

If i get caught up in the movie i don't really notice anyone else. Until its time to leave, then its form a line with everyone else and trample out. When its a good movie everyone is abuzz and there's a good atmosphere and thats nice to be a part of. I noticed that with the latest bay boys and the axel F sequel. I don't think either brought anything new to the franchise, however they were well received and everyone one walked out chatty like. I try to do my bit for the cinemas and support them when i can. During covid and just after, crowd numbers were way down, even now i seriously doubt that they have recovered to pre covid levels. I do have prime and netflix acc's watching a new release is $18-24 on prime here. I may as well go to the cinemas for that price or wait a couple of months till it comes down to $6 which is a much more reasonable price considering the internet speeds here. On a personal level, i have kinda discovered Noir movies. There's something about the absence of colour that i find interesting. Maybe its the period its set in, so different from today. Once my camera turns up i intend to develop more of a black and white mentality. My other camera is slowly dying it has a couple of issues it still takes pictures and records considering its 16 years old i guess i haven't done too bad lol.
-
i'm first, not that its a competition or anythingπ however it doesn't take much to entertain me, so i'll lead off with the fact that i'm waiting for the accountant 2 to hit the cinemas. I liked the first one, so i'm quite happy go for a drive and watch a movie, buy some popcorn, consume that with the expectation that i should enjoy the second.

Not a fan of DHL it took two days for my camera to cross japan (which is pretty good i would think) a day to transit to here and for the last 13 days straight its been sitting somewhere in a warehouse, with a clearance event / on hold message every day. Technically they still have 5 days to deliver it. Considering its a 6 hour round trip. I presume there's 2 drivers busying themselves, playing rock, paper, scissors. 28 February 20256:52 pm (UTC +10:00) Clearance Event xxxx 1 Piece ID: jxxxxxxxxx Friday28 February 20256:52 pm (UTC +10:00) Shipment is on hold xxxxxxxxx 1 Piece ID: jxxx

I don't normally google people, but for the sake of science. It actually takes more than 0.5 seconds to google someone, i just tried it... Well it takes me longer... not sure what says about my internet skills. Hello, I'm Ed! I'm a director and DP based in London with a focus in socially conscious, factual work. yada, yada, yadda. I hope i googled the right person because that could be embarrassing. Likes dark colours obviously. Cant hold the beard or glasses against him either, as i have both too. I do worry that he goes dressed out at night in dark clothing, cause thats like, just asking to be run over, he should probably have some hi vis on... Maybe Mr Reid knows him, however i don't and neither does eatstoomuchjam apparently.. Although i do watch media division and generally like their content. They do produce some pretty slick content, but at the end of the day their still selling something. Not sure how, there's no obvious affiliate links. I'd say 90 % of youtube are trying to sell you something. Perhaps the other 10% are approaching it from the other end and hoping to review stuff and and keep it. If i was cynical i'd then say, sell it on the quiet a few weeks later. However its 2025 and that kinda stuff wouldn't happen right ? Btw at what age can i justify grumpy old men syndrome ? (i feel like im almost there...) I know its a small group and not everyone lives long enough to join. I feel like there should be a merit badge or button perhaps for when you do. Being grumpy doesn't necessarily make you wrong either, just grumpy. Me being me, i tend to avoid the obviously grumpier ones (there's some real gold for you there ! ) eatstoomuchjam, may i suggest you add some Manuka honey, either Nz honey or Australian maluka honey. Both have excellent antimicrobial and antibacterial characteristics. affiliate links down below...π
