Hey all, I'm looking to shoot a narrative short film with controlled lighting early next year and am thinking about shooting it on my original BMPCC... I know, I know. No 4K, terrible low-light, and horrible battery life. But if 1080p was fine, controlled lighting throughout, and an external battery solution, is it better for me to use the original and cancel my 4K pre-order? I could use the money saved to pay for an additional cine prime/actually pay actors a decent wage... What would be the advantages in this case of using the 4K over the original?

Went to Pinpoint Muay Thai and shot some test footage with the Kinefinity Terra 6K. Shot in 4K with a helios44-2 modified by vidatlantic to have oval bokeh. Hope you like it...

I just got a brand new 1dx Mark II, I’m using a SanDisk cf card, not a cfast card. I recorded a lot of 4K footage, and about half of it came back corrupted - I could view it in the camera, but not on the computer. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Can I get the footage repaired? I can’t find anyone else who has had this problem so far.

First 2 videos are in 4K 30p. Last video was shot in 1080p30. You see a little less noise in 1080p because of the crop and that's why I decided to shoot it in that mode. All clips done in fully automatic. Shutter was always at 60.

I just finished my new anamorphic wildlife video. I filmed for three days over the last few months on St. Vincent Island Wildlife Refuge. A very unique and beautiful place. So before you and I get lost in Starwars, The Revenant and The Hateful Eight, please sit back relax and take a journey through this wild island with me. Technical: Filmed on a Panasonic GH4 in 4k Bolex 16/32 1.5x anamorphic lens with Voigtländer 25mm F0.95, Voigtländer 42.5mm F0.95 and Takumar SMC 135mm F2.5 V2 as taking lens. I shot in anamorphic 4:3 mode on GH4.

Hey all, This is a tricky one, I made this video of a hovercraft for a company extremesports.ie, some people really like it but some people think its too generic! I would like to work on my style and make it more my video style rather than generic action sports videos! Any tips? Im filming a big project in a month or two with Cliff Jumping, Massive Bungee Jumps and more action sports. Great to hear your thoughts Also if you can watch in 4k!

We wanted to try compositing basic 3D VFX in the background with GH4 4K video (inspired by videogames I used to write). I used 3DS Max to create a simple scene with an alpha channel and tried to composite everything in Premiere Pro CC. Unfortunately, PPro (and AE) have issues with the 3DSMax alpha channel (not a premultiplied color issue) and the low levels of the alpha channel appear to get clipped, cutting off subtle glows, etc., making correct compositing impossible. So I moved the background plate into 3DS Max and rendered the 3D elements directly on top. I had originally planned for a much more complex 3D scene, including having objects come out of the background and go around her head, but the time spent trying to work around the compositing issue took too much time.

Download the 4K original here NX1 is in stock at B&H ($1499) The light in Berlin is dreary during winter, so I took the NX1 off for a break in the Portuguese city of Lisbon last week. This place has the best weather in Europe and the best light. A magical place. It gave me a perfect chance to get under the skin of the NX1 - and see just what it can do in the real world. so the other week i decided to finally shoot something with the a7s (after getting it I'd been too busy to use it) and shogun. this is the result (30 seconds): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJutz_AWErs and my write-up about where i think i went wrong, and what i plan on doing in the future: http://caseywilsondp.com/2015/02/10/sony-a7s-and-atomos-shogun/ (if you don't want to read it, my biggest problem was that I under-exposed too much with slog2 and had to heavily de-noise the night shots)

Hello, I've been experimenting with shooting anamorphic video on my GH4 in 4K photo mode, using a Rectimascop 48/2x adaptor. The more I shoot, the more I see the need to monitor the unsqueezed video in real time, for better control of composition and focus. Can anyone recommend an HDMI field monitor, 5" to 7", with the ability to stretch the video width x2? Many thanks, Izhar

Hi all, A footage with the GH4 in 4K anamorphic, using the baby Iscomorphot 8/1.5x. In only one shot, I used a Tokina +0.4 achromat diopter. All shots at f/2.8! Lens was the Nikon 50mm f/1.8 Series E, along with the Metabones Speed Booster. Both this lovely anamorphic & the Tokina are for sale. PM for details. Enjoy!

Hi guys, I've been a lurker in the forums for quite some time now, but this is my initial post. I received my GH4 yesterday and have been playing with different setups. This is the best so far. Regular shoulder-rig with cage. A Røde shotgun mic with pistol grip attached to a super clamp which is attached to the cage. Sounds like a bad idea, but works wonderfully, and are easy to detach. There is no wiggle or instability. The Røde is connected to the Zoom H4N which is connected to the Panasonic. I've had great results so far with my testing and its hard to tell the difference between the GH4 Audio and the H4N recording. You can of course record audio with the recorder and have great referance audio in the GH4. Works really good when you don't have a designated audio-guy. // Johannes

Hi everybody, How well does cropping in to a moving shot with some rolling shutter work on the GH4? I ask this because I do a lot of run and gun, handheld street video and my 5dmk2 works well except for some annoying rolling shutter issues. I'm looking for another camera now. I am sure the Sony A7s has a nicer image, especially in dark situations but since I shoot in daytime and all of my stuff gets compressed on the web anyway I was leaning towards the GH4 for the ability to crop and solve those rolling shutter issues as well as the issue of shooting with only one camera and not having enough shot sizes to work with. Thanks in advance.

How that the CM1 seems like a video dud can someone recommend a 4k phone for video with add-on lenses available? Now that I'm back in NYC I am constantly discovering things to shoot and want to make sure have the best phone since I don't like always having to carry a camera. Also, would a 4k phone need a telephoto lens or would zooming in (finishing in 1080) during post or using the digital zoom when filming work just as good?

This is a question I think may deserve its own thread. Understand if you move it Andrew. How is the in-camera a7 in-camera 1080 compare to post-processed 4k to 1080? Same for Panny GH4 and LX100, etc. Is a7 with externally recorded 4k end up as better 1080 than the camera, or is internal GH4 4k scaled down to 1080 end up as better 1080 than the a7 internal? Can you end up with better graded footage from a GH4 4K than a7 source 1080...etc. How important will an external 4k recorder be for the a7s?

Hello my friends, Here is my first hand's on with the SLR Magic 10mm T2.1 I just received on wednesday in premiere, and also with their new variable ND filter :) SLR Magic 10mm T2.1 on GH4 4K and 96fps 1080p mode My very first impressions : solid, heavy (420g), compact, sharp at full aperture T2.1, only 8.5cm minimum focus distance. The ND filter : good first impressions, and two great options on it : lever and hard stop ! Perfect for video ! SLR MAGIC 10mm T2.1 (f1.8 eq.), most of the clips @ T2.1 SLR Magic ND variable filter GH4 4K cinema mode + 96fps 1080p mode Vcine mode with Andrew Reid presets (http://www.eoshd.com) No color correction Music : Trentemøller « Come Undone (Trentemøller Remix) »

Testing out the new Metabones Speedbooster Canon EF -> m43. Really loving it, and working with Sigma ART lenses it just sings! I really want that shallow depth of field look, and it works a treat. Of course it's really hard to focus at F1, worse using a vari-ND filter too (vignette and darkening of the corners at the highest setting). Paired with the SLR Magic Anamorphot it has a great look!
