5dmkIII raw (converted to LOG-C and then rec709): Sony a7s (cine 4 - color, saturation and contrast dialed down -1, then gamma lowered and shadows raised a bit in FCP X): My thoughts are that the a7s can give you some nice skin tones and balanced color if you don't try to do S-LOG 2. I consider midday sun to be a challenging environment for 8-bit cameras, as the color can easily become washed out and desaturated. I find that I need as much saturation from the camera as possible (without clipping) before processing. Then I lower the gamma a bit in post and lift the shadows in order to give it more of a filmic shadow response. What you can't do with the a7s in my experience is extreme shadow recovery like this backlit shot:

Shot this earlier this week during the Feast of St Joan. I think it came out pretty cool.

I've been out in Dubai for commercial work, and in my spare time I used the 5dmkIII + raw to shoot a travelogue. Tried to capture some of the lesser-known parts of Dubai and the surrounding region. Enjoy!

Here's some vacation footage that I turned into a semi-narrative. My friend composed an original score.

My first few shots from my Dubai trip. Used the EOSHD 5D raw LUT in Resolve and it worked like a charm. I love how it lifts shadows without sacrificing black levels. I exported the clips from resolve with the LUT and then did additional grading on top of that in FCP X.

I'm traveling to NYC end of October. I'd like to see if there are any Anamorphic shooters in the city. I'm bringing my GH3 and 5DmkIII, be nice to get some Anamorphic shots of the city. Let me know thanks!

https://vimeo.com/77332920 This video is really three parts - lens test (taking and anamorphic), people in shots and atmosphere on location. BTW the set is for the TV show "Person of Interest". Sorry no music on this one.

Model Kyllie music video shot with Canon 5DmkIII RAW and Panasonic GH3. This is my first foray into shooting a music video with slow motion in mind. I also wanted to shoot with Anamorphic lenses and use a Steadicam for movement. Learned a lot from this shoot, I hope to make the next one much better. https://vimeo.com/72950991

Testing out my recently acquired lenses with my Canon 5DmkIII using RAW. The ability to record 3:2 as 1920x1280 is really great, but there is still a very limited ability to shoot wide with 2x Anamorphic lenses, in this case my Sankor 16D. I have a Panasonic LA7200, but it's only a 1.33x stretch and doesn't get me the nice oval bokehs and stretched OOF areas that I want. I really wish there was some kind of wide option using a 2x Anamorphic lens. I also tested 1920x1280 versus 1920x1080 to see the difference. https://vimeo.com/72941440 https://vimeo.com/72941441

I am curious on a few items regarding DSLR and mirrorless video making. The 5d MK III is amazing in low light but is said to be soft The GH3 is amazing in sub-800 ISO but is said to be to "home video" feeling for cinematic looks The resolution and image quality on this GH3 video is stunning: http://vimeo.com/63349774 But the cinematic feel and hollywood quality of this is equally stunning: http://vimeo.com/49269403 Anyway to get the GH3 to look as cinematic? I'm thinking not if most of, if not all, the videos on Vimeo don't show that? Also What about getting the 5D to sharpen like the GH3? Not possible? Seems like it's a trade off... GH3: great sharp image but lack of cinematic feeling and poor ISO performance in low light 5D3: great cinematic feel and ISO performance in low light but not as crystal clear as the GH3 Not sure where to go regarding purchase!

Arghhh! I'm getting some crazy red lines in different parts of the footage when shooting with a brand new 5d3. They tend to be in darker places but not confined to low light shooting. You get about 5/6 short red lines appear in a patch together and when you move the camera around, they stay with the subjet. I'll try and get some footage uploaded. Any ideas? Uploaded a clip: http://www.chrisdaviesphotography.com/Other/Videos/25378079_DKGgL7#!i=2087842556&k=6DcbD6T

I finally got some Anamorphic footage, rather than just tests. Here's my footage of EMKE Hawaii performing at Hard Rock Cafe Honolulu. I only have 2 anamorphics (waiting for #3) so the I faked it by making the 5dmkIII super shallow DOF. Not the best option, but it fits in just fine. Please enjoy!
