  1. Finally, the music clip I shot is out. Great decoration work and showing that the mighty 50D still has plenty of qualities. Shot with Canon 50D in raw, isco Ultrastar, Helios 44M, Jupiter-9 and Practika 135/2.8 Please share your thoughts

  3. So, as mentioned a few weeks back, I've just completed the first episode of a webseries shot with anamorphic lenses and MagicLantern raw. For this one, we used a LOMO Foton-A, and there's only ONE Iscorama shot. Episode 2 was almost entirely Isco, except for the very beginning. As soon as it's ready, it'll show up here too. Don't forget to enable the english subtitles, as all dialogues are in portuguese. :P

In the poll if you bought your 50D in a package deal, as best you can, estimate the portion that was due just to the Canon 50D body sans grips, lenses, flashes, etc.   I picked up a Canon 50D a couple of weeks ago for a little more than $350.  That was about the price I heard being kicked around months ago.   The question I have is was there ever a bubble post ML RAW announcement?  When I check eBay in the United States there seems to be a continuous unbroken stream of Canon 50Ds offered for sale.  Most of the body only sales can be had for $330-$430.   I also notice a lot of the 50Ds are sold with accessories.  The battery grip seems popular.  Rather puzzlingly kit lenses seem popular as well.  I always preferred to get the consumer line of cameras and use the money I saved to get primes and L glass.  It's strange to me that so many people opt for semi-pro bodies and things like battery grips and then skimp on the lens.   So is the lack of the predicted 50D bubble an indication of how niche video on DSLRs and particularly RAW on DSLRs is?

Hello EOSHD community, I am new to the DSLR RAW filmaking, and I've been introduced to this "new world" in a time of intense change and breakthroughs in terms of Hardware and Software to the movie making industry. I was used to film with the classic compressed DSLR, when I would press the button, it would record, than I get home, dumped the videos in PREMIERE and than export in whatever I wanted and... DONE! Now I bought the Canon 50D, because I was told that was a really amazing camera with great 14-BIT RAW video capabilities with this Firmware called MAGIC LANTERN... (and than, tragiclantern to get the raw) The thing is, I dont understand 10% of the options that come in the firmware, and the worst part is that I dont know how they are affecting the image!! Besides that, the workflow of getting all those files (thousands of pics) into 1(one) video, I didnt find the way. The MagicLantern forum on this issue is very confusing!! I lost myself reading that because is not very (or any) organized! I really would like to know if anyone can help me get to know the MAGICLANTERN firmware from bottom to top. Get full knowlodge of how it works and what single "spec" change affects what and combined changes affect  what... and so on! I really would love to get the camera and shoot, the best way possible, and, by now, I can't even set it right... If anyone can help me! I would be really thankfull!! I am really a noob   :(  Thank you all very much.  Looking forward to "dominate" the machine!!!!

Reading through the shoother guide book I notice Andrew refers to the ML 50D as a Super 35mm raw shooting cinema camera, and this confuse me a bit, I know that within the ML you can set the camera to do a 4:3 crop mimicking the crop of a 35mm film yeah but the relationship with the optics is still like a crop sensor camera right? I mean the sensor is not getting any bigger so you still suffer from not being able to use all the glass and so having to do the Focal Length multiplication. I also noticed Andrew recommends using 64gb cards but frankly I can't afford them right now so are 32gb cards still fine? I will be working with a PC close so I will be able to upload the data while working. Thanks in advance. PD: I decided to make a forum trend after mailing this to Andrew after noticing that he doesn't like to be asked this questions by mail so sorry for that!!

Just wanted to start a thread (sorry if it already exists) about Andrew's fantastic EOSHD 50D Raw Shooters guide.  I'm here to tell you that if you have a 50D, or the budget to buy one, I got mine to work in a couple of hours (bought it, with lens, for $500 on Craigslist).  And the workflow is surprisingly EASY!  (if you don't need the highest quality conversion).   First here's my first 50D Raw footage.  Everyone is so used to the video look they no longer realize how harsh it is.  Finally, I've shot video that have the natural film look!  I can't tell you how excited I am.   https://vimeo.com/72159787   First, I ignored all the high-end stuff Andrew covers and focused on the simplest workflow.  I got the impression from the manual that I'd have thousands of individual images.  Wrong, the output is a single name.RAW file.  Second, I figured I'd have to do multiple steps to convert that RAW file into something I could edit in Sony Vegas Studio.  Wrong.  I already have Go Pro Studio Fee.  After putting the Raw2GPCF in the right directory and configuring RAWanizer for it, I was able to convert the RAW file to Cineform 422 in maybe a minute.  It's really fast.  Lastly, I installed the Cineform codec and now the video plays in media player and I was able to edit it above in Vegas Studio.   On my own, it would have taken me a few solid days to get this thing going.  Many of the tools are buried in forums, which Andrew provides links to.     I also suspect that this workflow is easier on PC than Mac.     I was surprised at how many 50Ds were on Craigslist.  I get the impression that when Andrew wrote this manual he thought they'd fly out of the closets.  If he comes out with a second edition of his manual that focuses on the first time user (I'm a computer expert, so I understood his shorthand) I do believe he'll find himself with too many friends.   Finally, a lot of people seem unsure of RAW video.  I believe many reviewers focus on the second-most-important benefit, dynamic range.  The first benefit is skin color and tone.  We're so accustomed to the video look we don't realize how poorly the face displays in most video formats.  In the above video, it was dusk.  That IS HOW my wife looked.  There is no amount of editing, I believe, that could have converted the AVCHD video to look like it did in real life.  Again, just freakin amazing!

  12. Hi there   I'm thinking of getting a 50D, but I'm a bit worried that I don't have Adobe Photoshop/ACR, Lightroom or Premiere, which seem to figure heavily in people's workflows. Has anyone tried processing ML raw video outside of the Adobe ecosystem? Nothing against adobe, I just can't afford to invest in a different platform right now.   I have Aperture, FCPX, and DaVinci Resolve Lite. Anyone have any suggestions for what a non-adobe workflow might look like? I am going to be at a disadvantage compared to those in adobe-world? :-)    Andrew, does your 50D raw video book cover non-adobe workflows?   thanks

I could shoot for at least 4 minutes (I didn't try shooting longer). I did my color correction with Adobe Photoshop and converted to 2304 X 864 in Compressor.   Thank you

Hello all, i have been doing wildlife / birding photography for a few years now and i have always wanted to experiment with video and install magic lantern on my 5D II but have never gone ahead and done it, but i just picked up the 50D because of the possibilites of the raw video recording (and i needed to replace my old and beaten up 40D).    Anyways i really would love to get into film making, especially wildlife filming, but i don't know ANYTHING about the basics of filming.  I am wondering if there is a good guide anywhere out there.  I will be using the 5D II or 50D (preferably the 50D because i use the 5D II for photography jobs).     Also does anyone have any good videos of nature or wildlife videos?  I'm guessing landscape shots can make a popular subject, is anyone doing wildlife or birds?
